Untitled - Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla
Industria SEFF’ 15. Introduction
The world’s cinematographic sector is immersed in a relentless transformation, driven by technological
changes which have fundamentally altered the life cycle of films, its value chain and which also affect the
cultural habits and the society as a whole.
The changes demand the constant adaptation of the sector’s professionals. Producers, but also filmmakers,
lawmakers, distributors and exhibitors have to co-operate in new strategies to achieve the sector’s viability, to
reach fragmented audiences through a multiplicity of channels; the same technology that up until now
seemed to threaten the very existence of the sector is now helping it manage an apparent disorder in which
the role of prescribers and public seem blurrier. There is no doubt that in this entropy is where the keys for
the future hide.
The European cinematographic sectors’ positioning within this global dynamic is key for tis evolution and
Industria SEFF acts again as a meeting point for filmmakers, professionals and institutions.
Industria SEFF’s utmost goal is to be useful in the forging of diverse Andalusian, Spanish and European
cinematographic sectors that reflect the rich and complex societies in which the films are born.
Programme
International Audiovisual Meeting
Jointly organized by Extenda (Andalusian Agency for International Promotion) and Creative Europe MEDIA
Desk Andalucía, Industria SEFF proposes, from Monday November 9th to Wednesday November 11th three
days of debates and meetings around the theme of distribution of independent films.
The aim is to contribute to the internationalization and viability of local film projects by building up
professional networks. The first two days are dedicated to feature films, while Wednesday’s focus is on nonfiction cinema.
The round tables and conferences are open to all professionals accredited to the festival, while the one to one
meetings on Monday and Tuesday are reserved to companies registered through Extenda. The workshops on
non-fiction cinema by Irena Taskovski on Wednesday are also reserved to companies and professionals
registered through Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Andalusia.

Distribution & Circulation in Europe. Towards new markets and circuits (theatrical and online)
10h-11:45h
Art house and independent cinema faces new challenges and opportunities. This type of films represent,
better than any other, the diversity of point of views of the European filmmakers on their societies, which are
also our societies. They are a sector as fragile as it is valuable, both in terms of identity and also economically
and for the international image of Europe.
Some of the most relevant professionals in the sector will provide us with their vision on the current situation
and the future of this type of cinema in Europe, on the role of festivals to promote it, and on how technology
may be perceived as an opportunity or a threat, depending on the legal framework, on the rules of the game
set by lawmakers.
 Valerio Caruso, director, Cineuropa, Italy
 Loïc Magneron, founder and CEO, Wide management, sales agents, distributors, producers, France
 Carlos R. Ríos, director of the International Art House Cinema Festival of Barcelona (D’A), responsible

Things You Always Wanted to Know About Audiovisual Contracts (But Were Afraid to Ask)
12:15h-13:30h
Nothing of what has always been important in the business –instinct, relations with talent and funders- it is
now less so, but the producer must now add new tools to make his or her projects into films that reach an
audience. Managing royalties in the new online channels or fiscal planning may be key to a film’s feasibility.

financial plan.

Non-fiction cinema
Non-fiction cinema or creative documentary is one of freer and most talked about genres in the European
independent cinema scene for its boldness in exploring new cinematographic languages. Although there is a
production of great quality in Spain, this cinema continues to survive on the margins and it is not sufficiently
supported, nor has it the exhibition channels it merits.
Creating encouraging environments for documentary films The Scottish Documentary Institute
10h-11:30h
Founded in 2004 and part of the University of Edinburgh’s College of Arts not, the SDI only trains filmmakers,
but through initiatives such as Bridging the Gaps provides ways for its graduates to produce their first film.
Thanks to an architecture of agreements with institutions, televisions, and festivals, SDI produces, promotes
and distributes shorts and feature length documentary films. Amongst its latest projects, they are now
forming documentary film producers on funding and distribution.
