Crochet Traditions Magazine: Well, it just seems to
Crochet Traditions Magazine: Well, it just seems to be the month for new magazines! The latest edition of Crochet Traditions arrived this week and it has some great articles on the historical origins of many of the different types of crochet along with some great period pictures and then updated patterns for each of the following types of crochet: Irish, Tapestry, Filet, Bead, Tunisian, Hairpin, Lace and Basic. Lots of very unusual projects to choose from! New in the store this week Malabrigo: We have placed a regular order with our sales rep for Malabrigo but, as you know, the best guarantee for us to get it in is just to order what they currently have in stock! This week we received their Chunky weight in colors Emerald Blue, Buscando Azul and Azul Bolita; Rios in Black, Purpuras, Primavera and Compasita, and Sock in Ravelry Red, Abril, Archangel and Indiecita. Just in case you are unfamiliar with Malabrigo Rios, it is Malabrigo's Superwash worsted weight wool. We talked Lynne Little into letting us keep her gauge swatch for the Swirl Coat that she is making in Rios Purpuras so everyone could see how beautifully it knit up. Lynne says that it knits like a dream! Malabrigo Chunky Malabrigo Rios Malabrigo Sock Cascade: Heritage Sock Yarn! This is a great "standard" yarn for socks or other projects and it's price point can't be beat at $12 a skein for the solid colors, $17 for the Handpaints, and $12.50 for the Quatro (marled grey and brown in picture below). Cascade Heritage Solids Cascade Heritage Quatro and Handpaints Shaefer Susan Yarn: This great yarn has come in from Shaefer and we have extra because of the Undulating Waves class that we had last Saturday! With 470 yds per skein, you can't go wrong making any scarf or shawl, most take less than one skein! Or, sign up for the next Susan Undulating Waves Scarf class and have your pick of these wonderful colors! You can find lots of examples on Ravelry. NFL is ON! Again! Guess that means it is time to start knitting about those Panther scarves and hats! I had a brainstorm and am using the color combination show below with the Fair Isle Hat pattern from this years FYC series! Look for it on the needles next week! Gary's Green Thumb My husband has been spending so much time helping at the store that, much to my dismay, we do not have a garden this year. But the green thumb has re-asserted itself in the form of a Bonsai tree here at the store that is already putting out these fabulous flowers even though I thought it was dead for sure when it arrived a few weeks ago via UPS (upside down and having traveling in what had to be a 150 degree truck)! In the Hood Eco-Licious, a new shop featuring environmentally friendly, cruelty free and locally made products for you and your home, had its grand opening this weekend. They are located on Commonwealth Avenue about 100 yards away from our back alley exit! Read all about them on their website, or like them on facebook! http://ecoliciouscharlotte.com/ On Our Needles... In all our organizing of the new layout, we ran across some yarn we had temporarily forgotten about! One Skein of Rowan Big Wool makes the fabulous Pillar Openwork Neck Cozy that Purl is wearing this week! The pattern is free and calls for size 15 or 17 needles, and Nancy finished it in one afternoon! We only have a few balls in black and brown, but they are on sale this week for 20% off! Put a blue/teal button on a black Pillar Cozy and you have an Instant Panther's Scarf! This pattern works great for any chunky yarn and knits up super fast! Take a look at past projects "on our needles" for fun and inspiration! A quick update on upcoming classes at Baskets of Yarn: Elizabeth Sweater...starts on this Saturday, so this week is your last chance to get in.
