New M-TeCK products M-TeCK: NEW WAYS OF METALLISATION M-TeCK: NEW WAYS IN METALLISATION High positioning accuracy and minimal distortion Thanks to the design of the M-TeCK stencil, a very high strength in the printing area can be achieved. The forces produced during printing are elastically absorbed by the fabric surrounding the stencil. Positions specified in the layout are reproduced with maximum accuracy for minimum distortion. Viewed over the entire service life, there is only little margin for variances during the process. Thomas Lucuta is the responsible product manager for the M-TeCK series of Christian Koenen GmbH. The M-TeCK product series – comprising the stencil, the squeegees that have been specially adapted to the requirements of the printing process, and the cleaning products – has been optimised to meet the current and future challenges in the solar cell metallisation process. The special design of the MTeCK stencil (patent pending) produces a nearly trapezoidal cross section of the printed structures. Thanks to the consistency of the open surface, irrespective of the orientation of the structures, a consistent printing result with minimum height variations can be obtained. Compared to screen printing, the conductance achieved is thus significantly higher. As the various stencil parameters can be adapted, it is possible to produce surfaces with enormous layer thicknesses even in the millimetre range. And as an additional advantage, the lines can be implemented with an optimum height-to-width ratio. Long service lives M-TeCK stencils have a long service life while delivering a constantly high printing quality. The basic material of the stencil provides a main characteristic for this: A stainless steel layer of a very high quality is used, which, thanks to its extreme hardness and durability, withstands the stresses produced in the printing process. In addition, the stainless steel layer ensures even transmission of the printing forces onto the print shoulder. Edges of openings thus stay sharp for longer. All in all, these characteristics provide the M-TeCK stencil with a service life that is significantly longer compared to the printing screen. The need for intervention by the operator is reduced ensuring an increased line output in production. Thanks to its design, the M-TeCK stencil makes printing of fine lines, closed frames and surfaces possible. 3D REPRESENTATION OF A 70µm WIDE FINGER with a minimum height of 40µm and an average height of 43µm (height axis not to scale) 300 µm 300 µm High efficiency and no Moiré effect The special manufacturing technology of the M-TeCK stencil ensures maximum control of the open surface of a structure. Irrespective of the orientation (angle position) in the layout, a consistent open surface is produced. The Moiré effect, which always poses a problem when screens are used, cannot occur with M-TeCK stencils. In order to achieve a high conductance of the printed lines, it is important to avoid Thomas Lucuta Product Manager M-TeCK You can reach Mr Lucuta at Phone: +49(0)89 66 56 18 -35 E-Mail: tlu@ck.de narrowing of the cross section. In screen printing, the position of mesh intersections close to the line edge results in lower paste application. With the M-TeCK stencil, there are no intersection points. Volume variations are thus avoided and consistent printing results with minimum variations in height and cross section are achieved. 300 µm 70µm WIDE FINGER: PRINTED WITH THE M-TeCK STENCIL Due to the optimal cross section shape of the printed structures, the efficiency of the end products is increased. DIRECT COMPARISON OF STENCIL AND SCREEN Longitudinal profile of a printed 70µm wide finger (left: conventional screen printing; right: printed with the M-TeCK stencil) High reproducibility A special printing process requires optimal basic conditions. The M-TeCK squeegee offers maximum process control and minimum variance when used with M-TeCK stencils. The various stiffnesses of the squeegee and the degrees of hardness of the printing edge are adapted individually depending on the process requirements. Especially the fine structures of the M-TeCK stencil for printing fine lines require optimal care. The M-TeCK cleaning products and processes fulfil the requirements of high-quality materials and ensure a maximum service life for highest efficiency and availability.
