“Aside from the Teeley Assets Dispersal the sale has been very
good. There is strong competition from a wide and varied bunch of
buyers.
“We are delighted with the people here on the ground and also
those yet to arrive. There will be the more long term players turning
up to buy at the mare sale as opposed to the short term players and
pinhookers which are active here at the weanling sale.”
Selling the Teeley Asset horses is Arrowfield with their Operations
Manager Sam Fairgray yesterday telling ANZ Bloodstock News that
they were pleased with the results of the sale.
“Overall we are very pleased with the results of the Teeley
weanlings today. The horses were really popular with inspections
and it was great to get the result with the Fastnet Rock colt who
sold for $600,000,” he said.
“All the Teeley horses sold really well. They were great types and
walked well and grossed just under $3,000,000. It gave a lot of
breeders and owners to get into some families that they would not
normally be able to do and this will be the same with the mares on
Wednesday.
“Overall the market is still very selective. Pinhookers sift out
what they don’t like and you often find everyone ends up on the
same horses. The base market is a bit tough, but the nice horses
with strong turnover possibilities are selling really well”
The second day of the sale begins this morning at 10am.

ollowing his win in the Grand Prix stakes (Gr 3, 2200m)
at Doomben on Saturday, the Chris Waller-trained Vilanova
(Commands) is now the $4.50 favourite with the TAB for the
Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) which will be run at Eagle
Farm on 7 June.
Waller will be hoping that the son of Commands (Danehill) can
provide him with back-to-back victories in the race after winning last
year’s running with Hawkspur (Purrealist).
Hawkspur also won the Grand Prix Stakes en route to his
Queensland Derby victory.
“He is frustrating,” Waller said.
“He needs things to go his way and I think he’s better on a wet track.
I just hope this gives him confidence and he can repeat that win.”
In four previous starts before the Grand Prix, Vilanova had been a
regular in the stewards’ reports for slow starts and mid-race incidents
which hampered his progress.
A NZ$150,000 purchase by David Ellis at the 2012 New Zealand
