PoaCure Applications at Callippe Preserve Golf Course
PoaCure Applications at Callippe Preserve Golf Course Two Experimental sites were created to provide results for two different application rates of PoaCure. Both sites have 20%-50% Poa annua. They are predominantly ‘Dominant Plus’ Creeping Bentgrass. They are 8 year old greens built to USGA specifications. The greens have very little disease and weed pressure (other than the Poa annua). All applications were made with a backpack sprayer using a brown flat fan “no –drift” Solo nozzle (2.5 mm). This brown nozzle put out slightly more product on the sides, so for one application, we used a red flat spray jet nozzle (E04-80). It was determined that 100 ounces of spray covered 1000 square feet. One person made each of the applications. Site One is located on the lower corner of our putting green. The area is about 1500 square feet. We applied the PoaCure at 0.6 ounces per 1000 square feet. Three total applications were made with 0.9 ounces of PoaCure in 150 ounces of water. Site Two is located on the far half of our chipping green. The area is about 2000 square feet. We applied the PoaCure at 1.0 ounces per 1000 square feet. Three total applications were made with 2.0 ounces of PoaCure in 200 ounces of water. Neither site was aerified or verticut after the first PoaCure application was made. Greens are mowed at .115”-125”. 10/19/12 @ 10:00 am: First application of PoaCure to both sites. Site one was hand-watered in well. Site 2 had sprinklers run for 6 minutes. 10/30 12: Greens Application: Ferrous Sulfate (8 oz/k)/Ammonium Sulfate (.09 oz N/k) /3336 (4 oz/k)/Terreplex (1.47 oz/k) 11/1/12 @ 9:30 am: Second application of PoaCure to both sites. Hand-watered in both sites well. *We noted some yellowing of Poa on Site 2, especially near the edges and where some overlap may have occurred. 11/8/12: Greens Application: Primo Maxx (.13 oz/k)/Quicksilver (2 oz/A) 11/12/12: Greens Application: Instrata (5.5 oz/k) 11/16/12 @ 11:00 am: Third application to both sites. Site 1 had application with same nozzle and was hand-watered in. For Site 2, we tried another nozzle, a red flat spray jet nozzle (E04-80) to reduce the over-application on the sides. The same rate was applied. The green was then hand-watered in. *We noted considerable yellowing and thinning on Site 2 and some slight yellowing on Site 1. In both areas, the bentgrass was unharmed and appeared healthy. 11/27/12: Greens Application: Ferrous Sulfate (6 oz/k)/ Ammonium Sulfate (.12 oz N/k)/ Quicksilver (4 oz/A) 12/18/12: Greens Application: Ammonium Sulfate (.12 oz N/k) 1/8/13: Greens Application: Ferrous Sulfate (4 oz/k)/ Ammonium Sulfate (.12 oz N/k) 1/23/13: Greens Application: Ferrous Sulfate (6 oz/k)/ Ammonium Sulfate (.12 oz N/k)/ Instrata (5.5 oz/k) Site One is located on the lower corner of our putting green. The area is about 1500 square feet. We applied the PoaCure at 0.6 ounces per 1000 square feet. Three total applications were made with 0.9 ounces of PoaCure in 150 ounces of water. 11/9/12: After two applications 12/10/12: After three applications Site Two is located on the far half of our chipping green. The area is about 2000 square feet. We applied the PoaCure at 1.0 ounces per 1000 square feet. Three total applications were made with 2.0 ounces of PoaCure in 200 ounces of water. 1st Row: 10/26/12 (1 app) 2nd Row: 11/9/12 (2 apps)
