SUPPORTER INFORMATION PROJECT HILL CLIMB RACE CAR 2012/2013 SLK 340 JUDD PROJEKT & BASIS With the help of the latest CAD and FEM construction methods and production technologies like CAM and CNC we are currently re-designing an automobile modified mainly for international Hillclimb races in category E1. It will be totally unique and will set a new benchmark in its field. The fascination of these prototype touring cars is increasing constantly. In summary this new power-package will be built in the silhouette of a Mercedes Benz SLK. www.SLK340.com SLK340.com 2/3 The base: Due to the desired and necessary requirements in hillclimb sport with regards to handling and agility (wheelbase), the recent SLK class R172 out of the current Mercedes-Benz product range is really the only way to go when success is the aim. The car: The recent E1 regulations allow us, unique in the touring car scene, to make big changes in chassis and aerodynamics. A completely removable front, a closed under-floor, an extensive front splitter and the front and rear diffusor complete the aerodynamic package. The design is tending towards the Mercedes Benz SLS GT3 of the FIA GT3 Series. In terms of style our car will not rank at all behind the factory made cars. Production time: To reduce the production time two chassis are required for parallel buildups. One is for creating the later racing 1st prototype and a second to assist with the manufacturing of all the exterior structure carbon parts. It is planned to bring the car into action during 2013. MASCHINE & VISION Weight: 780kg incl. 5 Liter Fuel, IAW Reglement The power plant The V8 Engine has been developed in the UK by the English based company Judd. The indication of performance for this designed-on-purpose typ DB race engine is at about 610BHP, 430Nm of Torque and weighing not more than 115kg. Transmission: Transaxle Hewland TMT Recommended max. The Sachs Race Engineering Anti-Stall Clutch is a centrifugal force based working system which allows running very smooth starts right at the Grip level and have it only controlled by the driver’s right foot. SLK340.com Paddle shift: The Bavarian high tech company Megaline racing electronics is a guarantee for reliable steering wheel mounted shift systems for many teams in international endurance Racing. Also proven in Hill climbing, the OEMII System is one of the most advanced paddle shift system on the market. Megaline racing electronics have scored 10 Le Mans Victory’s unequivocally proving the quality, reliability and durability. Fine-tuning to be performed on a F1 7-post rig. Body kit All the ultra-lightweight body parts are made of carbon and carbon hybrids, developed in modern wind tunnel facilities by well experienced engineers. The aim is to develop and produce a state of the art which will include: Uprights All in-house CAD designed, FEM stress analysed, fabricated and welded out of aero spec steel. removable complete front section splitter plus front middle and rear undertray doors rear quarter panels tailgate specially made bonded monobloc Hardtop rear diffusor rear bumper Brakes Ultra low weight carbon fiber reinforced ceramic monoblock brake discs from the Munich located specialist Sicom resulting in extremely low unsprung mass. The braking force is controlled by the motorsport proven ABSsystem, manufactured by the German company Teves. www.SLK340.com Auxiliary parts Parts like engine- and steering column mounts will be designed initially with the aid of CAD software, then reviewed and further developed via CAM-software in preparation for the final stage, the CNC machining production process. 8/9 Electronic An extensive very high quality electronic package supplied by Cosworth electronics (former PI / Pectel) containing a colored display, state of the art engine control ecu, contactless central power distribution module and a dual HD camera system are incorporated. Further comprehensive ecu functions like the latest traction control, onboard paddle shift system as well as data logging of various chassis parameters complete the package. SAFETY Safety cage The chassis and roll cage mix can best be described as a flamboyant intersecting hybrid structure which with no doubts is one of the most sophisticated of its kind. Based on a lightened sheet metal chassis, all the suspension points are integrated into the tubular system. All TIG welded and positioned on a special developed jig system providing 100% accuracy and stiffness. More than 30 years of designing and producing motorsport cages and a total amount of 1800h are here condensed into an absolute masterpiece. www.SLK340.com 10/11 Safety Seat The fibrework`s seat system is a unique non-bracket version, holding the driver safely in position like in a nest. Its low down sportscar like driving position is originally developed for endurance racing, is very comfortable and adheres to the latest highly demanding FIA WRC rules. The ‚Pikes Peak international hillclimb’ or ‚race to the clouds‘ is held annually since 1916 in Colorado making it the oldest race in the world without brakes. In July 2012 this race was contested on fully paved roads for the first time and so created the first step to really validate the participation of the European high-end hillclimb race cars. The required car profile has changed from a rallycross based competition car to the typical build European hillcimb machine. All going well and after a successful first year, it is wished to participate at Pikes peak in the following season. Particularly interesting will be to compete against the favourites, especially the factory teams like Hyundai and Suzuki, who already have quite a lot of experience on the pikes peak hill. On fully paved roads this was a completely new challenge to the current competitors levelling the playing field somewhat between themselves and the highly experienced Europeans who brought with them cars already fine tuned in this environment. SLK340.com Public Relations and Media Next to several more time- attack events (USA) for promotional use, a ride on the Nürburgring Nordschleife is planned. The current lap record could be an ultimate goal. The car will also be presented on events like SEMA, PRI, Essen Motor Show and the Geneva international motor show. The project will be supported a privately own, bilingual website and blog. There will also be HD video broadcasts and TV-coverage. contact Hauptstrasse 47 CH-5316 Leuggern phone +41 56 268 70 85 mobil +41 79 404 23 82 info@meisel-motorsport.ch www.meisel-motorsport.ch www.SLK340.com DRIVER Reto Meisel ENGINEERS Martin Burmeister Daniele Piazza Daniel Arigoni Reto Meisel Philipp Rupprecht Daniel Petzold MECHANICS Martin Burmeister Rene Meisel Sonja Knutti Matthias Schneider Dieter Lüscher Kevin Huber Peter Glauser MEDIA - PR: Wolfgang Maringer Fabian Weingart Anke Stähli ADMINISTRATION LOGISTICS Sonja Knutti CATERING Corinne Wolfer TECHNICAL PARTNER KW Automotive GmbH Avon Tyres Valvoline König BBS Lockid Megaline Fibreworks Flossmann Heinz Baumgartner AG Hewland Judd Cosworth Electronics Stock flight systems Tubi style Daimler Revox Sachs Race CP-Autosport Sicom Brakes SUPPORTER Carlsson Hans Erne Metallbau F+L System AG car4you (Schweiz) AG Vögele AG Haustechnik Sanitär Race-Inn Kartbahn Team Meisel Motorsport, Supporter-Club Revox MEDIA-PARTNER Automobil Revue Speedweek Motorsport aktuell AfIT Buergi & Partner Avon Tyres Hillclimbfans RaceMedia.at
