The Center for
Architecture
New York City
cfa.aiany.org
The Center for Architecture is
a destination for all interested
in the built environment.
It is home to the American Institute of Architects
New York Chapter and the Center for Architecture
Foundation, vibrant nonprofit organizations that
provide resources to both the public and building
industry professionals. Through exhibitions,
programs, and special events, the Center aims
to improve the quality and sustainability of the
built environment, foster exchange between the
design, construction, and real estate communities,
and encourage collaborations across the city and
globe. The Center also celebrates New York’s
vibrant architecture, explores its urban fabric,
shares community resources, and provides
opportunities for scholarship. As the city’s leading
cultural institution focusing on architecture, the
Center drives positive change through the power
of design.
Exhibitions
Exhibitions at the Center for
Architecture present excellence
in architecture, design, and
urbanism.
Three times a year the Center mounts
thematic exhibitions in its galleries,
engaging the design community, the
general public, and the next generation
of architects, engineers, and designers
in conversation about the built environment. These
extensive exhibitions highlight the global and multidisciplinary nature of design practice and the many
ways that architecture can impact people’s lives.
Spotlights on provocative New York City projects
and innovative competitions rotate monthly in a
street-front window gallery. These exhibitions of
“work in progress” offer a platform for discussion
and debate on the role of architecture in our
communities.
Annual and biennial exhibitions showcase the
Center for Architecture’s professional and academic
design communities. The Design Awards, New York
Now, New Practices, Emerging New York Architects
(ENYA), Arch Schools, and Building Connections
exhibitions all feature work at the forefront of
contemporary design and architectural education.

Programs
The Center for Architecture
hosts hundreds of programs
every year, reaching thousands
of architects, related
professionals, students,
families, and architectural
enthusiasts.
Programs range from topical lectures to
international showcases, exhibition-related panels
to technical training, competition presentations
to professional symposia. Center programs
provide professional development opportunities
for architects, communicate the importance of
design excellence to the general public, and engage
broad audiences in issues important not only to
the architectural profession, but to any growing
community. aiany.org/calendar
Membership
aiany.org/membership
Membership to the Center for
Architecture is open to all.
While the Center has grown out of a professional
society—the American Institute of Architects has
represented the professional interests of architects
since 1857—the Center for Architecture welcomes
everyone interested in architecture and design to
join its ever-growing community.
To accommodate the wide range of people
using the Center for Architecture, membership
is available for architects, allied professionals,
students, supporters of educational programs,
and the general public. For design professionals,
membership offers continuing education and
professional development resources. Public
membership connects design enthusiasts to one
of the most vibrant architectural communities
in the world. At every level, Center membership
provides access to the programs of the Center for
Architecture.
Support

Every year, the Center for Architecture attracts
thousands of visitors to its exhibitions, events,
lectures, and educational programming. These
activities would not be possible without the
generosity of supporters of the AIA New York
Chapter and the Center for Architecture Foundation.
Whether it is celebrating design excellence at the
Center’s annual Design Awards Luncheon and
Heritage Ball, contributing to a special exhibition,
joining the Center as a corporate member, or simply
making a donation, there are many ways to sponsor
the Center for Architecture’s valuable exhibitions
and programs while raising your profile in the
design community.

With galleries on three floors, a lecture hall, library,
and training center, the Center for Architecture
provides a unique venue to experience architecture
and multidisciplinary design programs. Since
opening in 2003, the Center has hosted thousands
of events and meetings in its 15,000-square-foot
facility. High ceilings, natural light, and geothermal
technology, in a distinctive space in the heart of
Greenwich Village, make the Center the perfect
place to hold design-related events.
