…A LA TABLE DE CHABBAT
" Q ue s oi t ma udi t c e l ui q ui é g ar e l ' a ve ug l e s ur s on c he mi n! - E t l e
pe upl e r é po n dr a: A me n. " ( D e ut é r o no me , 2 7 , 18 )

THE SIYUM PROJECT
5776 (2015-2016) The Year of "Hakhel" (Assembly)
- A Year of Gathering for Torah Observance and Study -
The Torah states, “At the end of every seven years (Shmitah)… When all Israel comes to appear before Gd… you shall read this Torah before all Israel, in their ears. Assemble the people: the men, the women, the
children...” (Deuteronomy 31:10-12) This event was known as Hakhel. It was the only event that required
the attendance of every Jew, reminiscent of the historic moment when our nation stood at Mount Sinai,
when every member of our nation was present when G-d lovingly gave us the Torah. During this upcoming
year of “Hakhel” (5776), we encourage all Jews to utilize this auspicious time to assemble – men, women
and children – and encourage each other to increase in Torah observance and study.
Pair up with a Rabbi to learn and complete a Tractate of Talmud,
followed by a Siyum (completion) celebration!!!

TORAH THOUGHTS
You shall take of the first of all the fruit of the land... (Deuteronomy 26:2)
Everything that is for the sake of G-d should be of the best and most beautiful. When
one builds a house of prayer, it should be more beautiful than his own dwelling. When
one feeds the hungry, he should feed him of the best and sweetest of his table. When
one clothes the naked, he should clothe him with the finest of his clothes. Whenever one
designates something for a holy purpose, he should sanctify the finest of his
possessions; as it is written, "The choicest to G-d."
The rule, "the choicest to G-d," applies in all areas of life. If the school day must include
both sacred and secular studies, the former should be scheduled for the morning hours
when the mind is at its freshest and most receptive. If one's talents are to be divided
between two occupations, one whose primary function is to pay the bills and a second
which benefits his fellow man, he should devote his keenest abilities to the latter.
In devoting the "first-ripened fruits" of his life to G-d, a person, in effect, is saying:
"Here lies the focus of my existence. Quantitatively, this may represent but a small part
of what I am and have; but the purpose of everything else I do and possess is to enable
this percentile of spirit to rise above my matter-clogged life."

MONTH OF ELUL
The month of Elul contains tremendous energies of Divine compassion for the Jewish People. It is
customary to inspect one's past actions, repent for misdeeds and make a firm resolution to better one's ways.
It is customary to give extra charity and to recite the entire book of tehillim during this month, as a
preparation for the days of awe (Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur). Those interested in getting a free book of
Tehilim, please contact the synagogue. Our Sages say, "Teshuva, Tefila and Tzedaka dispel all negative
decrees".
