[ we believe ] ‘tis the season to.... • • • • • • celebrate give thanks laugh a lot indulge a little give peace a chance garnish your loved ones! IN SEPTEMBER WE CELEBRATED MY FATHER’S 70TH BIRTHDAY. (I’M GETTING OLD!!) The month was also packed to the brim with sports, back to school activities and settling into the post-summer groove. Needless to say, it’s a busy time here. I know you can relate! When my dad’s big day was less than a week away, I had yet to put together a gift. I wasn’t at a total loss, though. I knew what I wanted to do. As the days approached my head was swimming with ideas. Folding laundry would bring one bit of an idea; loading the dishwasher another. And then walking the aisles of my craft store brought the final inspiration and sealed the deal. You see, my dad was going to be in the South on his special day with his brother and some great friends. But the rest of our family would not be there to celebrate. So why not bring us to him. Heaven forbid I pop a picture in a frame and send it on its merry way. I mean, I had a brainwave! And when one hits (and let’s be honest, it ain’t that often!) you’ve got to go with it. It was going to be a hectic couple of days to get my project done in time to overnight ship but I guess that’s the way it goes when you wait until the last minute. I thought about abandoning the project and just sending a picture frame but come on, where’s the fun in that? WHERE AM I GOING WITH ALL THIS YOU ASK AND WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH OUR GARNISH WORKBOOK? Let me tell you a little something about that birthday gift I created. Yes, it took a little time. Yes, the dust bunnies nibbled a couple of extra days on my floors. Yes, I put the power of my dishwasher detergent to test from neglected dishes. But here’s the thing. He loved the surprise gift. Everyone at the party thought it was great fun having the rest of his family there. And I had a deliriously beyond giddy time putting it all together. It was far from perfect and let’s just say you could definitely tell it was homemade. I was laughing at myself for laughing at my creation. I know, I know, what can I say? I live on the corner of giddy and geek! OK. So Picasso I’m not. But a gift from the heart touches hearts, every time! And who doesn’t love heads on sticks? AND THIS IS MY POINT. THE HOLIDAYS DON’T NEED TO BE PERFECT. THEY JUST NEED TO BE JOYFUL. Don’t approach the season with a Pinterest obsession and resulting massive to-do list (hello... major buzz-kill!). Instead, try to focus on savoring all the little moments that remind you just what makes this life so wonderful. That’s my goal this year! And that’s the idea behind your Garnish Workbook. Little ideas with big impact. And of course Garnish has everything you need to get it done with ease and grace. From taking home leftovers in style to treating everyone on your nice list, our Workbook will help you breeze through the holiday season...and beyond. Because you know we think the everyday is just as deserving of a little Garnish as the holidays! HAVE FUN WITH IT. Enjoy the simplicity of Garnish. Enjoy the beauty of giving. And take it from one DIY-er to another... it’s okay if you don’t have the exact same font found in one of our inspiration shots. It’s okay if your strong suit is not label making. If you’re not a baker, you can still Garnish. Trust me, whatever you create is going to be its own world of fantastic and because you enjoyed putting together, it’s going to make an even better gift. I have the pleasure of working with Michelle at A Girl Named Fred and stylist / photographer Catherine Choquette to put this Workbook together. If left to my own devices, my ideas might be a little more along the lines of heads on sticks. But you know what? Heads on sticks are awesome. And your ideas will be, too. When adding a little Garnish, there is no perfect...just perfectly you. All the best to you and yours this holiday season, and into 2013. We’ll see you right back here in the Spring with the next issue of Garnish! PS. In the spirit of easy, we’ve hyper- Suzanne linked our products, external links and recipes in blue.
