1:30 – 3:30 LEADING BY EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT PHIL MILLER Professional Director, Carlson Consulting Enterprise Carlson School of Management An important part of leadership is your ability to cut to the heart of an issue and rally a diverse group around it. How often have you struggled to get to the core of an issue or to clearly organize your thinking on a question? Have you ever been sideswiped by unexpected opposition to an idea or program you’ve proposed? If you are like most professionals the answer is “more often than I’d like.” This session demonstrates tools that are proven to be effective in organizing both problem-solving efforts and stakeholder management. The initial focus on determining “what problem am I trying to solve?” transitions to “how do I get people on board?” through the use of pragmatic application of these tools to real-world problems. Bring an existing situation or case with you to work on. PHIL MILLER is an experienced business leader and educator who has led teams, organizations and business operations and teaches management, consulting methodology and critical thinking at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels.
