Principal’s Message
Dear Kleb Parents and Students,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and got some well deserved
rest and quality time with family and friends. With the break behind us, it is nice to get back into
the swing of things and to see our Bearcub family once again.
January is here, and we are diving straight into our second semester! The spring semester
always seems to fly by quickly as it entails a variety of events from academic competitions, to state
testing, to ceremonies, and more! I would personally like to invite you all to join us in the many
upcoming events here at Kleb Intermediate. Please read below, and throughout this newsletter, for
further details!
Before I outline the upcoming semester, I would like to share some exciting news regarding
Kleb Intermediate for the 2016-2017 school year. In October 2015, the KISD Board of Trustees
approved a technology plan that will roll out digital learning devices for all students in grades 3-8,
starting next school year. This plan will stretch over 5 years, with 4 intermediate schools going 1:1
(a term used referring to a digital learning device for every student) starting next year. Along with
3 other intermediate schools, Kleb Intermediate was selected as one of the 4 intermediate schools
to pioneer the expansion of the KISD 1:1 plan (see page 3 for a plan visual) next year! This roll out
will be similar, however different, from the current KISD high schools and Krimmel Intermediate’s
1:1 plan. Unlike the tablets that they use, Google Chromebooks will be the device that KISD will
adopt for next year’s plan. Chromebooks are different in several regards. I have included a link
here of a short video that highlights the advantages of a Chromebook in the educational setting. I
am certainly excited to be a part of this opportunity as it fits in with our vision and goals of Kleb
Intermediate—to create a future-ready learning environment to better prepare our students for
high school and beyond. As we gather further information, Kleb will host several 1:1 parent
informational meetings to give you more information on what to expect, usage in the classroom,
student internet safety, and more. Our teachers are excited about this opportunity and will be
receiving numerous trainings throughout the year and summer to facilitate Chromebooks in the
everyday classroom. These devices are a valuable tool in assisting our teachers to continually
provide your student(s) with the highest quality education. I look forward to sharing further
information on our 1:1 plan in the coming months.
We hope to see you at our annual Spring Open House and Dinner put on by our fabulous
PTO scheduled for Tuesday, February 2. This open house is multifaceted as it includes an optional
dinner and opportunity to visit with your child’s teachers! The dinner will be held from 5:30 to
6:30 in the Kleb Cafeteria and the open house, in a come and go fashion, from 6:45 to 8:00. Dinner
ordering information can be found in this newsletter. To top off the night, our annual library book
fair will also be held during the open house hours for parents and students to make purchases. It is
a night you will not want to miss!

Kleb Intermediate Destination Imagination Teams Hosts DI Klebfest Kleb Intermediate School’s 3 DI Teams will be hosting a large festival on Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the Kleb parking lot and cafeteria at 7425 Louetta Road, Spring, TX 77379. The festival will feature a large inflatable obstacle course, a large inflatable slide and a 3‐in‐1 Inflatable Sports Arena for kids to play on. The festival will also have a multi‐family yard sale, games, prizes, food, and crafts/vendor booths. Booths are still available for any crafts companies or vendors who wish to sell or display that day. We also have sponsorships available for local businesses who wish to show their support of Kleb Intermediate. Contact Suzanne McDaniel at smcdaniel1@klenisd.net if you are interested. In addition to the fun and games, Kleb art students will be showcasing their talent in an art show held in the cafeteria. Artwork created this year will be displayed in a variety of media and techniques. Benefits will proceed the Kleb DI program, helping to send any successful teams from Regional Tournaments to State Tournament where they will compete against DI teams from around the state. The Klein Destination Imagination program is a creative problem solving organization that encourages teams of students to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts and service learning. These students learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. Attention Kleb 8th graders:

Credit By Examination (CBE)
Klein ISD students enrolled in grades 6 -12 may attempt to earn credit for courses in which they have not had
prior classroom instruction through a process known as Credit By Examination. In order to earn credit, a
student must score at or above 80% on any test taken. Registration forms and other information about the
CBE program are available in the counselors’ office.
Promotion/Retention
To be promoted in grades 6-8, a student must attain an average of 70% or above in language arts (including
reading improvement if it is required) and mathematics (including mathematics improvement if it is required).
In addition, the student must have a passing average of at least a 70% in science and social studies, as well as
an overall average of 70% or above in all courses taken. Any student whose final yearly average is below 70%
in language arts, math, science or social studies will be required to successfully complete the Edgenuity
program for that subject in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Counselors will notify
parents/guardians by a letter if their student is currently in danger of retention based on the first semester
average. Copies of progress reports and report cards may be obtained from the counselors’ office. If your
student is currently in danger of failing a class, please contact the teacher in order to develop a plan for
improvement. Your assistance is vital for your student’s success. Please check the Parent Connect website for

Edgenuity
If you child failed (grade below 70%) English, math, science and/or social studies, contact your child’s
counselor for grade repair information. Students who have failed an academic class may attend Edgenuity
after school. The class ends at 5:45 p.m. The Edgenuity dates are as follows:

Advanced Theatre Wins at Ren Fest
Advanced Theatre students traveled to the Texas Renaissance Festival this November to compete
in group scenes. Taking first place, the team of: Ammedeo Ammutinato, Sophia Enloe, Xavier
Lopez, Marielle Morris, Claire Sammons, and Walter Zogg performed “Greece: the Ancient
Musical”.
School Days at Ren Fest are an annual tradition of performance, culture, and theatre history.

The Alley Theatre Partners with Kleb
Drama!
“In this two-year partnership, with the guidance of Alley Theatre Education & Community Engagement,
Kleb will create arts-education experiences that complement existing classroom curriculum.”
Professional actors and directors from the Alley lead workshops with all theatre students in Kleb’s theatre classrooms.
Workshop topics so far have included:
MOVEMENT 360 introduces students to practices such as Laban and Rasa Aesthetics to increase physical and
emotional flexibility and encourage awareness of the actor’s body. Laban Movement Analysis enables students to
develop a movement vocabulary, discover the creative impulses of the body and explore new ways to physicalize a
character. Rasa Aesthetics provides students with the tools to access, express and manage feeling and emotions within
the context of performance.
VOICE 360 students work on developing a connection between voice and body. Through a series of exercises students
will learn to strengthen breathing muscles; improve vocal resonance and pitch; and express themselves clearly and
effectively using articulation and projection.
THEATRE THROUGH THE AGES explores the history of theatre, various performance styles, and the surrounding
social and political context of the times. Topics include: Greek Theatre, Shakespeare, Commedia Dell’ Arte, Comedy
of Manners, Early Modernism, and more.
We look forward to our upcoming Aristotle workshop this spring, and planning out next year’s curriculum with the
Alley.

Taylor, and P. Cerda. These students worked very
hard on learning their music and perfecting their
skills. We are extremely proud of their
accomplishments. The Region Orchestra members
participated in a clinic and concert on the weekend of November 20th and
21st at Klein Forest High School. Those making Region Band will participate in the clinic
and concert on December 11th and 12th held at College Park HS in The Woodlands.
All advanced band members will be participating in the Klein ISD Solo and Ensemble Contest on
Saturday, January 30th at Klein High School. Participation in this contest helps each student
grow musically; no matter what rating they receive. All who participate are winners! Kleb will
also hold a Solo and Ensemble fun/help night on January 22nd to provide extra help before
the contest, and enjoy a game night with other band members. More information about the
contest and help session will be coming home with your students at a later date.
Our Mixed Bags Spring Fundraiser will be in February, so look for more information to help us
raise funds for the band! Also, look for more information on our “Fun Day” at ITZ in February.

“Note”able News from the Orchestra
On Saturday, November 21st, at Klein Forest High School, 12 of the
Kleb Orchestra students with the most advanced players in Region IX,
performed in the 2015 All-Region Orchestra Concert. These students
practiced vigorously for the big concert and attended over eight hours
worth of rehearsals in a period of two days with their guest conductor. The
concert was a great success, and Mrs. Herron, and Mr. Jackson are very
proud of all of the students who auditioned, as well as those who made
these prestigious Orchestras!
Congratulations to all of the Kleb Orchestras for such an
enjoyable and entertaining Winter Holiday Concert. All of the students
worked really hard to make this evening a huge success.
The Orchestra has a social event coming up on January 29th. We plan on having a wonderful
time at Main Event. Paperwork regarding this event will be coming home very soon.
Good luck to all the Orchestra students as they prepare for their upcoming contests. The
Intermediate, Philharmonic, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras will perform at the KISD Solo &
Ensemble Contest held at Klein H.S. on Saturday, February 20th and the Concert and Beginner
Orchestras will be performing in the KISD Solo Contest at Wunderlich on Thursday, March 3rd, 2016.
The students will all receive detailed information regarding these contests from Mrs. Herron and Mr.
Jackson in class.
The Philharmonic, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras have begun to prepare for the Klein
Festival on Saturday, March 5th followed by the Ann Roberts Orchestra Festival on April 2nd, 2016.
More details about these events will be forthcoming in class.
