Yellow Creek Coating Services. Yellow Creek Coating Services is completing construction on its new industrial building to serve the metal coating needs of
the Mid-South metals cluster. John Paulk has been
selected as the plant manager. We thank CEO Don
Hall for selecting Tishomingo County for his latest
project and we thank Yellow Creek Port Authority for
partnering with Yellow Creek Coating Services.
Running with Scizzors. Runnin’ with Scizzors Salon
has relocated to 248 Highway 72 West in Burnsville.
Running with Scizzors Salon is open Monday thru Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM. The

2013 Government Procurement Opportunities Conference. The Mississippi Development
Authority is sponsoring a trade show to help
small businesses build relationships with federal,
state, and local governments and corporate procurement agents. The event is scheduled for

Tourism Impact Report. The Mississippi Development Authority has issued the 2012 Travel & Tourism Economic Contribution Report. The report reveals that tourism spending in
Tishomingo County in 2012 increased by 7.5% over 2011. The
report also reveals that the north Mississippi counties with tourism resources such as lakes, parks, and other attractions are
spending significant funds to market their tourism resources,
with the exception of Tishomingo County.

Manufacturing jobs will continue to decrease over time due to automation and lean manufacturing. Tourism promotion is important to the future of the citizens of Tishomingo
County because it brings in outside dollars, grows existing businesses, and leads to the
creation of new businesses and new jobs. Locally owned small businesses are important
because they:
Generate wealth that stays in the community;
Are more likely to invest money in local schools, churches, and social organizations;
By example, encourage others to start or expand small businesses;
Are more likely to purchase goods and services from local sources;
Generate sales and real estate taxes for local governments which, in turn, are used
to provide public infrastructure and services;
Are more likely to create jobs for local residents; and
Are more likely to work to improve community appearance.
The number one weakness of the Tishomingo County economy is the paucity of locallyowned small businesses.
Tourism jobs are sometimes criticized because many of those jobs are low skill, low wage
jobs. However, tourism creates more spending at local businesses and creates opportunities for citizens to create new small businesses. Further, any job is better than no job,
and low skill, low wage tourism related jobs are often the first jobs held by young people
and unskilled workers who, with experience and training, can become qualified for higher
paying jobs. Tishomingo County is fortunate in that tourism resources are distributed in
all parts of the county, north and south. With marketing comparable to other northeast
Mississippi counties, there is no reason that the number of tourism jobs in Tishomingo
County could not exceed those created by NASA and Belmont Homes combined.
Contract Fabricators, Inc. CFI recently shipped a large pressure vessel. The vessel is
27 feet in diameter and 117 feet long. The 650,000 pound pressure vessel could not be
shipped by rail or road so it was loaded onto a barge for shipment to an oil refinery in Illinois.
CFI is one of the few companies in the USA that can handle very large pressure vessels,

Dennen Steel. Chris Austin has been selected as the
plant manager for the new Dennen Steel operation in
Tishomingo County. We congratulate Chris and thank
Dennen Steel for selecting Tishomingo County for their
first southern USA site. More information on Dennen

Rail Spur. Yellow Creek Port has begun construction
on a rail spur to the Northeast Mississippi Waterfront Industrial Park at Burnsville. The rail spur and other development are pivotal to the future of this industrial park
because industrial prospects expect a ready-to-build-on
site with access roads, utilities, and transportation infrastructure in place. We thank Eugene Bishop and
the port authority board of directors for their visionary
leadership.
Burnsville Industrial Building. Tishomingo County has
been awarded a $20,000 matching grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority to renovate the manufacturing space
at the former New River Homes Building in Burnsville.
District 2 Supervisor Nicky McRae has completed an environmental assessment of the property and has renovated the offices and grounds. The Burnsville Industrial
Building is 88,150 SF with ceiling height up to 31 feet.

businesses and individuals

Tishomingo State Park. In partnership with the Natchez Trace Parkway, Tishomingo State Park hosted
two AmeriCorps groups as they received training in
Wildland Fire Control. During their stay the 23 students assisted in rehabiliation of six miles of hiking
trails at Tishomingo State Park. Tishomingo State
Park has received numerous national awards and is
rated by Mississippi Magazine as the Best Hiking
Destination in Mississippi.
