Shopping while witnessing the great noble heritage of the city, its architectural beauties, or enjoying a café terrace before a murmuring fountain is just a small part of what awaits you in Aix. A city beautified by its baroque mansions, adorned with parks and gardens recalling past centuries. Bouc Bel Air is a typical Provencal village which has grown up around the ancient castle built on a rocky peak in the 7th-century. Stunning views from the Belvedere: to the east, the Regagnas, Olympe, and Auréliens mountains, the Cengle plateau and the Sainte-Victoire range; to the south, the Garlaban, the Etoile range and Baou de Bretagne. Adolphe Thiers, Joseph Autran, André Roussin, Frantz Liszt and Alexandre Dumas were born or lived in this village. • Albertas gardens 04 42 22 94 71 www.jardinsalbertas.com • Saint Sauveur Cathedral (5th to 17th centuries) Pavillon de Vendôme | Granet Museum | Granet XXe | Caumont Centre d’Art CHÂTEAUNEUF-LE-ROUGE Town Hall +33 (0)4 42 58 62 01 7 ÉGUILLES Tourist Office +33 (0)4 42 92 49 15 www.chateauneuflerouge.fr www.mairie-eguilles.fr/fr/tourisme The very pretty Provencal village of Châteauneufle-Rouge, just east of Aix-en-Provence, has always attracted visitors, from Marcus Aurelius to Cézanne, because of its architectural heritage, the grounds of its castle with ancient trees, the murmuring fountains on its restored square, and its award-winning food festival which is held every year on the first Sunday in July. Standing 300 metres above sea level, the village of Eguilles has retained its character and offers an incomparable panoramic view. In the centre is the castle, built by the Boyer d’Eguilles family in the 17th-century and now housing the Town Hall. In the shade of its majestic entrance, the clock has been working for 150 years. Stroll through the village and see its pretty, narrow streets linked by steep flights of steps, so typical of Provence. • Arteum (Museum of contemporary art) (in the castle) +33 (0)4 42 58 61 53 www.mac-arteum.net • Eguilles’s castle (town hall) • Eguilles’s garden - Max Sauze (By appointment only) +33 (0)6 16 57 08 64 www.max-sauze.com 6 COUDOUX Town Hall +33 (0)4 42 52 07 07 www.coudoux.fr 2 BEAURECUEIL Town Hall +33 (0)4 42 66 92 90 North of Beaurecueuil, an unpaved path climbing towards the foothills of Sainte-Victoire takes you to the Parc de Roques-Hautes, a geological site listed in 1964.
