Thank you in your interest in letting us prepare your personal sheet music. This guide has been created to inform you on all of the possibilities that we have to offer so your sheet music is presented the way you want it. We understand that it’s hard to think of all the choices you actually have when getting a score prepared. By outlining all of these options, we hope it makes your experience with us easier in deciding exactly how you want your score to appear. We promise to give you the best looking score regardless of what style you choose, so go on and have fun personalizing it! I. Page Setup and Formatting Margins By default, page margins are set at 10mm (.39 inches) on the left, right and top. The bottom margin is 20mm (.78 inches). They can always be adjusted to suit your needs at the time you review your score setup. A special scenario may be if you wanted scales or exercises printed out from a lesson you may be teaching or attending, and you wanted space out to the side for comments or notes: Figure 1. Music exercise with wide margin for notes © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 Page 2 Page Numbering The page numbering of your score can be shown in a variety of ways. Unless otherwise specified, we will not put a page number on a single page piece of music. For scores with more than one page, we will still omit the number on the first page, but we will number the remaining pages on the lower outside corner (lower left for even pages, lower right for odd). This would be as if you were presenting the printed score as a booklet with odd pages on the front and even pages on the back. See below. Figure 2. Default Page Numbering for Multi-Page Scores © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 Page 3 You may decide on a more personal page numbering scheme, like all pages, bottom center or top right. You may be creating a songbook of some of your recorded or handwritten music and you want the page numbering to be continuous from piece to piece (i.e. the third piece of the book starting on page seven). Whatever you decide, we’ll make sure the pages are numbered to your liking. Page Size The default page size is letter (8-1/2 X 11 in.), but you may choose from any page size. We can format our scores to fit any size, custom or standard. From small marching scores (7 X 5-1/2 in.) to conductor size (A3, B4); anything in between or outside. The standard sizes are listed below: Size Letter Tabloid (Ledger) Legal Executive Statement Comm10E DLE Folio A0 A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8 A9 A10 B0 B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6 B7 B8 B9 B10 Width (in.) Score Preferences This section deals with how you would like the actual music in the score to appear. This also includes any text within the music as well as titles, subtitles, movement labels, composers, lyricists, etc. Score Styles There are two basic score styles used when creating our sheet music, standard and jazz. Unless otherwise indicated, the standard style will be used. The difference between the standard and jazz styles is best explained by showing the differences. The jazz score style has more of a handwritten quality to it. See the examples below. Figure 3. Standard Style (Default) Figure 4. Jazz Style Choose whichever style you want to use. Just let us now if you want the jazz style for your music, otherwise… standard it is! © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 Page 5 Measure Numbering There are a lot of possibilities when numbering measures. You may not like them at all, you may want them on every measure, or something in between. By default, Notes 2 Paper numbers the first measure of each system, omitting the first measure as shown in the example below. You may want them at different intervals (like every eight or sixteen bars). Any regular interval is possible for numbering measures. Figure 5. Score showing measure numbering at the beginning of each system. Fonts Standard Notation Notes 2 Paper can use different fonts for your titles, subtitles and authors. We can even make the text within the score (lyrics, chord symbols, dynamic and articulatory text) a different font if you desire. © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 Page 6 The default font for the standard score style is FreeSerif: For the jazz score style, the MuseJazz font is used: If you wish to have a font other than the default fonts in your score, simply indicate what you want modified and the font desired (i.e. subtitle Brittanic Bold) and submit your request to contact@notes2paper.com or indicate it when you submit your order on the website. You may use any of the fonts in Microsoft Office -- or choose one of the examples below: Algerian Bauhaus 93 Blackadder Elephant Forte Freestyle Script Bakersville Old Face Bernard MT Condensed Brittanic Bold Broadway Brush Script MT Castellar Chiller Colonna MT Georgia Gigi Impact Jokerman Kunstler Script Kunstler Script Lucida Console Lucida Hand Magneto Matura MT Modern No. 20 Comic Sans MS Curlz Mistral Old English Text Papyrus Playhill Ravie Rockwell Showcard Gothic Snap ITC Stencil Viner Hand ITC Vivaldi Vladimir Script Vladimir Script Wide Latin Song Lyric Sheets For lyric sheets with no music (just chord symbols), the default font is Times New Roman. However, any MS Office font or one from the above list can be chosen. © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 Page 7 Header and Footer Specifics Not only can you change the fonts on your title, but you may also design it so it’s thematic to your music. For example, you can have an artistic title such as the example below that may contain an image. If you would like an image on your score, simply send it with your other audio and/or scanned files when you request your order and explain how you would like it placed. Figure 6. Artistic Title For your footer, we can put any copyright information about your music if it’s available and you want it on there. It can be justified left, center or right and placed either on the first page only or all pages. By default, Notes 2 Paper places a footer at the bottom of each piece of music we transcribe, engrave or otherwise edit that reads “Notes 2 Paper.” It will appear below the copyright information and/or above the page numbering as applicable. If you wish for this to not be on your music, let us know. © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 Page 8 Title Page You can always put a title page on your score or songbook. A table of contents can be added to show where songs or movements start also. Even if we don’t transcribe the music, we can create a professional looking score for you on any page size. Figure 7. Score with Title Page III. Score Ideas So far we have shown you some of the common formatting and score style choices that you have for your sheet music. But it really doesn’t end there. We all want our music to look nice and professional, easy to read and accurate, but creativity is boundless and with that, here are a few extra things to think about that may not be thought of at first but can be done using sheet music. Novelties You don’t have to use your music to perform or learn from. Maybe you want a song that you have written or just like and you want to frame the sheet music and hang it up. It really doesn’t matter what you use the music for… if you have a recording or something handwritten we can reproduce it accurately and exactly the way you want it to appear! Maybe you make doll carolers and you want them holding tiny pieces of sheet music in their hands. We can custom size any music for you! Let your mind get creative and remember you can always rely on Notes 2 Paper for any sheet music you or a friend may need. Nothing is impossible! © 2016 Notes 2 Paper Sheet Music & Transcription Service N2P_Style, Revision 1 IV.
