SHOEI has launched a revolutionary new helmet that sets brand new active and passive safety
benchmarks.
Intensive preparatory work has been carried out with CAD programs, in the laboratory and in
the SHOEI wind tunnel, plus extensive road tests which has resulted in a helmet with an
absolutely innovative design;
Brand new visor mechanism
This ensures the helmet's perfect fit, and it is entirely draft-free thanks to the visor's "suction
seal" concept. The visor system also provides a broader field of vision and features a modified
and enlarged Pinlock® visor.

Entirely redesigned ventilation system
It incorporates a negative pressure system with a special extraction technology to guarantee
the effective and continuous discharge of warm air, even at very low speeds. Adjustable inlet
vents on the chin (with defroster), on the brow (2 vents) and on the back (4 outlet vents) make
optimum climate control child's play. A special ventilation duct layout minimises ventilation
noise.

1. Concept of XR-1100
We targeted innovative new generation full-face
helmet design in development of the XR-1100.
Our aim was to provide a passion by creating a
refined style and, at the same time, offer superior performance and rider comfort.
Through SHOEI’S safety concept system,
design and performance, safety is paramount
throughout, and is supported by SHOEI’s high
quality control procedures. The XR-1100, not
just a simple successor of XR-1000, has
progressed to a premium sports touring helmet,
a benchmark leading a new generation of
full-face helmets.

2. Design of XR-1100
While there are many kinds of values expected
by the rider, we believe that expectation and
excitement for riding obtained by wearing a
helmet are affected largely by its design.
In the XR-1100, with its concept of “stylish
& emotional”, we have achieved a high quality
design which provides passion to the rider, for
all riding styles. A distinctive sculpted design
from the chin bar portion of the shell to the rear
integrated spoiler creates a feeling of speed. All
ventilation parts are integrated into the shell to
create a stylish product.
The totally new shell incorporates the top outlets and spoiler to maximise ventilation performance. This further improvement in aerodynamics has contributed to reducing drag and lift during high speed riding.
A newly designed Tail Fin 3 is integrated into the bottom beading to
create a smooth air stream at the bottom of the shell.

3. Evolution of the Visor
A visor is a very important component of a helmet. A newly designed visor is applied to XR-1100 to
provide the rider with high practical performance. For a detailed explanation of the new visor
system please refer to the text of CW-1 visor.
CW-1 Visor, a New Visor, and Q.R.S.A. System
SHOEI prevents infiltration of rainwater by close contact of the visor and helmet seal, through
applying a variable axis in the visor base, thus maintaining a one touch visor removal/fixing system
favoured by many users. Air stream around the face inside the visor is decreased and noise reduction is improved.
Noise reduction is minimised by the newly
designed window beading, which runs along the
visor’s edge to eliminate the gap between the
visor and the shell. In addition to improvement of
close contact of the visor, this restrains noise level
around the visor and contributes to reduced noise
levels.
Advanced Pinlock Fog-free System
The larger Pinlock insert ensures a fog-free
clearer peripheral vision with the CW-1 visor.

4. Improvement of Ventilation Performance
A newly designed ventilation mechanism is
equipped to ensure a comfortable environment
for all riding styles.
Upper Air Intake
A newly designed upper air intake is strategically
placed to maximise air flow at different riding
positions.
Lower Air Intake
The enlarged air absorbing hole of the lower air
intake, combined with the widened exhaust
hole (1.32 times compared with former model),
vastly reduces visor fogging and contributes to
comfortable riding.
For ease of maintenance the new lower air intake
system can be replaced without removal of the
mask liner, by loosening the screws from outside
of the shell.

The innovative design makes opening and
closing easy. An unexposed moving portion of
the shutter prevents invasion of dust or sand
during the ride and maintains smooth opening
and closing.
Top Rear Outlet
The very distinctive top rear outlet of the XR1100 is separated from a spoiler, and therefore,
is placed at the ideal location for air extraction.
Four outlets located in the rear head area
correspond to different riding positions depending upon categories of motorcycles and allow
for maximum ventilation at various angles. Due
to increased number of holes and their dimension, the total exhaust hole area has been
enlarged to 1.87 times compared with the
former XR-1000 model and contributes to
improvement of exhaust performance.
Neck Outlet
The air is absorbed through an upper air intake
and lower air intake and is extracted through a
top outlet and a neck outlet located at the rear
of the shell, thus eliminating uncomfortable hot
and humid air.
Newly Designed Dual Liner
Even improved intake and outlets cannot
enhance absorption or exhaust performance
unless a correct air route is established inside
the helmet.
For the XR-1100, SHOEI’s own dual liner
system is newly designed, where the air route is
located in between the two layers of the impact
absorption liner. The number of exhaust ports
has increased from four to eight, to extract hot
and humid air inside the helmet effectively and
maintain a comfortable environment.

Fitting is felt directly by the rider, and so, can be
said to be the most important factor for comfort
of a helmet. SHOEI’s technology for interiors
ensures consistency of comfort by soft fit and
stability by firm hold, and reduces rider fatigue.

the centre pad is also removable in the XR-1100.
All interior parts can be removed for washing or
replacement after long time use.
A favoured 3-D centre pad is fitted to provide

polyurethane foam to soften pressure, whilst the
outer side is made of layers of hard polyurethane
foam to avoid shakes of the helmet and achieve
a firm hold without deterioration even after long
use. In order to imitate the shape of a human
cheek, different types of polyurethane foam
are positioned in up to 6 layers. Cheek pads in
different thicknesses are available as optional
parts for fine adjustment.

AIM+ Shell & Double Layered Liner
AIM+ (Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus) is a
complex layer of strong fibreglass and organic
fibre, with high elasticity high performance
organic fibre added. This creates SHOEI’s own
shell structure which is lightweight but, at the
same time, superior in rigidity and elasticity.
Inside this shell structure of the XR-1100, two
different density liners are combined in two
layers. As a result, a very effective impact
absorption performance is secured in various
situations such as different impacts or different
shapes of impact objects.
New Visor Lock System
The visor lock system is incorporated into the
new Q.R.S.A. system, which substantially
decreases the risk of the visor opening during
high speeds or in the event of an accident.

REAL INNOVATION
Brand New CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A. System (Europe)
The essential factor in mid and long term
product planning as a top manufacturer in a
category of premium helmets is to continue
changing, to realise profit and satisfaction of
customers continuously in a high level - even if
current products are highly assessed.
The CX-1 visor which SHOEI developed for the
first time in the industry as a flush fitting visor
system, eradicated the need for external shield
covers. Its original design has been a main
stream of visor design followed by many other
manufacturers. However, when we considered

what the SHOEI full-face model of the next
generation would be, we found it necessary to
review the design including a visor mechanism
from scratch for further satisfaction to customers. As a result, the brand new CW-1 visor and
Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self Adjusting) System
were born as a real innovation.
NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System
Development Concept
As mentioned previously, the CX-1V visor had
many merits. What were developed for further
convenience of users maintaining CX-1V’s
merits are CW-1 visor and Q.R.S.A. Base Plate.
Specifically, we studied the points below as high
priority issues for the convenience of users:
• To improve the upper vision when Pinlock
Fog-Free Lens is fitted;
• To ensure close contact of the visor and
window beading whilst the visor is fully closed;
• To allow easy adjustment of the base plate for
close contact of the visor; and
• To maintain smooth opening/closing of 2-D
visor for racing same as 3-D visor for general
use
In addition to above, we found it important to
maintain and refine further the following merits
of current CX-1V:
• Easy and firm removing/fixing of the visor by
one action; and
• Elimination of visor’s fogging by pre-set
opening and the visor lock mechanism by
handling of a lever

Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self
Adjusting) System
Variable Axis
There are several factors for a position of a
rotation axis for opening/closing of a visor.
Securing full vision, positional relationship
between the inner surface of the visor and
the shell or parts, relation with a shell shape
design and relative angle of contact with a
window beading for close contact have to be
considered.
For some of these factors a rotational axis shall
be positioned rearward while it had better be
positioned forward. In order to resolve these
contradictory requirements comprehensively,
we applied in Q.R.S.A. System a variable axis
mechanism where an axis is moved front and
rear corresponding to opening/closing angles.
This mechanism made it possible to extend
Pinlock Fog-Free lens upward and improved
close contact with the window beading.
NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System
Structure and Components of Q.R.S.A. Base Plate
A Base Plate consists of an inner plate fixed to
a shell and an outer plate supporting a visor,
and sliding of an outer plate to the front and the
rear changes position of an axis.
When a visor is fully closed, an outer plate is
pressed rearwards by 2 springs, this assists
close contact of the visor and the window
beading and performs as an allowance for
adjustment of the position of the Base Plate.
Sixteen components of the Q.R.S.A. Base Plate
were newly developed and for each of these
components such factors as strength balance,
sliding characteristics and light weight were
checked comprehensively to realise perfect
movement.

Newly Developed CW-1 Visor
A visor developed together with Q.R.S.A. Base
Plate is the CW-1. Both horizontal and vertical
dimensions are enlarged so that it may correspond to extended vision caused by a wider
eye port.
A rib on an inner top of the visor eliminates step
with Pinlock Fog-Free lens and realises rigidity
of a whole visor and flush surface with the shell.
The surface of an enlarged lip for opening/
closing of the visor is adjusted to a direction of
visor opening for smooth handling.
CW-1 is made of polycarbonate and 3-D
moulded as has been developed by SHOEI for
a long time. Long experience and high technology for mould designing allows clear vision with
minimum distortion. Almost 100% of UV ray is
blocked and a hard coating is applied to resist
scratches.
Substantially Extended Upper Vision
of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens
The new shaped Pinlock Fog-Free lens with
extended vision is designed for Q.R.S.A.+
CW-1 Visor. The combination of 2 layered
structure with air chamber between the visor
and the lens with a special coated anti-fog lens
reduces fogging and ensures clear vision. We
received requests from many customers to
improve upper vision of Pinlock Fog-Free lens.

With the Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor, we succeeded in increasing the top end of the Pinlock Fog-Free lens and silicone sealing out of
vision by methods below;
a) Control of visor’s movement by variable axis;
b) Application of rib at inner top of visor to
make the height of visor’s inner surface the
same as the Pinlock Fog-Free lens
c) Extension of the visor upward to position the
top end of the Pinlock Fog-Free lens in overlapping portion of the shell and visor. Extended
clear vision enhances comfort and concentration in rain or low temperatures.

Improved Close Contact of Visor and Window Beading
By application of a variable axis, an angle of
contact with the window beading becomes
perfect when the visor is fully closed and
secures firm close contact all through circumference.
And also, when the visor is fully closed, an
outer base plate is pressed rearward in the
direction of the window beading by 2 springs
and assists close contact.
The structure of the window beading is also
updated in new models applying
Q.R.S.A+CW-1 Visor. An upper portion is
elastic in lip shape while side portion and the
bottom are in curled and lip shapes respectively
to secure close contact with the visor which is
sliding rearward by Q.R.S.A. System.
An improved close contact of the visor and the
window beading enhances wind breaking
effect, and therefore, air turbulence around face
inside the visor is decreased and noise reduction is improved by the decrease of noise from
around the visor.

Maintenance-Free Visor Closure
The Q.R.S.A system eliminates the need for
periodic maintenance, unlike its predecessor,
as the new mechanism ensures perfect closure
of the visor every time.

Corresponding to a Wider Eye Port
The CW-1 visor has been increased in size in order to fit the wider eye aperture on the XR-1100.
This makes motorcycling safer and more comfortable.
Easy One Action Visor Fixing/Removing
SHOEI’s unique quick removal system is continued in the Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor. To remove
the visor, just open the visor fully, pull the trigger
of Q.R.S.A. Base Plate downward and release
hook and gear. To fix it, press hook and gear to

Q.R.S.A Base Plate until it clicks in the same
fully opened position. It is very easy. The
Q.R.S.A also allows a visual inspection to
ensure correct fitment has been achieved.

Flush Surface and Round Shape contributing to Quietness
Pre-set Opening and Visor Lock
SHOEI’s own visor lock and pre-set lever to
keep the visor in a slightly opened position are
improved further in the Q.R.S.A. System for
easy handling. By moving a lever downward
from a standard position while the visor is fully
closed, an outer base plate slides forward and
creates a slight gap between the visor and the
window beading. A proper introduction of outer
air eliminates or avoids fogging. The visor is
locked and a sudden opening of the visor is
avoided when a lever is moved upward.*
NEW CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A System
Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor is in a coverless structure
without any component located on the visor to
support it. Flush surfaces without unnecessary
joints or steps avoid air turbulence or an excessive air stream over the shell surface, which
contributes to quietness. A rib at the top end of
the visor minimises the gap with the shell.
Thinner ends to the visor improves flush fit to
the shell. Surface of mechanical portions in both
sides is designed in a 3-D round shape to fit the
shell.
* A visor may be opened even if it is locked when an excessive force is applied.
