With the return of Wings Over the Smokies I had high hopes and excellent plans on arriving Saturday morning and joining our other chapter members, but it was not to be. Family issued kept me from attending, but I hope that all our members who went had a great time and had lots of fun (and maybe bought some safety chrome). North Carolina has a nice mix of not only having the coast line that Chapter Q enjoys, but also the mountains (including Cherokee). Maybe next year will be better for me. I hope we get lots of stories of fun times from our other newsletter contributors. Also congratulations to Roy and Cindy Bryant on becoming the new North Carolina Couple of the Year. As we get closer to the end of the year we start closing things out, like having a Chapter Christmas Party on December 14th at Magnolia Greens, as well as getting ready for next year. I would still like to have someone help by filling in as an Assistant Chapter Director in 2015. Remember the more you participate the more you learn and the more fun you can have. Please also remember as we close out the year, our annual pilgrimage to the O’Berry center on December 6th for “Gifts on Cycles”. Please do not forget that our November meeting is the annual “Ladies Chapter Meeting”. This is always a favorite. All of the Chapter meeting activities will be run by the Ladies of the chapter. We never know what to expect, but it is always a great meeting. For Chapter members in other Chapters, please come and join the fun. Ride Often – Ride Safe Dale Porter Assistant Chapter Director – STILL OPEN Chapter Rider Educators Well it is hard to believe but Wings Over the Smokies has come and gone. It is hard to believe but boy did we have a great time. I believe everyone feels the same way. As much as we have preached and have written about ride your own ride and all the gear all the time, it is nice to see everyone paid attention. Another thing that was definitely put to work was wearing layers. On Sunday when Terry and I left it was nice but cloudy. By the time we hit Columbia it was sunny and hot. We had to stop and remove layers including the liner to our riding jackets. Once we arrived at Cherokee the temperature changed. It was in the 50’s when we left the hotel and of course Terry had her heated jacket on. By the middle of the day she had removed the jacket but still had on long sleeves and a sweat shirt. So know the lesson here is take all the gear with you no matter what the weather is at home. The rides were wonderful and it is with great satisfaction to say no one had any trouble on curves. We all enjoyed the rides and did it safely. If you get a chance be sure to ask Deb to show you her pictures. That girl can take pictures no matter where you are. The only thing that slowed her down was when her battery died. Deb and John are now sporting new Chapter Vest. They had a great time at the Goodies table making the purchases. They also are sporting new riding jackets. Carol also made a new purchase. She now has a new riding jacket. Way to go Chapter Q. We will be taking an ERC on Nov. 1 at Coastal Community College. If you are interested please email or call me ASAP. We need to let them know how many we have that will be attending. Just remember Ride Safe and have Fun. John & Margaret Robbins Cycle Pete’s Tech Tip: No Tech Tip this month. Ride Safe Pete Share your Ride Each of you takes rides on your own, or with others outside of chapter events, or as individual visitations to other chapters. We want to know how much fun you are having. Let us know about these rides and write us a little story about them, and share a few photos. Each ride should start with a little safety briefing. Did you know “these count” towards the overall Chapter Rider Education Program? If nothing else, let us (Dean or Dale) know you went so we can add you to our books. 9/13/2014 - I rode to Morehead City, NC to take a buddy on the 911 Memorial Ride sponsored by the Elks Club with benefits going to Wounded Warriors and First Responders. They had a decent turnout of riders. We rode for about an hour when I got sick and got to finish the ride in an ambulance to the Morehead City Emergency Room, then later that night got to ride an ambulance to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington.
