Training simulation for DAU Uses elements of role playing and pervasive or Alternate Reality Gaming User replies with their answer. If additional tries allowed If more problems available Uses common technologies: email, phone calls, SMS Students interact with in-simulation characters System responds to user that they are correct and flags for delivery of next question/problem. To accommodate small, asynchronous groups most elements are pre-produced and delivered through automated system Correct If no more problems available System evaluates the response. System gives good or bad scenario wrap-up and simulation ends. Incorrect System responds that user is incorrect and either allows x number of extra tries, or switches to failure path. If no other tries allowed or tries are exhausted 63 64 DAU Card Sim TeamTeam-Based Simulation Game This game is designed to teach acquisition management skills in a team setting In order to successfully complete this game, a team must: CASSANDRACASSANDRA-Card Sim The DAU card game simulation allows up to six players to navigate their way through the defense acquisition process, encountering and overcoming obstacles along the way. Players will be arranged around a table with the card game in the center. Obtain the required solution set within a given number of rounds Apply relevant task knowledge Work as a team A failure to do any three of these will result in failure for the scenario Session 406 – Tools to Mobilize your Learning – David Metcalf, University of Central Florida/ RWD Technologies Page 11 March 11 - 13, 2009 Orlando, FL Online and Mobile Phase IIII- Card Sim Virtual Worlds Integration The online Flash component of the card game simulation will allow players from various DAU sites to participate in a real-time multiplayer game. Each player will have a laptop and control his or her cards through the Flash user-interface. Communication between sites for player interaction and instructor moderation might be accomplished through VoIP or by utilizing video conferencing equipment in a high-tech simulation facility. mLearning Service Innovations Integrating Web and Mobile Scenarios into Virtual Worlds New devices and form factors Touchscreen, pen-basedLiveScribe, Animation/Interactive Flash, Silverlight Mobile, Brew, J2ME, SVG, 3D Multimedia Messaging Cameraphone LifeBlog- Nokia Collaboration GroupVine, Twitter, JOOPz, Dodgeball (Google), Find My Friends, ImaHima (Japan), Socialtext, Soziety eBooks Kindle- 60,000 units/mo, Sony eBook 70 mLearning Service Innovations (cont’ (cont’d) Future Goals and Needs Podcasting Mobile access to audio content Continued integration of emerging technologies that go beyond Web 2.0 (mobile, VW, Games/Sims, Collab/KM) to advanced concepts and tools in augmented cognition, telepresence, and other disciplines Partners with similar vision and big goals to achieve significant results moBlogging/Wiki access Mobile blogging, vlogging and audio blogging Mobile data capture Barcoding, Mobile Image recognition, OCR text reader Interesting projects that are big enough to have impact International partnerships that meet the broad goals of UCF Location-based Services GPS, Geotagging, Geocaching, Geofencing Mobile Virtual Worlds Resource strategies for people, funding, and tools that can create a sustainable, large innovation factory Comverse- Second Life Mobile and Big Worlds AU Transcoders Spin-off multiple commercial entities and help launch/fund startup activities for students, faculty and our staff automation of mobile content conversion- CSS, (L)CMSs 71 Session 406 – Tools to Mobilize your Learning – David Metcalf, University of Central Florida/ RWD Technologies Page 12 March 11 - 13, 2009 Orlando, FL Answers to these 10 questions will get you started: Recommendations Look for opportunities Focus on user’s context and needs Build content in modular formats Assess readiness Begin with pilot initiatives Follow the market and be ready to move 1.
