Message from the President
Mary Ann Brooks
The consortium’s membership drive has continued throughout the spring and
into the summer. We currently have over 65 enrolled members. I credit the
increase in numbers to our board members and our committees who have
generated interest and involvement over the last year. The benefits of our
collaboration with the Bucks County Workforce Investment Board have
become well known in and out of the county.
Moving forward into the new fiscal year, it appears that the consortium will
again have the opportunity to partner with this group for training grant funds.
More will be shared at our next general meeting. In the meantime, please
review the summary flyer regarding the past year’s program which is included
in this newsletter and has also been posted to the website.
Over the last several months the consortium has utilized the services of a
virtual assistant, Michelle Murphy, and her team, to complete various
administrative tasks. In addition, the website has been updated and modified
to include an area for member announcements. We are constantly working
on efforts to improve our organization and to enhance the communication
with each other and the community at large.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many members who supported
the 5th annual William J. Neff Symposium. Our attendance and
overwhelming response to the gift basket collection was very much
appreciated.
Over the last 10 years, our collective commitment to the long term industry
has become well recognized. As a result, the consortium’s members have had
more requests for participation in county and community events such as
disaster preparedness. I will continue to explore options of growth,
recognition, and resources. I appreciate the feedback from all members as to
the direction and benefits of being part of the Bucks County Long Term Care
Consortium. Member involvement and communication is the essence of our
success.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Long Term Care Industry Partnership
Training Program Summary
for Program Year
2007-2008
In the past year, The Bucks County Long Term
Care Consortium was fortunate to obtain a grant
for staff training through a collaboration with
Bucks County Workforce Investment Board. Financial contributions from the State of Pennsylvania supplemented the cost of training for employees in the long term care industry. The Consortium will continue to seek out and participate
in future opportunities such as this for the benefit
of our membership.
The training emphasis was in four
major categories:
•

Types of training utilized
Most companies chose to utilize outside vendors with training done on-site. A small percentage had in-house training
provided by their own staff. A very small amount of grant
applications were received for on-line training. In addition,
the Consortium utilized grant monies to contribute to two
group C.E.U. events in the community: The William J. Neff
Sr. Symposium and Competence with Compassion™ training through C.A.R.I.E. (Center for Advocacy for The Rights
And Interests of The Elderly).
Acknowledgements
Thank you to Elizabeth Walsh, Executive Director of Bucks
County Workforce Investment Board, and to the members
of The Bucks County Long Term Care Consortium’s Communication and Education committee, for the development

Grant Close Out Report
On July 14, 2008, the Consortium submitted a grant close out report to the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development, detailing expenditures
for the $5000.00 grant monies received in December 2005.
The purpose of the requested funding was to create and maintain a website for our
organization to promote the Consortium and its mission. We used the funds to develop the
initial graphics and layout, research domain names, update our logo, and maintain and
update the website on a regular basis. The website, www.bucksltc.org, is being used to notify
members of upcoming events, meetings and general membership information. The quarterly
newsletters are posted on the website, as well as a list of current members, news and events,
committees, and al blog to share information.
To express our appreciation for the generosity of the Department of Community and
Economic Development, a thank you letter was sent to Mr. Richard Guinan, Operations and
Compliance Director, on behalf of the Consortium.
