Marc Leclair’s Akufen project twisted up the house and techno scene when it introduced the world at large to
the frantic cut-up styles of micro house. Matching humour with accomplished sound design, the hard grooving
album ‘My Way’ and singles that orbited it for such legendary labels as Perlon, Trapez and his spiritual home of
Musique Risquée influenced a legion of producers that followed in his wake.
Evolving beyond the trappings of that considerable legacy, Marc launched the Horror Inc. project as an outlet for
a more atmospheric, melodically focused kind of groove, whilst also diverting into ambient and textural studies
under his own name. Now his output and appearances come at tantalising junctures, delivering unexpected EPs
that move his distinctive style ever forward by embracing new rhythms and moods, but still occasionally
returning to the riotous, sample-chopping sound that launched him. While his music has always ably straddled
the opposing poles of accessibility and avant-garde, Marc will never give his special kind of groove away too
easily, but it makes it all the sweeter when he does.
