Draft Map of Tribes in the CA LCC
Draft Map of Tribes in the CA LCC The following is a draft map signifying the relationship between Ca LCC Eco-Regions and Tribal lands. The Burea of Indian Affairs “Indian Lands” dataset was used to develop this map. “Indian Lands” dataset (BIA Indian Lands) are difficult to correctly interpret. Bureau of Indian Affairs Frequently Asked Questions can aid in understanding. Generally, the Indian Lands data set utilizes the following labels: Federal Indian Reservation or Rancheria – an area of land reserved for a tribe or more than one tribe grouped together under treaty or other agreement with the United States Trust Lands – an area of land for which the federal government holds title on behalf of a tribe or tribes through a federal statute or administrative action as permanent tribal homelands. The Ca LCC Tribal Team recognizes that there are several other types of California Native American land holdings that are not represented in this map, including aboriginal territories, allotted lands, ancestral territories, and more. See Tribal and Indian Land for more information. This map should only be used for general guidance, but not for definitive identification of California Native American interests within Ca LCC EcoRegions.
