CST DESIGN STUDIO™ (CST DS): a versatile tool that facilitates 3D EM/circuit co-simulation, system simulation and synthesis. 2 The license setup CST STUDIO SUITE represents a highly modular concept in which each STUDIO product covers a certain frequency or application range. All CST STUDIO SUITE solvers are seamlessly integrated into a common interface. A license can be configured to the needs of each customer by making choices about the following parameters: - Number or Frontends, Simulation Processes, Solver Modules Number of Acceleration Tokens Import and Export Options Multiplatform Upgrade (Windows / Linux) Network Type (LAN, WAN, Node-Locked) Perpetual or Limited Term license CST STUDIO SUITE – Graphical User Interface 3 1) Number of Frontends, Simulation Processes, and Solver Modules The frontend provides a user with the ability to build or import a new model, define the solver settings and display results including post processing. The number of simulation processes specifies the maximum number of simulation runs that can be performed at a time. The number of solver modules specifies how many of each solver module can be used at a time, as long as the total number of simulations does not exceed the total number of simulation processes. Example 1: A customer has chosen the following configuration: - Frontends: 3 - Max. simulation processes: 2 - Max. 2 T (Time Domain) - Max. 1 F (Frequency Domain) Result: Up to three frontends can be opened, but only two of these frontends can launch a simulation. These simulation runs can be either two time domain simulations or one time domain simulation and one frequency domain simulation. Multi-window functionality: Users can use the tabs within the graphical user interface to seamlessly switch between an unlimited number of projects, regardless of the associated product, while consuming only one frontend. Frontend blocked during simulation: When a simulation is launched on a tab, the tab stays active and the associated frontend is blocked until the simulation is completed. If a further frontend license is available, a user can switch to another tab and continue working without having to open a second design environment. A minimal CST STUDIO SUITE configuration by default always comprises two frontends and one solver process. 4 Product Solver Module Icon CST MWS Time Domain T CST MWS Frequency Domain F CST MWS Eigenmode E CST MWS Integral Equation I CST MWS Asymptotic A CST MWS Multilayer M CST MWS Filter Designer (2D) FD2D CST CS Cable Harness CBL CST PCBS Printed Circuit Board PCB CST PCBS Rule Check RCK CST EMS Static S CST EMS Low Frequency LF CST PS Tracking TRK CST PS Wakefield WAK CST PS Particle-in-Cell PIC CST MPS Thermal TH CST MPS Structural Mechanics SM CST DS Circuit Simulator DS Solver module options and related charge * The DS solver module (CST DESIGN STUDIO) is always included free of charge. As the circuit solver module DS is always included at no charge, it is possible to run DS in place of one of the purchased solver modules. 5 2) Acceleration Token The ability to solve complex structures or a large number of designs quickly can be increased by a variety of solver specific features such as Distributed Computing (DC), Cluster Computing (MPI) or Hardware Acceleration (GPU). Customers can access all CST acceleration features through Acceleration Tokens without limiting themselves from the beginning to a specific feature. The Acceleration Tokens can also be shared amongst all users/processes of the same license. Option Explanation DC-Para[x] DC-Excit[x] DC-Freq[x] MPI[x] GPU[x] CPU Allows simulation of up to x different parameter setups at a time (default=1) Allows simulation of up to x different port excitations at a time (default=2) Allows simulation of up to x different frequency samples at a time (default=2) cluster computing (MPI) on up to x nodes (default=1) exploiting up to x GPU units (default=0) up to 48 threads on a Multi CPU board (already included free of charge) Acceleration Options Overview Cluster for MPI and/or DC GPU Computing Unit Multi CPU The number of required tokens for a single feature is specified in the first column of the table below, e.g. MPI for 8 nodes requires 3 Acceleration Tokens (MPI[8]). It is also possible to combine several features by checking-out the corresponding number of tokens for each feature as shown in the example below. 6 Acceleration Token DC-Para DC-Excit DC-Freq MPI GPU 0 1 2 2 1 2 8 8 2 1 2 4 16 16 4 2 3 6 32 32 8 4 4 10 64 64 16 8 5 14 96 96 32 16 6 18 128 128 48 32 7 22 160 160 64 48 8 26 192 192 80 64 9 30 224 224 96 80 10 34 256 256 112 96 Acceleration Token charge valid for one computing session. Features with charge “0” are included in all licenses by default. Red/pink shaded boxes indicate that this acceleration feature can run uncombined with any other acceleration feature. Grey shaded boxes mean that acceleration features must be combined to reach the number (e.g. to make use of 16 GPUs one could combine 8 GPUs on 2 DC-Para. No DC-Excit/DC-Freq charge if only one port/frequency per model is simulated at a time. Important Notes: - For technical reasons, any combination of DC and MPI is not yet supported. - If GPU computing is enabled, token consumption is as if all nodes are equipped with the same hardware accelerator device. Potential differences in the hardware setup are not considered and not recommended. Example 3: How many Acceleration Tokens are required for a simulation including two parameters and two ports per model on a GPU cluster (single GPU per node)? Two simultaneous parameter simulations (DC-Para[2]) with two ports each to be simulated in parallel (DC-Excit[2*2]) on a computer. Each cluster node is equipped with a single GPU (GPU[2*2*1]). After the feature is released by a user, there is a 30 minute wait time before that feature is available for another user. 4) Multiplatform Add-on Customers running simulations in a pure Linux environment (e.g. a computer cluster running the Linux operating system, controlled by a queuing system) are free to complete their license with a multiplatform upgrade. Please note that configurations with a CST frontend/GUI running on Windows but simulations started remotely using either MPI or DC don't require this option. Only if the CST frontend is running on Linux the multiplatform is needed. 5) Network Type (LAN, WAN, NL) A Local Area Network license (LAN) is the standard choice for working groups with more than one user. Having a network license, a group or division of a company may install the license on a server and on an unlimited number of clients which all belong to a local area network, provided that the LAN does not extend beyond a single building or group of buildings, and in no event encompasses a geographic area greater than one square mile. A FLEXLM license server will be installed in order to ensure that the allowed usage in terms of frontend, processes, modules etc. is not exceeded. Licenses that permit use beyond a LAN are also available and are called Wide Area Network (WAN) licenses. The uplift factor depends on the number of sites or size of the region for which the usage should be extended. The area or sites for the WAN must be defined on quote and invoice. For use by only one user, the Node-Locked (NL) license is an economical alternative. A node-locked license restricts the access to a single computer. Terminal server access is not allowed or possible. 9 6) Maintenance and Updates The standard license includes one year’s maintenance and support. It can be renewed on a yearly basis at 16% (subject to change) of the then current list price before the expiration of maintenance and at 20% for any backdated maintenance. Interruptions are not allowed. Maintenance has to be ordered for the complete license, it cannot just cover parts of it. CST STUDIO SUITE supports various operation systems. For details please refer to http://updates.cst.com/downloads/CST-OS-Support.pdf Warranty/support is limited to model sizes - Up to 200 Million mesh cells for Cartesian grids - Up to 2 Million second order mesh cells for tetrahedral grids - Up to 64 GBytes memory Typically a major release of CST STUDIO SUITE is delivered once a year. In-between, service packs with bug fixes are regularly made available and installed without further interaction by the user in the background, if the automatic update manager is enabled. 10
