The Valley’s BEST Morning &
Afternoon Drive DJs are on
MEGA 104.3FM
Critics' Picks: Best Morning DJ
Alex Santa Maria
5-10 a.m. weekdays on 104.3 FM (KAJM)
mega1043.com
Alex Santa Maria has been a part of the Valley scene since 1978, when he
landed a gig at KRUX covering high-school sports. Since then, his smooth,
made-for-radio voice has rarely been absent, as he has landed jobs at Top 40
and R&B stations.
These days, he provides the heat in the mornings at old-school Mega 104.3,
which seems like a perfect fit for Santa Maria. Not only he is a reassuring
presence on the airwaves, but you know this Phoenix native genuinely loves
the music.
Critics' Picks: Best Afternoon Drive DJ
Ruben S.
2-6 p.m. weekdays on KAJM-FM (104.3)
mega1043.com
Things are still crazy for Ruben S., even though he hasn't been paired
with former partner Crazy Kid for a few years now. On his own, Ruben
"Radio Boi" Escobar has scored with a slot at Mega 104.3, where he plays
requests and even helps listeners brush up on their Spanish skills.
Smart and playful, there's a reason that Ruben S. has been part of the
Valley radio scene for more than a decade: He's just good.

Phoenix New Times declares KNRJ The Beat
the Best Hip-Hop Station in Phoenix
Best Hip-Hop Radio Station - 2010
The Beat 92.7 FM and 99.3 FM
//www.azthebeat.com
Urban oldies? It seemed like sort of a weird idea when The Beat — a quadrocast
station made up of KNRJ 101.1 FM, K224CJ 92.7 FM, K257CD 99.3 FM, and
K228XO 93.5 FM — started bumping old-school R&B and hip-hop in late 2008. Then
an L.A. station picked up the format, making the Phoenix-bred format less of a
novelty. There are a few solid stations for hip-hop in town, but we really like the
unique playlist on The Beat, built around hits from the golden age of rap and featuring
such artists as Pac, Biggie, Dre, and Snoop. And, sure, we like a little Warren Hill,
some Fresh Prince, and a little R. Kelly in there, too. The Beat is good-time music
and always manages to make us smile as we flip by for a few seconds on a long
commute.
