Social networking, social scientists and media experts have increased
our networking potential regardless of distance. Users of social
network platform are overall connected to a larger pool of new
information and opinion. Not just urban users but social media
today has equal importance for rural citizens. And this can be
substantiated by the fact that usage of social media in rural areas has
grown by 100 per cent over the last one year — with 25 million users
in rural India.
These and many such reasons make up for the introduction of our
new tie up with GLBrain, which is a social networking platform but
different from existing social networking sites. GLBrain is the
missing link - connecting user with content and vice versa. You
should definitely read this issues’ Cover Story to know how SahajGLBrain tie up is set to connect rural users globally.
We’ve dedicated our Feature section to the earthquake that shook
Nepal this April. The Feature takes you to the science of earthquake
and also offers you a list of major earthquakes around the world,
including the Nepal earthquake. The Sahajites Corner is
enlightening piece that focuses on the changing dynamics of the
Internet of Things. You should surely not miss the encouraging
story of one of our entrepreneur Mr. K Manivanna.
Beyond this, we bring to you effective tips for maintaining your
health and hair this monsoon. Turn over the pages to check what’s in
store for you in the coming month in the Horoscope section.

Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe that, only a decade ago, social media was little more than a budding trend. It has had
a disruptive effect on our lives and everything around us in the years that ensued. Today they say that
if Facebook were a country and all its users its citizens, it would be the 3rd most populous country in
the world. That is the sheer number of takers social media has found. Today, as the user has evolved,
the value expectation out of social media platforms has increased many folds too. Today people are
not happy with just a platform to express and comment but need more from them.
Our association with GLBrain stemmed from the fact that they have, as a social network, understood
the need to bridge the gap between quality content and human reach. They also have a well segregated
approach to differentiate between the informal and the business or knowledge sections. To top it all, they
have extremely user friendly navigation. Overall, we felt that it is the right vehicle to introduce the joys of social
networking to our more than 28,000 Rural Entrepreneurs. I am not contesting the fact that some of our entrepreneurs are already
on other popular social networks, but they are slowly warming up to GLBrain too mainly because of the edge it provides.
There are numerous plans for the future with GLBrain. There are developments underway even as you read this. With more and
more rural consumers accessing data over mobile, the concern over connectivity is slowly yet certainly being addressed. Recent
reports suggest that the number of social media users in Rural India has increased by over 100% in the last one year alone. These
are encouraging trends and the developments we intend to introduce over the GLBrain platform are certain to start trends. We
shall keep you posted on the same.
There is a lot more happening at Sahaj. You may want to subscribe to our weekly and monthly newsletters to know more. The
monsoons have set in. Though it has brought respite from the blazing summers, it is the time when most water borne diseases
spread. Do stay safe and take good care of those around you.

- Rural India’s very own
social networking platform

S
ahaj e-Village Limited, a Srei Initiative has tied up
with internationally acclaimed GL Brain (Global
Brain). GLBrain is a new type of social network,
offering all major functionalities of other networks. GLBrain
intends to unite all people sharing our values, to communicate
and exchange their ideas so to better cope with their daily lifes
and business and to make this world a better place.
It is a new internet community building and social networking
platform that can be used to connect people with people,
businesses with businesses, customers with businesses,
customers with customers and more. GL Brain uses internet
in a new concept that's private, anonymous, focusing
sustainability, social responsibility and creating civic value.
The basic idea was derived from the following
knowledge of how today's social networks are
structured:
The big social networks, have attracted a huge user base,
offering communication based services, creating user profiles
by watching and storing their behavior and interest. This
profile data combined with a totally identified user is sold and
built the basis of their business model.
Content based webpages and networks, focus on
sustainability, social responsibility and civic values. They want
to spread their ideas but lack the user base to do so.
GLBrain is a missing link. It uses the internet to form a
Global Brain and make change happen. For doing this, it
intends to develop a platform for attracting a big user base by
offering all well known functions of social networks but
based on principles of privacy and data control by our users.
On such basis GLBrain offers new functionalities and a new
business model allowing and helping users to follow core
values of sustainability, social responsibility and creating civic
value.
Sahaj uses the GL Brain platform to not just connect with its
employees across the six States of Assam, Bihar, Odisha,
Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal where it is
operative, but will also utilize the platform to connect to its
Entrepreneurs and end Customers who too will be able to
register themselves on this unique platform. The platform
will also be utilized by Sahaj Product Groups to showcase
their services and offerings both across States and to their
Entrepreneurs/ customers. Sahaj Entrepreneurs can utilize
the platform to showcase services offered at their Common
Service Centers. Sahaj hopes to see an increase in revenue
through the purchase of Professional Profiles and other
services on GL Brain which will be sold by its entrepreneurs
across the six States it is operative in through their well
connected Common Service Centers.
GLBrain promises a visible advantage over other social
networking platforms. It not only allows one to connect, but
also create content and share the same across a whole array of
online platforms, follow content and authors, register as
individuals or organizations, create advertisements, become
searchable and be found on Google maps as a business. They
are programmed to register members from 230 countries and
already have around 9,000 articles created by the users. The
site gets one million page views on an average from 80
countries per month. Harnessing the unparalleled reach of
Sahaj in the villages of India, this association is expected to
bring more people from the rural markets into the fold of
internet usage and social networking, apart from opening
new avenues of networking for local businesses.
GLBrain is the all in one platform for content, profile
and communication.
Content
Content is available on a global and local levels for every
country, and is structured in three brains with twelve
categories each. Create, read or follow opinions
(GLOpinions LOpinions), related articles, votings
(GLOVO) or movements (GLOMO). Share, post, comment,
join, participate or follow.
MyBrain
It is your personal inbox and administration level in GLBrain.
Administrate your content, the content and authors you
follow, your community, and all services you purchase on
GLBrain. Receive notifications about new content from
followed authors or results from movements or votings you
joined. Here you also exchange messages with your friends.
MyLife
The mobile and tablet based communication level of
GLBrain offering functions like posting, mailing, friends and
many more. Chatting, sharing, commenting liking and further
direct links to GLBrain soon to come. All based on our
principles of total privacy and data control by the user,
making MyLife a real alternative to other social networks.

The basic idea to create GLBrain has been
derived from the perception, that todays
internet and social networks are not made
for building communities and exchanging
valuable content within such communities.
They are based solely on peoples
connections, sharing messages and posts. GLBrain offers
all needed community and content building
functionalities and is moreover open to share all this
within all other social networks. The fact that it is
programmed on a statistical basis and formula, allows the
user complete privacy. This way GLBrain targets to
become a widely used Internet platform especially
allowing the countless organizations and interest groups
around the globe to cover their community building and
content sharing needs, and hence establish itslef as the
missing link between their communities and the other
social networks.

How
The Changing Internet of Things
Will Affect Marketing
T
he Internet of Things is changing. To know the Internet

changes that we are experiencing?
You would agree that the rate at which internet penetration is
rising, the Internet of Things (IoT) will practically be almost
everywhere by 2025. Everyone is vying for a piece of the pie.
Facebook has recently announced its foray into IoT with
software development kits for its Parse mobile app
development platform that will now allow settings for
monitoring of home alarms, security cameras, smart locks,
thermostats, and the like to be saved on the cloud. With
everything from health trackers to audio systems and smoke
alarms to air conditioners connected to the internet and
creating endless possibilities, we are entering an era of truly
web-connected lives. As per a Pew survey, Experts have even
predicted that by 2025 internet will become like electricity invisible but affecting all lives.
Forget monitors for babies, today there are in-collar devices for
dogs that keep them active and healthy. One can even attach
food dispensers to these devices that would monitor and
control the size of their meal portions. Clover has come up
with coffee machines that let you brew your coffee through
your phone even before you have stepped out of your bed. We
are already seeing TVCs in India that show how mobile phones
turn into remote controllers for a popular brand of ACs. The
Belkin WeMo Light Switch app lets you schedule and control
the lights at your home via a smartphone even when you are
away. Tesla has an electric car that lets you control interior
temperature, start or stop charging, and locate it using an app.
These apart we already know of the commoner ones like the
doctor-on-call apps, health monitors, home security vigilance,
Sahaj Setu • June’15 • Page 11
etc. The long and short of it is that the Internet of Things is
growing more feathers by the day and most definitely affecting the
world around us.
Now the examples above may look slightly ahead of our times, but
there already are early adopters and soon we would get used to
them like we did to mobile phones. Let’s get down to how it affects
marketing. Some thought would make it evident that the
advancements in IoT make lead generation and exchange of sales
data quick and easy. Imagine the efficiency a marketer would be
able to bring into his/her system once there actually are the
projected 75 billion connected devices in the world by 2020. CRM
would get smarter as it gets simpler to predict by consumer
behavior history that is all available over the internet. One would
always know when devices and apps of their consumers are due
for obsolescence and can pitch upgrades to them at the right time.
There are other advantages too that are derived out of being able
to tag a behavior pattern and his/her consumption history to a
customer.
Can the changing dynamics of IoT be of use to Rural Marketers
too? I personally feel it is just a matter of time. According to a
recent report, usage of social media in rural India has grown by
100 percent during the last one year with 25 million users residing
in that belt. This has evidently been catalyzed by the rise in mobile
penetration and mobile data usage in rural areas. 61% of the users
access social media on their mobile devices. The social media
footprints of a consumer are indicative of his/her preferences
and lays the ground for predictive marketing. Though a tad early to
go in all guns blazing, I feel that the first movers will always have
an advantage and this is the right time to start testing the waters.
The Internet of Things is fast emerging as a disruptive force
affecting all aspects of business and we should be happy as long as
enriches lives as well as business processes around us. All hail the
power of the internet!

the name suggests, sunburns are caused due to the skin’s exposure
to the sun. Exposure to the sun means exposing the skin to harmful ultra
violet rays of the sun. Excessive exposure to sunlight can damage the
skin and may result in premature aging. If however, your skin has
developed sunburns, you need not worry. Follow skin care routine to
get rid of sunburns. Sunburn treatment at home can be followed with
the use of simple things readily available in your home.

sunburn treatment:
Dip a few drops of vinegar in cold water. Now take a clean cotton
cloth and soak it into the water. Now put the cotton cloth on your
face with your eyes closed. After five to ten
minutes,
soak the cloth again and put it on other
parts
of body affected by sunburns. Doing this,
will immediately give you relief from
sunburns.
When you go for bathing, add a few drops
of rose water to a bucket of cold water.
Take a refreshing bath with this and you'll
notice a drastic improvement. This
treatment should especially be carried out

Story
Understanding
EarthQuake
R
ecently Nepal witnessed one of history’s worst earthquakes
which claimed over 8000 lives and destroyed many
historical sites. Sure, we all know about earthquakes - how and
when does it occur, let’s enhance our knowledge and have a look
on all major facts on earthquake.
Let’s begin with what it is an earthquake?
An earthquake is what happens when two blocks of the earth
suddenly slip past one another. The surface where they slip is called
the fault or fault plane. The location below the earth’s surface where
the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter, and the location
directly above it on the surface of the earth is called the epicenter.
What causes earthquakes and where do they happen?
The earth has four major layers: the inner core, outer core, mantle
and crust. The crust and the top of the mantle make up a thin skin
on the surface of our planet. But this skin is not all in one piece – it
is made up of many pieces
like a puzzle covering the
surface of the earth. Not
only that, but these puzzle
pieces keep slowly moving
around, sliding past one
another and bumping into
each other. We call these
puzzle pieces tectonic
plates, and the edges of
the plates are called the
Sahaj Setu • June’15 • Page 16
plate boundaries. The plate boundaries are made up of many
faults, and most of the earthquakes around the world occur
on these faults. Since the edges of the plates are rough, they
get stuck while the rest of the plate keeps moving. Finally,
when the plate has moved far enough, the edges unstick on
one of the faults and there is an earthquake.
Did you know why does the earth shake when there is an
earthquake?
When the edges of faults are stuck together, and the rest of
the block is moving, the energy that would normally cause the
blocks to slide past one another is being stored up. When the
force of the moving blocks finally overcomes the friction of
the jagged edges of the fault and it unsticks, all that stored up
energy is released. The energy radiates outward from the fault
in all directions in the form of seismic waves like ripples on a
pond. The seismic waves shake the earth as they move
through it, and when the waves reach the earth’s surface, they
shake the ground and anything on it, like our houses and us!
Now let’s understand Tectonics. In 1900s scientists
discovered a deep trench beneath the Atlantic Ocean where
molten rock from inside the earth welled up and then cooled
in the ocean waters, creating new rock. This led them to an
observation: If the earth is creating new seafloor, old seafloor
must be disappearing, or the earth would grow. So what's
happening? The answer is that the new seafloor is being
created at the edge of a tectonic plate. The plate's opposite
edge is moving away from the new seafloor, diving under the
plate it is bumping up against in a process called subduction.
Researchers recognized this as an engine that could move
continents. Most seismic action arises not from diverging
plates, but from plates of the earth striking each other. These
collisions create land features like mountains and volcanoes,
and unleash the forces of earthquakes and tsunamis.
Many of us wonder if scientists can predict earthquakes. The
fact is scientists cannot predict earthquakes. Although
scientists have tried different ways and process but they have
never been successful. All that scientists can understand is
that there are fault lines where earthquake will occur, but they
cannot say when it will occur.
There are cases of worst earthquakes in history that have
claimed countless lives and billions of dollars worth of
property damage. Here we share the worst earthquakes in the
world, both in the number of deaths and magnitude, from the
recent Nepal Earthquake to the one that struck Valdivia, Chil.
(The list is in no particular order)
Between Kathmandu & Pokhara, Nepal
A 7.8 magnitude
earthquake struck Nepal
in an area between
Kathmandu and the city
of Pokhara on April 25,
2015. Its epicenter was
east of the district of
Lamjung, and its
hypocenter was at a depth of approximately 15 km (9.3
mi).It was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the
1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake. The earthquake claimed the
lives of more than 8,600 people while injuring more than
twice as many. The devastating quake also destroyed major
monuments such as the Dharahara tower, temples and world
heritage sites near Kathmandu.Thousands of houses were
destroyed across many districts of the country, with entire
villages flattened, especially those near the epicenter.
Valdivia, Chile
The World’s largest
earthquake with an
instrumentally
documented magnitude
occurred on May 22,
1960 near Valdivia, in
southern Chile. It was
assigned a magnitude of 9.5 by the United States Geological
Survey. It is referred to as the "Great Chilean Earthquake"
and the "1960 Valdivia Earthquake". The United States
Geological Survey reports this event as the "largest
earthquake of the 20th Century". The Chilean government
estimated that about 2,000,000 people were left homeless.
Shensi, China
With a magnitude of about 8M, this earthquake claimed lives
of about 8,30,000 people. The earthquake occurred on Jan.
23, 1556 in the Shaanxi province (formerly Shensi), China,
about 50 miles east-northeast of Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi.
Damage extended as far away as about 270 miles northeast of
the epicenter, with reports as far as Liuyang in Hunan, more
than 500 miles away.
Sahaj Setu • June’15 • Page 17
Tangshan, China
A magnitude 7.5 struck
Tangshan on July 27, 1976.
Official casualty figure is
255,000 deaths. Estimated
death toll as high as 655,000.
Damage extended as far as
Beijing. This is probably the
greatest death toll from an
earthquake in the last four centuries, and the second greatest
in recorded history.
Sumatra, Indonesia
On December 26, 2004 a 9.1
magnitude earthquake
occurred in Sumatra,
Indonesia. This was the third
largest earthquake in the world
since 1900 and the largest
since the 1964 Prince William
Sound, Alaska temblor. In total, 227,898 people were killed or
were missing and presumed dead and about 1.7 million
people were displaced by the earthquake and subsequent
tsunami in 14 countries in South Asia and East Africa.
Bhuj, Gujarat, India
An earthquake measuring 7.7 on
the Richter scale hit Bhuj,
Gujarat on 26 January 2001. The
earthquake killed around 20,000
people, injured another 167,000
and destroyed nearly 400,000
homes.21 out of 25 districts in
the state were totally destroyed and Kutch was the worst
affected district, followed by Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Rajkot
and Surendranagar.
Kanto, Japan
This earthquake brought
extreme destruction in the
Tokyo-Yokohama area,
both from the temblor and
subsequent firestor ms,
which burned about
381,000 of the more than
694,000 houses that were
partially or completely destroyed. The earthquake occurred
on Sept. 1, 1923 having a magnitude as 7.9 m and resulted in
142,800 deaths.
Port-au-Prince, Haiti
The Haiti earthquake was a
magnitude 7.0 on the Richter
scale, with an epicenter near
Leogane, 25 km west of its
capital, Port-au-Prince. It
struck on January 12, 2010
where at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater could
still be felt even 12 days later. The earthquake left a
devastating wake of 316,000 deaths, 300,000 injured and
1,000,000 people homeless.

July Horoscope
Aries (March 21-April 20):
With the Sun in home-loving Cancer and Venus in
romantic Leo until after mid month, it should be
an emotional and enjoyable time. But there will
be ups and downs, high points of fun and other
times of challenges and tension. Certain family
members may be irritable or argumentative and you
may also be pushing too hard, trying to get everything in
ship shape order. Try to lighten up and let it wash over you. Have a
heart to heart chat with those closest when you can get everyone
calmed down. The New Moon on the 16th is a hint to wipe the slate
clean, let bygones and be bygones.
Taurus (April 21-May 21):
Rushing round and increasingly busy and frantic
schedule you may well run the risk of tripping
over your feet or putting your foot in your
mouth. You'll get irritated by delays and other
people's mistakes and not be backward about
voicing your opinions. Luckily there will be
moments of blissful contentment at home and
with the family. You'll be indulged and pampered
and keen to see what you can do to spread harmony
around. You may even consider sprucing up the decoration to give
you an ambience of elegance and beauty around. Just have a care
towards mid month since challenging influences could make you
accident prone or overly stressed. Thereafter there'll be party
invitations galore, chances to have fun and a reasonably quiet final
week with those close.
Gemini (May 23-June 20):
Your wonderful way with words, charm and wit
will bring you popularity and smooth round a
few rough edges early on. You'll want pleasure
and be tempted by all manner of extravagant
frivolities. Just remember you also want more
security, so put in the leg work to improve your
finances. After mid month home will be happier,
more settled so you'll get the chance to snuggle
down with those close and relax more often. Close
partners may want to be serious around the 21st so be prepared to
sit down for practical discussions. Lots of variety, choice and
constant movement will keep you happily on your toes after the
23rd. Just don't over react when unexpected events threaten to send
you off balance.
Cancer (June 21-July 20):
Your birthday Sun always puts you on a
high. Just play it cool and let it all wash over
you. You'll be spending money happily,
finding all manner of irresistible treats
around. There'll be sudden changes of
direction at work and you won't always be in a
mood to co-operate. Try to go your own way and
not get too distracted. After mid month you'll find affectionate
gestures from everyday mates at work and in the neighbourhood
will make you feel loved and wanted. You'll be saying all the right
things as well, so tempers should ease. Getting your personal
finances together will be your priority in the final week though you
won't stop yourself spending at the same time.
Sahaj Setu • June’15 • Page 21
Leo (July 21-Aug. 22):
Romantic Venus and confident Jupiter,
together in your sign as the month opens,
should make for a light-hearted time with
plenty of compliments coming your way. You
may feel more on the sidelines than usual, but
taking time out to reflect on recent events and
get yourself prepared for a more outgoing
phase towards the month's end, won't do you
any harm. Let others do the running around. You will feel frustrated at
points but this is only temporary. Pull strings and get others doing what you
can't at the moment. Your energy won't be limitless so pull back from overheavy commitments. Buy yourself treats after mid month will put the
sparkle back in your eye. Then from the 23rd your birthday Sun will buck
you up and send you out on exuberant form.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22):
You'll be forging ahead with long term plans and
find plenty of support amongst friends and team
mates. OK at times you may find certain
companions a touch too pushy and you'll be fairly
possessive of loved ones or the spotlight. Just try
to compromise along the way and keep the peace
as best you can. You won't be as sociable or
romantic as usual for three weeks and you won't find
it as difficult to be a giver rather than a taker most of
the time with loved ones. Have a care with money since there will be sudden
surprises which may throw your budget off track. After the 18th you'll be
showered with compliments and invitations.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22):
In a high profile position now at work and also
socially, you'll be making waves and making
your presence felt. OK you'll have to work
hard to ensure the right people are aware of
what you can do. But it'll be worth it. You'll be
taking the lead and insisting others follow
behind you. Try not to come across as bossy.
Not everyone will be as motivated as you are.
There will be distractions at home with a situation
where you feel challenged but are unclear what the best coping strategy will
be. Just take it slowly. Be firm and flexible. Try not to flare up and fly off the
handle.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21):
You'll have the bit between your teeth and be
keen to bring more adventure into your life.
You'll be thinking big, aiming high and talking
enthusiastically. OK so you won't always be too
practical or sensible. But your high spirits and
confidence will be infectious so you'll swing
those close along with your plans. You'd prefer to
travel if you can. But if not you'll broaden your
horizons some other way. You'll also be invited to the
rather social occasions and be putting on a sparkling
performance, charming all the right people. There will be
some tensions in your everyday life at work or in the neighbourhood. Try
not to respond by getting overly intense or too stubborn.
Contd...
(Nov. 22-Dec. 20):
There will be too much going on behind the
scenes for your liking. Normally an outgoing,
adventurous and directly-spoken sign you
dislike being immersed in secrets and
situations where you have to move slowly.
But needs must. Confidential matters will
require persistence and compromise. You'll find
later on you are grateful for the efforts you make
now. Where money is concerned you'll have to push extra hard to improve
your situation. It won't all go the way you had planned and there'll be a few
surprise detours along the way. But if you hold your nerve, you'll emerge in
better shape.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 20):
You'll want and be offered the support of
close partners. But you'll find them quite
heated at times and you won't always
appreciate being expected to fit in with
their plans. So it may be tricky to stay
amiable and flexible through a few tense
moments in the first two weeks. Try not to
over react to what will be passing
moments. You've been round this circuit
before and know you can find ways of
defusing difficult discussions when you try. You
will be keeping your feelings strictly to yourself.
/sahajevillageltd
Aquarius (Jan. 21-Feb. 18):
One close partner will be affectionate
and good for your morale, leaving you
feeling warm and wonderful inside.
But there's no doubt that you're going
to be over worked and landed with too
many chores for a few weeks. You'll
need to boost your stamina as best you
can and try to delegate where possible.
You'll be a perfectionist and stuck on the
idea that only you can do certain jobs well.
Try to ease up and let others share the strain. Luckily your sense
of humour will keep you bubbling early on.
Pisces
(Feb. 18-March 20):
Outgoing, sociable, playful and in a
mood for romance and
entertainment, you'll be out in the
spotlight enjoying yourself. This is
your time to let your inner sparkle
shine and indeed to let your inner
child out to play. At times you may come
across as slightly too forceful with loved ones since
you're in such a high-energy phase. They may not necessarily
want to live at your pace. One friendship will also be going
through a testing time. Try not to get pulled into wrangles.
