Discover What’s Possible When
You See the World Differently
Dear Customer:
Thinking differently is what drives innovation. At Hughes, innovation is both our commitment and our
passion—from operating HughesNet, the world’s #1 high-speed satellite Internet service for consumers
and small businesses, to providing market-leading managed network services for enterprises and
governments globally, to developing advanced broadband technologies and solutions for the world’s
premier operators. Now as part of EchoStar Corporation, the combined companies create a global
powerhouse in satellite-based digital video and broadband solutions and services.
Innovators make history. The Hughes legacy of innovation began over 25 years ago when we invented
the commercial very small aperture terminal (VSAT), and since then have been the technology and
market leader in satellite networks with more than 3.3 million systems shipped to customers in over
100 countries. Wal-Mart’s decision in 1984 to choose Hughes and implement the world’s first enterprise
VSAT network was hailed by Fortune magazine as one of the top 20 strategic business decisions of
the twentieth century. Since then we’ve continually invested in expanding the capabilities and market
reach of broadband technologies and applications, and have become one of today’s leading providers
of managed network services to blue chip companies across all major verticals—including retail, oil/gas,
automotive, financial services, lottery, and hospitality—and to governments for emergency preparedness,
telework, and defense/intelligence solutions, such as SATCOM on-the-move everywhere—including
land, maritime, and airborne. Our award-winning SPACEWAY® 3 satellite—the world’s first with onboard
switching and routing—has powered a revolution in Ka-band technology, helping close the digital divide
by bringing high-speed, affordable Internet access to consumers and small businesses in North America
that are either unserved or underserved by terrestrial broadband technologies.
The World’s Leading Provider of
Satellite Broadband for Home and Office
Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES)
is the world’s leading provider of satellite
broadband for home and office, delivering
innovative network technologies, managed
services, and solutions for enterprises and
governments globally. HughesNet® is the
#1 high-speed satellite Internet service in
the marketplace, with offerings to suit
every budget. Hughes products employ
global standards approved by the TIA, ETSI,
and ITU organizations, including IPoS/DVB-S2,
RSM-A, and GMR-1. Headquartered outside
Washington, D.C., in Germantown, Maryland,
USA, Hughes operates sales and support
offices worldwide, and is a wholly owned
subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ:
SATS), a premier global provider of satellite
operations and digital TV solutions.
According to COMSYS® VSAT Reports published from 1988 to 2011, Hughes has consistently held
over 50 percent cumulative market share of the global VSAT business. We are also a major provider
of technologies, systems, and terminals to the world’s leading mobile satellite operators.
The future is in development today as Hughes engineers create the breakthroughs of tomorrow. Launched
on July 5, 2012 by Arianespace from Kourou, French Guiana, our Ka-band EchoStar® XVII satellite
with JUPITER™ high-throughput technology will be the cornerstone of HughesNet Gen4 high-speed
Internet service across North America. With well over 100 Gbps capacity, EchoStar XVII will bring a
media-rich world to over 1.5 million subscribers.
Our business is broadband, and we recognize that the true measure of our success is the impact we
make on people’s lives. That’s why we think differently. I invite you to find out more and join us in our
journey of discovery.
Sincerely,
Pradman Kaul
President
