Students in the Keene Junior High UIL One-Act
Play was performed in the district contest on
December 11 at Glen Rose High School. The play,
"Clara's on the Curtains" (by Arthur Lovelace and
published by Samuel French Inc.) is about a fated
performance where the star has laryngitis, her
costume is too small for the diva to replace her,
the concession lady is upset about not enough help,
and the pianist breaks her wrist. Student actresses
are Donica Morelik, Haley Bruce, Jeannshy Erazo,
Lauren Habenicht, Alexia Franco-Reyna, Janice
Castro, Gabriele Gonzalez, Mikayla Alik, Yarelis
Rivera-Lebron, and Saira Correa. Crew members
are Vincent Talladino, Penny Strickland, and Belle
Kruzon. Director Irene Dennison Herr says that
the ensemble work of these girls is difficult and
amazing.

AR Fundraiser Reward Party
Keene Junior High conducted a
fundraiser for out AR program back in
September. Some of our students sold
eight items which qualified them for the
“Party” in the gym which was held on
November 14th. Students could play
basketball, a Minute-to-Win-it game, jump
rope, volleyball, or play on two different
bounce houses, all while listening to
music. A fun time was had by all!
We really appreciate these
students and all their hard work to help
raise money. For students who did not
participate in the fall fundraiser, they will
have another chance in the spring to raise
money so they will be eligible to go to Six
Flags with us in May. So students, don’t
give up on getting your AR goals!!

Veterans Day
On November 10, 2014, Keene JH attended a presentation in honor
of Veterans Day. This year’s theme was WWII in the Pacific Theater
of Operations.
High School Students wore uniforms and carried original weapons
representing the following:
USMC during the Battle of Wake Island
US Army during the Battle of Bataan
Us Army Nurse during the Siege of Corregidor
US Navy during the Battle of Midway
USMC during the Battle of Guadalcanal
USMC during the Battle of Tarawa
USMC during the battle of Iwo Jima
and
US Army Air Force, 20th AF, representing
the bombing attacks on Japan.
A brief history of the battle of the Pacific Theater was presented.
The presenters were Kip Bassett and Rick Brockman.

Keene Junior High band
received first place for their
float in the Keene Christmas
parade.
On December 10th the KJH 8th grade band
and 6th grade music ensemble performed for
parents and friends. It was a night to
remember as music filled the auditorium.
This was the first 8th grade band concert in
KJH history. I am sure students, parents, and
teachers alike were proud of this truly
remarkable event. The 6th grade class was
privileged to perform both vocally and
instrumentally. American Folk Songs was the
6th grade theme for the evening. It made me
proud to be a part of such a rich and vibrant
heritage. All of the students put forth
countless hours of preparation and practice
for this one evening of music. I would like to
thank all of the students, parents, and staff
for all of their help and support of KJH Fine
Arts. Make sure to mark your calendars for
our Spring Concert 2015!
