inground pool or a hot tub, they
all take on a new life at night when
they are accented by artificial lighting. Popular
lighting systems include transparent fiberoptic cable which adds a soft, attractive accent
around the perimeter of a swimming pool
or hot tub. When installed as ‘end lighting’,
it fully illuminates a pool or hot tub
underwater, creating colourful lighting effects
with a revolving colour wheel that sets the
mood in the backyard to suit any occasion.
Fiber-optics can also be used to add
colour to water as it cascades down from a
water feature into the pool or spa below, or
to outline the edges of walkways and steps.
LED (light-emitting diode) lighting
combines red, green and blue LEDs to
create a vast spectrum of colours
underwater – from standard solid colours
to subtle shades, hues and tones of popular
colours. You can even create your own
colours and change the cycle they appear in
to fit the mood in the backyard – from fast,
flashing strobe-like colour changes for a

longer than standard incandescent fixtures

install a permanent lighting system in their
pool, there are new battery-powered light
fixtures that float on the surface of the water
to illuminate the water underneath. Just turn
them on and toss them in the pool. Designed
to last for years of normal pool use, floating
pool lights won’t yellow from sunlight or
swimming pool chemicals and do not have
any sharp or abrasive edges – so they won’t
damage swimming pool liners.
