Shell Construction
Artisan series drum shells are made from hand select,
grade “A” hardwoods. Each ply is cut to exact specifications and laminated using our exclusive high pressure
molding process. Dixon master drum makers have spent
years refining the traditional shell making method to
ensure that every Artisan drum delivers optimum tuning
range and tone.

To offer the logical alternative to the Total Maple Shell, our craftsmen combined the best of two worlds to create
the ultimate drum shell hybrid; the result is our 8-ply MBS shell, a special blend of 2-ply North American Maple
and 6-ply African Bubinga. The MBS effect is a darker fundamental with a surprising increase in projection
providing endless possibilities for today’s innovative drummer.
