Our Mission The mission of Open Door Animal Sanctuary is to provide homeless cats and dogs with the highest quality of life and a second chance to find a forever family. • • • • • We are a “no kill” animal sanctuary; we do not euthanize cats and dogs for space. We provide dedicated love and care to over 400 homeless cats and dogs. This includes 100 kisses a day, 365 days a year! We provide our residents with a largely cage free living environment. We reduce pet over-population by offering a low-cost spay-neuter program and a humane education program to the community. We operate a pet food pantry to provide support to families in need. Since our founding in 1975, we have offered hope, help and healing to more than 100,000 precious lives. Our Vision The vision of Open Door Animal Sanctuary is to offer a loving environment and eventual home for every cat and dog in need of our help. pg. 2 To Remember the Animals... You can make a lasting memorial to a humane cause by making a bequest to The Open Door Animal Sanctuary in your Will. Such bequests are tax deductible for estate tax purposes. Suggested form of Bequest: I give and bequeth to the Open Door Animal Sanctuary the sum of $____ dollars (or, if insurance policies or their property, please describe). To assure that your kind intentions are carried out in accordance with your wishes, please be sure to use our full corporate title: “The Open Door Animal Sanctuary.” The Sanctuary was founded in 1975 as a no-kill shelter for injured, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats. We are a private, non-profit charity, supported by people who care about animals. For further information, please contact Tracie Quackenbush at 636-671-5439. Open Door held its 11th Annual “Brighten the Days of our Strays” on August 23rd, 2015, raising nearly $40,000 for the general operating fund. Nearly 200 guests enjoyed a good time with friends new and old, helping Open Door celebrate 40 years of saving lives. The event’s success this year was due in the largest part to the event committee Chaired by Cathy McCredie and included members Marti Stricker, Sherry Wood, Barbara Buschart, Kristina Kozlowski, Julian Jacquin, and Tim Morgan. The group worked hard to plan and promote the event and to assemble our best selection and quantity of silent auction items to date which included food and beverage gift certificates, themed baskets, jewelry, pet items, electronics and sports tickets. The auction portion of the event alone raised $9,726. Guests not only had fun perusing and bidding on the auction, but also enjoyed delicious signature drinks, the Cat’s Paw and the Tail of the Dog, and had the chance to kiss some adorable Open Door kittens at the Kitten Kissing Booth! Open Door Board President, Rebecca Leinenbach, presented an inspiring slide show which highlighted Open Door’s mission moments from the last year and presented information on the Reaching New Heights Capital Campaign plans for shelter renovations the Campaign will fund. Then, our very own Executive Director, Tracie Quackenbush was presented the Don Nichols Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her 15 years of service to Open Door and her dedication to animals! The presentation was followed by Open Door Ambassador Brook Dubman’s role as “auctioneer” to call for donations for the Capital Campaign which raised an additional $15,000 for this special fund. We would also like to recognize and thank our event sponsors who provided $10,000 in sponsorships to the event. Sponsors included our “Best in Group” $2,500 Sponsors, Carol House Furniture and Ceva pharmaceuticals; and our “Best in Breed” $1,000 Sponsor, Moneta Group; our $500 Kennel Club Sponsors, The Gogel Law Firm, Foxfield Financial, 4-Legged Kids, Merial, Benz Press Werks and Dr. John Wood in honor of his wife Sherry Wood. Also, VIP table sponsor Sandy Perkins sponsored a $1,000 VIP table for members of Open Door’s Auxiliary who do so much for Open Door throughout the year. Thank you to all who volunteered at our event, attended the event, and made donations toward the event. We hope you enjoyed the evening! pg. 3 Annabelle Are you in search of a great cuddler? Look no further than ANNABELLE. This 4 year old is playfull and super loving. She gets along well with other dogs and loves kids. After you take her for a long walk, which she adores, she's the kind of girl that would love to lay on the couch watching movies. Come on in and meet with Annabelle. Marley Do you have a soft spot for cats that need a little understanding? MARLEY is a wonderfully sweet, 5 year old boy that just so happens to be deaf. He's a little shy but incredibly affectionate. This boy loves to be held and petted and he sure does love a lap to sit in. You might have to go a little slower with this guy, but once he trusts you, you'll have a snuggle partner for life. Daphne You won't believe this lady is 9 years old. DAPHNE is definitely an oldie but a goodie. She has no idea that she's a senior citizen, and we don't tell her either. Always on the move, this one plays like a pup. She loves dogs and people of all shapes and sizes. This is probably one of the happiest dogs you're ever going to meet! Deli Are you looking for a little kitty take out? Come and see DELI! This little girl is a wild child that needs to be an only kitty. Deli is a player that loves to run, play, and just have a grand ol' time. She doesn't need any help to entertain her, she makes her own party. Once this girl gets wound up, all you can do is watch her go. Come join this girl's party! Tucker Are you looking for a cool dog? They really don't get any cooler than TUCKER. This 1 1/2 year old loves to play, go for walks, and play some more. This guy sure is a head turner when he's strutting down the street, he'd make a great wingman! Tucker thinks cats are pretty funny and gets along great with them, he's a little unsure about other dogs at times though. Tucker is waiting to become your best friend! pg. 4 Pandora Kay Who doesn't want a beauty queen living with them? PANDORA KAY definitely fits that bill. This 2 year old lady knows she's gorgeous and really doesn't have time for anyone who thinks otherwise. A bit of a diva, she prefers to lounge all day soaking up the rays from a windowsill. Affectionate and charming, Pandora Kay is sure to wriggle her way into your heart. Thumper Are you a stay at home dog parent? THUMPER had a pretty rough start in life and needs a little TLC. This sweetheart of a 2 year old wants nothing more than to cuddle with his family and spend all his time with them. Thumper loves other dogs, gets along with cats, and plays with children. If you've got a spot on your couch and in your heart, this guy would love to fill it. Paul PAUL is a giant senior that is just waiting for a home. This guy is laid back and really likes to hang out watching the world go by. Paul can be a real sweetheart and adores being petted. If you're looking for an active cat...Paul may not turn your head. However, if you want a cat to snuggle up with and watch movies, we've got your man. Ruffles RUFFLES is a happy go lucky girl that's always on the go. This 3 year old loves to play with all kinds of toys, she’s awesome at the game Fetch! She might be kind of picky with her dog friends, but she loves people of all ages! If you have a yard that needs to be shown some good play time, Ruffles would be very happy to fill the need. Andre If you're looking for a cat that's got a neat personality, you need to check out ANDRE! This boy is not even a year old and he is a big one, his full name is Andre the Giant! He is full of energy and loves to play, he loves to chase toys and the other cats. Some might call him a little ornery, but he's just full of life. Overall, this is one cool cat that you need to get to know. pg. 5 Our New Director of Development PLEASE JOIN US AT... Contact: carrie@odas.org Friday December 4, 2015 from 5:30PM-9:00PM ! Open Door Animal Sanctuary has been participating in this festival for 25 years and every year just keeps getting better. 2015 was blessed with perfect weather and NO rain (we have been rained on 18 out of the 25 yrs!). We had a record year in sales, our raffle baskets were the hit of the festival and although we didn’t adopt as many animals as we would have liked, the dogs enjoyed a day where they were the focus of attention. Many thanks to all our volunteers and the Greentree committee for continually making Open Door a part of the Kirkwood family… pg. 8
