To assist individuals who are addicted or at risk, and their
families, to find help and resources.
To identify and advocate measures that hold the medical
community accountable for over prescribing opiates.
We are committed to achieving our mission by educational
forums, professional development, Narcan trainings, online
support services, guided support groups, resource and navigation services and activities that bring visibility to issues
related to substance use and abuse.
Substance Use Disorder is a brain disease that has no boundaries and affects our community regardless of demographics.
One in three families are directly impacted by Substance Use
Disorders. Drug Crisis in our Backyard works to reduce the
stigma, embarrassment and shame that families may feel
when confronting this issue. Our objective is to create a climate in our community which allows open dialogue without
judgement. We promote the concept that this a community
issue in which collectively we can make a difference in the
lives of others.

For those of you who read this
newsletter every month I want to
thank you on behalf of the Chamber
for taking the time to learn how
much we are involved in helping you
promote your business. Do you get the
impression that there is a lot going on
in the Chamber these days? Well it’s
not just your imagination. Look at the
calendar of events and see our busy
schedule that we offer our members.
Our Chamber needs all its members to
participate on committees, attend our
events, recruit members and support
us with sponsorships. Our goal is to
grow this Chamber with diverse and
exciting members!
This year on July 16th, the Chamber
awarded five $1,500 and one $2,500
(Constance C. Petri) Scholarships
to local high school seniors at our
Scholarship Awards Dinner. We extend
our thanks to the co-sponsors of this
event, Doug Petri of A.S.A.P. Mortgage
Corp, Little Sorrento Restaurant and
Marc and Sheryl Saidel of Saidel
and Saidel who also co-chaired the
Scholarship Committee. We wish all
our students success in their future
endeavors. It was gratifying to see their
proud parents acknowledged in this
way that will help them prepare for
their future. On behalf of the Chamber
we would like to thank all our members
who contributed throughout the year to
this wonderful cause.
On August 16, we will host our Member
Appreciation Night with a Cocktail
Reception at Little Sorrento Restaurant
saluting Tim Beachak of Signs, Inc.,
Cathy Corbi of Apple Bank, MaryEllen
Herzog of Lakeland Central School
District, Joseph Riina of Site Design
Consultants and Dr. Tasios Vakkas
of Yorktown Oral Surgery for their
contributions to the Chamber. It will be
a great evening so please reserve early
by calling Margaret Primavera at the
office. Cost: $40pp.
By now you should have received
a request to advertise in the 2016
Yorktown Chamber of Commerce
Membership Directory/Community
Profile and Reference Guide. This Guide
is a listing of all the businesses and
associations of the Chamber. It will
be sent to every Chamber member,
distributed throughout Yorktown and
will be available at the Yorktown Festival
and Street Fair in October. This could be
the best year-long advertising tool for
your business so take advantage of this
opportunity when you are approached
to advertise in it.

Our Yorktown
Chamber Young
Professionals had
a very successful
meeting on
June 30th at the
Mohansic Grill
and Lounge. Our
Eric DiBartolo
Chairman of the
President
Board, Aaron Bock,
attended and was very impressed by
the caliber and enthusiasm of our
young entrepreneurs it attracted.
Sales are gearing up for the 2016 Fall
Festival and Street Fair. Even though
this is our 7th year, we still are working
hard to make it better and more
exciting than ever before, so call in with
your exhibit reservations and think
about the great sponsorships that
are still available. Please contact the
Chamber if you need more information.
Our next networking meeting will be
on September 19 at the Holiday Inn
Express & Suites, 2 John Walsh Blvd.,
Peekskill, NY 10566. Let’s support this
new hostelry member by attending.
It’s good seeing more and more new
faces at our networking meetings. Word
gets around of their quality and the
benefit to each member. I hope to see
you there. Business relationships do
not evolve overnight. They evolve over
time. When you attend Chamber events
and network at meetings, people get
to know you on a personal basis and
eventually get business opportunities
when they occur. If you don’t participate
it will not happen. As always, my door is
open to all members with any concerns
or suggestions. Have a great summer!
