TRANSLATING TRENDS INTO EVERYDAY DESIGNS
Simply being aware of trends is not enough to guarantee success for any florist. It
takes a focused approach to analyze what designers and manufacturers are saying
is the latest and greatest, and apply it to consumer trends and buying patterns.
Toomie, one of the floral industry’s leading experts on the subject, will guide you
through a look at the current trends in color, design and merchandising; while
providing practical applications certain to improve your shop’s image and bottom
line.
FTD Master Designer Toomie Farris AAF, AIFD, CFD has been involved in the
floral industry for more than thirty years both as a designer and as a manager.
Toomie received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of MissouriColumbia, majoring in Horticulture. He paid for his college education by working
in a small greenhouse on his parent’s farm in Missouri. After graduating, Toomie
taught floral design at his alma mater. He has been a design instructor on the FTD
Education Team since 1990.
Toomie Farris is President and CEO of McNamara Florist in Indianapolis, IN with
7 retail stores, a six acre greenhouse, a 58,000 square foot design center and a
special events department with 120 employees. Toomie’s work has been seen in
numerous floral industry trade publications. He is currently featured in the FTD
University video library at www.ftduniversity.com.
He travels all over the world to keep current with design trends including
attending shows in Europe, designing and buying products in China. Recently,
Toomie served as an official judge at the 2004 Interflora World Cup competition in
Melbourne, Australia on behalf of FTD.
