The natives are indigenous people to the United States. They lived throughout the country for centuries before the arrival of Europeans. Methods of Hunting and Farming • Entire group worked together to tend crops in large fields owned and worked in common. • To clear land they used a system called “slash and burn” • Each family also had their own little plots for their family food. • Mainly hunted deer because of abundance and usefulness for things other than food. • Hunted with bow and arrow, but sometimes used fires to drive big animals into a small area where they could be killed V.
