Mailed entries should be sent in care of the Southeast Alaska State Fair, P.O. Box 385, Haines, Alaska 99827, must be sent prepaid, and must be received by July 20, 2012. 3. Each exhibitor will be assigned an ID number based on the location where they enter an exhibit. This ID number should be used on all entries. There is a place on each exhibit tag for your ID number. Your assigned ID number will identify the exhibitor as well as each exhibit. Permanent Fair numbers will not be used this year. 4. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to fill out an exhibit tag for each item they enter. Please be sure to include your correct mailing address. Exhibits which have been erroneously entered in a Class, may at the discretion of the Department Superintendent, be transferred to the proper Class before judging. 5. Exhibit ID numbers and tags are available from your town representative or the Fair Office. 6. The pink copy of the exhibit tag is the exhibitor’s claim check. Please bring your pink copy to claim your exhibit after the Fair. 6 DIVISIONS Within each department there are divisions based on age or level of expertise. The exhibitor must choose the applicable division. 1. Junior Division: For exhibitors age 16 and under. If you circle this division you must also state your grade at the time the exhibit was grown/made. Grade level will be taken into consideration in the judging for this division. If you fail to fill in your grade, you will automatically be placed in the highest age group. Junior-division categories include: Preschool through 2nd grade; 3rd through 6th grade; 7th through 9th grade; 10th through 12th grade. 2. Senior Division: For exhibitors 17 years of age and up. 3. Professional: For exhibitors who have taught for a fee, or have sold more than $500 in merchandise in the exhibit department category entered in one calendar year. 4. Group: For exhibits created by 2 or more people. A "Best of Class" winner is chosen from among blue ribbons winners awarded in a Class. Up to three Division Champions per Department--a Senior, Junior and Professional--are selected from the Best of Class winners. In applicable Departments, a Group Division Champion may be awarded. A Department Champion is chosen from among the Division winners as the best entry in that Department. YOUTH PREMIUMS Premium payments are made only in the Junior Division. Prizes are awarded in sponsored departments. Youth departments judged using the Danish System of evaluating the merit of each exhibit according to the stadards set for the Department: First Place - $3.00 Second Place - $2.00 Third Place - $1.00 Judging results are recorded on each exhibit tag. A complete spreadsheet of 2013 exhibit results will be posted online in August at www.seakfair.org. 7 METHODS OF JUDGING: Youth entries in all Departments, and entries in Creative Writing and Music, are judged according to the Danish System. The Danish System of judging is based upon established standards of quality for each type of product. Each exhibit is judged according to how well it meets that standard rather than how it compares with other exhibits (as in the American System). Blue ribbons earn a score of 90-100, red ribbons 80-89, and white ribbons 70-79. The American System is used in all other Departments. In the American System, entries in each lot are judged in comparison to the other entries in the lot. Entries are then awarded first, second, third, etc, according to relative merit. Only one exhibit in each lot is awarded first place, one is awarded a second place, and etc. COMPLETING EXHIBIT ENTRY TAGS: Each exhibit must be accompanied by an Exhibit Tag, which are available at the Fair Office or from your Town Representative. Please see the guidelines below. Exhibitor identification numbers will be assigned by the Town Rep or the Fair Office. Only one number per person will be issued, either a new number or your number from past years. Southeast Alaska State Fair, Inc. P. O. Box 385 • Haines, Alaska 99827• (907)766-2476 Year_______ I.D.
