The program is conducted and planned by YMCA staff who are trained to meet the needs of children and provide positive adult models. It is not baby-sitting, but a quality child care program designed with the working family in mind. Swimming, ice skating, games, snacks and fun. This is a NY State licensed program, limited spaces available. Busing is provided to school in the morning and from school to the Y in the afternoon. Breakfast is served in the morning and snacks are served in the afternoon. During school delays, our SACC program will remain open until pick up time if school is delayed, There is no additional charge for this service. The Skaneateles Y provides care during school closings, half days and snow days at an additional charge. Children participate in structured, supervised activities such as swimming, ice skating, games and more… This program is licensed by NY State and as such has limited spaces available. Registration forms must be completed prior to attendance. You may place a deposit on your Skaneateles Y account to cover the cost of last minute snow day surprises, then just give us a call the day of to register! The class focuses on age appropriate skills, large motor development, songs, games, crafts, fun, fitness and kindergarten readiness! Our dynamic, caring teachers bring their passion for working with the young child to our program, which encourages growth and development of each child. Classes focus on age appropriate skills, large motor development, songs, games and crafts. There will be fun, fitness and emphasis on kindergarten readiness in a nurturing and safe environment! Our dynamic and caring teachers bring their passion for working with young children to our programs. We believe children learn best through play and we strive to offer varied activities on a daily basis, including enrichment such as learn to swim, learn to skate, dance, music and art. Teachers are trained in CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention. Different levels of ability, development and learning styles are expected, accepted and used to design appropriate experiences. Choose between morning and afternoon sessions with two, three and five day a week programs. Program will run in the SCS Middle School Wrestling Room. Sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday nights. K-3rd Grade 4th-6th Grade 5:30 – 6:00 pm 6:00 – 7:00 pm Wrestlers are coached by several former high school and collegiate champions who support youth wrestling. The program is scheduled to have several matches with other programs and an end of season tournament. Cost is $40. Parental participation is welcome. Your Y membership allows you use more than 70% of NYS YMCAs NEW SKANEATELES Y DANCE TEAM Grades 6-12 Wednesday 3:30-4:30pm 3 Sessions: January 7-February 11 February 25-April 1 April 15-May 20 Our team will be led by Susan Benjamin. Sue worked for 7 years as a coach and choreographer for the Marcellus Gymnastic Team. Sue choreographed dance routines for the team to perform during its competitions. The Dance team will learn basic jazz and acro style numbers based on popular music selected by the team members. The team will seek to perform at local Skaneateles events. FEES: Skaneateles/ Auburn Y members $80 per session General Public: $115 per session LEGO™ BUILD Ages 6-8 years January 5-9 4-5pm Imaginations soar as children create and build simple and complex structures in this Lego™ class. Building with blocks or Legos™ develops fine motor skills as well as spatial reasoning and awareness of proportions and patterns. Kids just know they love Legos™ and are having fun! FEES: Skaneateles / Auburn Y Members: $90 General Public: $110 LEGO™ CREATE Ages: 8-11 years January 5-9 5:15-6:15pm Participants will explore pre- engineering concepts with creativity during this class which focuses on more advanced Lego™ building. There will be daily building challenges and exploration of building topics. Participants will take their Lego™ sets home! WATER AEROBICS Schedules available at the Member Services desk and online at www.auburnymca.org/skaneateles Deep Water Fitness: Tone and strengthen your core and increase your energy level using float belts and barbells. Shallow Water Fitness: Wash away your stress and rejuvenate your spirit while you tone and condition your body. This course allows for partial weight bearing exercises that protect your joints while allowing efficient calorie burning. Water Fit: Increase your mobility and balance as well as toning your body with low impact exercise. Great for anyone with arthritis. Aqua Fit Total Body: This is a full body shallow water workout. Jump in and work on cardiovascular strength while incorporating resistance training components. This work out is appropriate for all fitness levels! Aqua Zumba Known as the Zumba “pool party ! Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. Aqua shoes recommended! SPRINGBOARD DIVING Min. 9yrs old. Adults welcome. Session I: February 16-20 Session 2: April 6-10 Monday- Friday Beginner Class: 11:00am -12:00pm Intermediate Class: 12:00pm -1:00pm Learn or perfect your springboard diving skills. Participants must be a minimum Level 4 or Minnow 1 swimmer. Intermediate divers are those who have participated in a minimum of 1 year of competitive diving. FEES: Skaneateles/Auburn Y members: $45 per session General Public: $90 per session SPRINGBOARD DIVING PRACTICE SESSIONS Dates: Jan 15-Feb 26 (No class Feb 19 Thursdays; Beginner 7-8pm Thursdays; Advanced 8-9pm For ages 9 and up (adults are welcome) Must be at least a level 4 swimmer Coach: Katie Rozak FEES: Skaneateles/ Auburn Y Members:$50 General Public: $50 Non-Members $100 STINGRAYS SWIM TEAM Ages 5-18+ The Auburn Y Stingrays is one of the most competitive programs in NYS. Team is open to swimmers who can swim one length of the pool using the crawl stroke utilizing rotary breathing. Participants must be a Minnow 1/ Level 4 swimmer. Swimmers can compete through high school and even into college during the summer. Practices are held 2 to 6 times per week depending on age and level of commitment. Fall session meets Sept. – Feb. and summer session meets April-August For swimmers qualifying for state the season extends to mid March and if qualifying for nationals, the season extends into April. Refund Policy: Should you decide to cancel enrollment in the program, we will refund the cost of the session only if it is more than two weeks in advance of the start of the session. If it is within two weeks, a credit will be applied to your account. If you cancel once the class begins, no refund or credit is issued and you will absorb the full cost of the session. The course cannot be pro-rated or changed to accommodate scheduling conflicts on the student’s end. FEES:$335 per session ARC Lifeguarding Recertification and Waterfront Class 16 years and older Session I: January 5 & 6 8:30am -4:30pm Sesion II: March 14 & 15 9:00am -3:30pm ARC re-certifications must be completed within 30 days of your previous certification’s expiration. Challenges are no longer accepted as a recertification process. PLEASE NOTE: This class is subject to the same pretest outlined in the ARC Waterfront lifeguard class above, and is subject to the same refund policies as listed above. If the student does not qualify for the class, they will be refunded the class fee minus a $50 testing fee. Includes conscious and unconscious choking victims Part II: First Aid, Epi Pen and Aspirin Administration Accidental injuries, including choking and drowning, are the leading cause of death in children and send over 16 million children a year to the emergency room. Don’t let your child be a part of this statistic. Take the easy steps to prepare yourself for an emergency. The first four minutes preceding an accident are crucial in determining how your child’s brain is affected. Learn what to do to take action and respond appropriately until EMS arrives. Accidents can happen to anyone. Participants must pass the pre-test described below. The course includes the Fundamentals of Instructor Training program and books. Pre-test: Front crawl - 25 yards Back Crawl - 25 yards Breaststroke - 25 yards Elementary Backstroke - 25 yards Sidestroke - 25 yards Butterfly - 25 yards Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling). Tread water for one minute If the student does not qualify for the class, they will be refunded the class fee minus a $50 testing fee. FEE: $345 SCUBA 14 years and older New classes start Session I: January 21-February 25 Session II: March 11 - April 15 Session III: April 29 -June 3 The YMCA/SSI SCUBA course consists of 1 1/2 hours in both the classroom and the pool each evening, plus four open water dives. Certified instructor Henry MacDonald brings extensive knowledge and certification at all levels of SCUBA diving. This is a 6- week class. Come give it a try Session I: January 14 Session II: March 4 Session III: April 22 MASTERS SWIMMING Masters are swimmers who may or may not be members of USMS (United States Masters Swimming) who get together for a fantastic workout! You must be at least 18 years old to participate and capable of swimming a minimum of 2,000 yards, with advanced swimmers covering 3,500 yards or more. The yardage is broken up into different sets with rest intervals in between. This program is beneficial for tri- athletes, former competitive swimmers, former collegiate swimmers as well as fitness swimmers. A coach is present and practices are geared toward a variety of different levels and abilities. This Combo class will sculpt muscles and elongate the appearance of your body.
