April-2016 Newsletter - PTSD Foundation of America
April 2016 The Ripple Effect In This Issue Many of you reading this are familiar with the statistic that we are losing 22 veterans a day in America to suicide, according to the VA. Additionally, you have some understanding of the "ripple effect" from such horrific loss. All in all, it is beyond devastating to families and friends. For a moment, let's think about the "ripple effect" of saving one life. A mother's endless heartache is spared. A father and son have the opportunity to be restored. A child has a hero to hold their hand, not just a flag to place on a shelf. We all can agree whatever the cost, saving the life of our veterans is worth the sacrifice. At Camp Hope, with the help of many volunteers, supporters and encouragers, we have been able to see many lives saved and radically changed. While we cannot remove post-traumatic stress from anyone's life, we can help them find a new purpose and build a meaningful and happy future. As they work on developing their future, we work on assisting them with some very basic needs. For some of our veterans, they embark on a new career while others head off to school to prepare for a career. Often, a trustworthy vehicle is a great need and obstacle in achieving their next step. Over these past few years, we have been fortunate to receive automobiles from a number of individuals. Most of these have required only minor mechanical fixes, then we have been blessed to give those automobiles to veterans as they transition out of our program and move forward to whatever is next for them. Would you consider donating your vehicle?
