Camp Brosig Leader’s Guide www.shac.org/brosig Camp Brosig is available to all registered units for weekend camping year round. With 20 campsites, a large covered pavilion and meeting room available for your use, it is the ideal place to hold your next event. Kitchen facilities are available for an additional fee. This 92 acre property is located 6 miles north of Sealy, TX, in Austin County, was dedicated on April 17, 1982. The camp was made possible through a bequest from Alva Brosig in 1981. Register: Reservations are accepted up to 12 months in advance. Register at www.shac.org/brosig Questions: brosig@shac.org Directions: Camp Brosig is located at 1893 Trenckmann Road, Sealy, TX 77474. From Houston: Take I-10 to Sealy Texas, exit at State Highway 36 this is a hairpin loop exit. You pass over highway 36 on I-10 before you exit so you come into Hwy 36 from the west. From the first red light after exiting at Highway 36 turn left (north) onto Highway 36. Go thru town approximately 5.1 miles until you pass the intersection of Farm Road 331. Christian City Church is on the left, soon after is Trenckmann Road on the left. Go 1.6 miles on Trenckmann Road to Camp Brosig. The camp gate is on the left (south) side of road. Main asphalt road will take you to the check-in building, the first building on your left. Approximate time from Houston is one hour. From Hempstead/Bellville: Take FM 159 from Hempstead to Bellville. After crossing the railroad tracks in Bellville take an immediate left at the first light on to State Highway 36 continue for approximately 6 miles to Farm Road 949. Turn right onto Farm Road 949 and follow this road to the first road to the left. This will be Trenckmann Road and the camp gate entrance will be approximately ½ mile on your right. The camp gate is on the right (south) side of road. Main asphalt road will take you to the check-in building, the first building on your left. Approximate time from Hempstead 30 minutes. Fees: Sam Houston Area Council Units are charged a $2.00 per person per weekend usage fee and out-of-council units are charged a $3.00 per person per weekend usage. Kitchen and meeting room usage fee is $75.00. Units furnish their own cooking equipment. Gate Access: A camp ranger or campmaster will meet you to obtain access to the property at 3:00 pm and to unlock the gate and turn on the water to the facility and provide any needed keys. ° SHAC Ranger / Steve Stolzer 832-522-0030 ° Campmaster / Russell Williams 832-816-3694 Additional Keys: Keys on red lanyard, hanging on hook inside meeting room, will unlock registration trailer and first aid room. Kitchen key is in additional key locker at kitchen entrance. If you have reserved the kitchen, you will be given this code. Rangers: A SHAC ranger will be available at Camp Brosig at 3:00 pm on Fridays. Brosig typically has a SHAC ranger and campmaster available on the weekends. Fires: Campfires are permitted in the designated fire rings. If Camp Brosig is under a fire ban, you will be informed in the email cover sheet. Gasoline, diesel fuel and other liquids are not to be used to start fires. Please keep fires low and reduce sparks in windy conditions. Have water available to extinguish fire. Fires should be monitored at all times and put out cold before leaving your campsite or going to bed. Barn: Ask volunteer staff for access to equipment stored in the red barn. Trash: You are responsible for taking all trash you accumulate during your stay to the dumpster located at the front entrance. You cannot burn your trash. All trash must be in a bag and inside the dumpster. If trash will not fit inside the dumpster, you MUST take it with you. Trash MAY NOT be stacked outside the dumpster or on top of the dumpster. Please remember to check restrooms and other areas you may have used, and remove all trash. Animals will make a mess of trash left in camp. Camp Brosig has recycle bins located near the red barn for aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Please empty liquids, leave caps off and crush bottles. Rosters: Complete an attendance roster and turn in to your campmaster or ranger by Saturday 10AM. Shelters: Shelters in the camping area are on a first come first serve basis Restrooms: Four latrines are located in the camping area. Event staff should provide toilet paper and hand wash soap. Please leave the latrines cleaner than you found them. Needed repairs: If you find camp has been vandalized, had unauthorized use, or damaged in any way contact a SHAC Ranger IMMEDIATELY. CAMP BROSIG RULES 1. Speed Limit is 5 miles per hour. Place your “Parking Pass” on your dashboard. 2. Keep vehicles on the road for unloading at campsites. 3. Vehicles are not allowed in campsites. After unloading, promptly move vehicles to the parking lots. 4. Do not cross any fences as you will no longer be on camp property. 5. Do not dig holes, climb or cut trees. 6. Do not use water troughs in latrines for washing dishes. Grease and debris will clog the drains. Tour plan is not required for camping on SHAC property 2. Two Deep Leadership Required For All Trips and Outings Two registered adult leaders, or one registered leader and a parent of a participating scout or other adult, One of whom must be at least 21 years of age or older, are required for all trips or outings. 3. Chemical Fuels The use of liquid fuels for starting any type of fire is prohibited. 4. Transportation Seat Belts are required for all occupants Passengers may not ride on the rear deck of a station wagon, bed of a truck or running boards. Trucks may not be used for transporting passengers except in the cab Trailers must never be used for carrying passengers 5. Trash- Garbage Trash and Garbage should not be buried. All rubbish that cannot be burned is to be placed in a Tote litter bag and placed in the nearest recognized trash disposal. 6. Damage To Equipment and Facilities Report all lost or broken equipment to Camp Ranger 7. Bikes All cyclists must wear a properly sized and fitted helmet 8. For added safety, courtesy, and respect for others please follow these camp rules Fires: Must Be Attended at All Times Extinguished Before Leaving Camp No Liquid Accelerants Vehicles must receive a “Parking Pass” upon arrival and place on dashboard. Speed Limits are 5 mph in campsites areas. Pets are not allowed in camp except for ADA service animals. Check In is after 3 pm on Fridays and Check Out is before 11 am on Sundays. Please stay on roadways. Do not drive into campsite. Unload promptly and proceed to parking lots. You need to haul all trash to the dumpster located outside the front entrance. You cannot burn your trash. All trash must be inside the dumpster or carried home with you. We incur extra charges if trash is left on top or to the side of the dumpster. Ground fires should be in designated fire rings only. Please keep small in windy conditions. Campsites, shelters and picnic tables in the camping area are on a first come, first serve basis. Please leave the latrines cleaner than you found them. Do not wash dishes in the latrine wash pans. Food debris and grease will clog the pipes. Last vehicle to leave please make sure the main water valve is off and gate is locked securely.
