Buying a Prom Dress Top Tip
Chose a dress that’s right for
your figure.
Pear shaped frame . The best look
is
something with a fitted top and a full skirt. This
is the best way to downsize the hips and the
behind. We recommend looking for a Ball
Gown.
Tall and Slender Frame. Almost
any style can look great on you; your biggest
concern is giving the illusion of curves and this
can e achieved with a mermaid style dress that
bells out at the bottom.
Short and Petite Frame. It is best
to stay away from puffy ball gowns because they
tend to over whelm you. The best look for
your body type is a short sassy hemline.
Busty Frame. It is best to make sure
that you have enough support to move and
dance throughout the night.
We suggest going with a Halter style dress
because this will draw attention away from your
chest and still show all your best assets.
Be Honest about your size !!
It is really common to go up a size or two in
evening wear and the dresses come from all
over the world. Who cares what size you are
any way as long as you look a million dollars.
Budget. Have an idea on how much you
want to spend. Savings club available at Posh
Frocks
Style . It is fine to wear a short dress to a
prom, or to be more traditional, a long prom
dress.
Alterations. Most Prom dresses need
altering in some way. Bear this in mind when
budgeting for your dress.
Dress fitting. Remember to take the
shoes and underwear you are planning to wear
Prom Queen.
Remember that your school prom
only happens once. This is a chance
to look and feel gorgeous and stand
out from the crowd !

News from Epworth County Primary School
Epworth Primary school has a new Headteacher, Mr John Hodgkins, who started
in January this year. He reports that he has settled in very well in the school and
has been impressed by the friendliness of the staff and children at the school. He
is keen to see the school at the heart of the community and develop community
links.
One of the links developed this year has been the work undertaken by Year 5
children along with children from other local schools to write a book with local
author, John Haden entitled, "The Wesleys of Epworth". The children played an
active part in the formal book launch at the Wesley church earlier in February,
stewarding for the launch and introducing some of the speakers.
Groups of Infant and Junior children took part in the South Axholme 'Wake and
Shake' Dance Festival with other local schools. The children made up and
performed aerobic style dances to music of their choice. They all enjoyed the
event and represented the school very well. The Junior group won their event
with their dance to the Black Eyed Peas hit 'pump it' and go through to a regional
final in Scunthorpe in March.
All the children made the most of the recent snow. For most of the children it
will have been the first time in several years there was enough snow to play with.
They rolled giant snowballs and made snowmen on the field.
The school's website is regularly updated so for more news of the
school and our weekly newsletter, Epworth Express please click on

POLICE NEWS..............................
PC 1839 Tina Starbuck has now become the Axholme Central Neighbourhood
Officer, after PC Cook has hung his uniform up for the last time and looking
forward to his retirement from Humberside Police, we wish him all the best for the
future.
PC Starbuck has worked on the Isle of
Axholme previously and is a very experienced
officer, having served both in the Metropolitan
and Humberside Police for the last 25
years. She is looking forward to the
challenges ahead, and will hope to meet with
as many as she can in the coming months.
A more community based issue has been
raised concerning the increase in litter being
deposited at the Thurlow Playing Area,
Epworth. The park and its facilities are for all
the community to use and so for the few that
disregard this please ensure that you dispose of litter correctly.
Youths in vehicles continue to congregate at Belton Picnic area and Kings Head
Croft Car Park. The vehicles appear at varying times of the day and use the area
around the toilets at Belton Picnic area as a race track and have damaged fencing
and gates in the process. Again at Kings Head Croft car park vehicle are
damaging fencing in order to go off road. Both areas are well used the members of
the public and police are patrolling the two areas daily and will deal with any
offences positively. There has already been a bike seized under Section 165 of
the Road Traffic Act 1988 in the Belton Picnic area, and in the coming months is is
likely to see an increase in this type of activity, so please bear this in mind when
purchasing an off road bike that you conform to all legal requirements in order to
enjoy this pastime.
You can contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 for non-emergency calls. If
you feel uncomfortable in calling the police then please consider contacting
Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. When contacting Crimestoppers you do not
have to give your name and you may be eligible for a cash reward
Working with Pc Starbuck is your Police Community Support Officer Stewart
Pearson, who regularly patrols the Central area of the Isle and will be happy to
discuss any community issues with you. Please feel free to stop and speak with
him or alternatively contact either of us via the above telephone number.
The police station at Epworth also provides a front counter service for two days a
week, Tuesday and Thursday, between 9am and 3pm.
Thankyou

Jogging and Running – Getting Started
If you are thinking about taking up jogging or running for the first time, you may have a few doubts: will I
have the time, will I really get that much fitter, can I do it, is it going to be hard, can I find the time, am I
going to damage my knees.
It’s certainly worth asking yourself a few questions, just to determine what
goals you need to be setting yourself. But don’t allow this to put you off. Your
goals might be;
To improve my general health and combat potential heart disease.
Help in controlling my weight. Building a stronger physique,
bones and muscles. To run a marathon. To have fun and make
friends. Improve your self and time management skills
Running certainly isn’t the only way you can exercise to get fitter and benefit
your health, but it is one of the most convenient. A pair of shoes, a bit of kit
and some paths, roads or trails are all you really need. It’s worth visiting your GP prior to commencing
your exercise, particularly if you are aware of any condition which may raise a question in your mind.
How much and how often:
People start running at all stages of life. Whether your start your new regime for first time or if you’ve run
before but have taken a long break, the key is to start off with a short duration and at a pace you feel
comfortable with. 20 minutes, 3 times per week is a general rule. Then start to very gradually increase the
duration of your runs a little at a time each week, but without increasing the intensity or speed of your
runs. The general rule would be to jog and walk at the beginning of your programme and increase the
amount of jogging over walking. Always finish your run feeling as though you could have done a bit more.
You don’t have to run yourself into the ground!
Next month … Jogging and Running and making progress Regards Julian (Metres to Miles)

A North Lincolnshire theatre group “The Beltonians” performed
their new musical “Greys”, a pastiche on the musical “Grease” last month at Belton
Public Hall and received great reviews. “Greys” was written by Keith Skelton of
Gunthorpe who was a patient at Weston Park at
the time.
Whilst penning the musical, Keith’s consultants
took an interest and so with encouragement it was
decided that the musical should be performed in
Sheffield with all monies going to Weston Park
Hospital Cancer Charity.
(Two ladies in the show all ready
for a “night out on the town”.
Bents Green Church Hall, Sheffield was booked for Saturday 15th November 2008
and “The Beltonians” were eager to help Keith raise funds for Weston Park. They
were also keen to show their talent and agreed to break from rehearsing their
latest pantomime to put on the show.
Overcoming several logistical problems, not the least transporting musical director
Parry Jenkins’ electric organ, keyboard, speakers and amplifier from Wroot to
Sheffield and chairman Alan Lenton forgetting to load props, “The Beltonians”
triumphed with a magical performance which had the locals rocking with laughter.
After presenting Lyndsey Raynor of Weston Park Hospital with a cheque for £400
she said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone involved in “Greys”, especially
Keith for such a contribution. “The Beltonians” are such generous supporters and
we would like to thank them all for all they have done. Groups like this are the
lifeblood of our charity: they work so hard, have fun, entertain people and also
raise vital funds to support cancer research and improve treatment and care for
patients in our region. Contributions like this help keep Weston Park at the
forefront of cancer care in the UK.”
“The Beltonians” are proud to have performed “Greys” especially written for them
by Keith Skelton and to have helped the Hospital in such a tangible way:
The Beltonians” with the
presentation cheque of
£400 for “Weston Park
Hospital Cancer Charity”
(The cheque is held by
Keith Skelton and the
youngest member of the
group Jessica Martin )

The Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust
has been in existence since 1976. We have monthly indoor meetings from
October to May and have various other functions throughout the year. If you are
interested in wildlife and the countryside please come along and join us. All our
meetings are open to anyone, you don’t have to be a member of the Lincolnshire
Wildlife Trust. You can find information about us in the Arrow, the local press,
the Lincolnshire Trust website which has a link to the local
group- www.lincstrust.co.uk or by ringing Geoff (see below)
The next meeting of the Isle of Axholme group of the
Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will take place on
Thursday April 2nd when we will be having an
illustrated talk by Colin Smith entitled Magnificent
Moths. Many of us think of moths as little brown things
that flutter round the lights but when you look closely at
them you will find a huge variety of sizes, colours and patterns on their wings.
Many have a fascinating lifecycle too. Colin has spent a lot of his time studying
them, including those in our local area, and he will give us an illustrated talk on
these moths. We are hoping to follow this in the autumn with an evening on
Epworth Turbary attracting moths to a special light and we will let you know
further details later.
We meet at the new hall at the rear of Haxey Methodist Chapel starting at
7.30pm. There is a small admission charge of £1 and there is a raffle and
refreshments. Bird food is always on sale at the meetings as well as at Geoff’s
house in Belton. For further information about the local Trust
group and their meetings please contact Geoff or Chris Trinder
on 01427 872051.
We look forward to welcoming all regular
members and new visitors.

Mothers’ Day Poem
It’s nearly mothers’ day, go and get your mum
some flowers.
It’s nearly mothers’ day, get
prepared.
food and cakes
It’s nearly mothers’ day, appreciate what she does for you.
It’s nearly mothers’ day, I am sure she will like some chocolates.
It’s nearly mothers’ day, book a table at a fancy restaurant.
It’s nearly mothers’ day, do all the house work for her.
It’s nearly mothers’ day, get your mum something special.
It’s mothers’ day now, give her breakfast in bed.
But most of all be kind and sweet, give her a big kiss on her
cheek.

Haxey Theatre“MURDERED TO DEATH” AT HAXEY
Haxey Amateur Dramatic Society is busy once more with rehearsals for the next production,
“Murdered to Death”, a farce by Peter Gordon. Ann Booth directs again & is particularly pleased
that the cast includes some newcomers, as well as familiar faces.
The play, set in a country manor house in the 1930s, has a murder-strewn story line, and a
wonderfully eccentric set of characters.
Mildred Bagshot (Diane Corbett) is the wealthy estate owner, attended by her apparently demure
niece, Dorothy Foxton. Lynsey Yeardley makes her debut on the amateur stage as Dorothy.
No house such as this would be complete without a shambling butler and Colin Emery plays Bunting,
doddery at his best and shambolic after a tipple.
Joan Young is the redoubtable Mrs Margaret Craddock, outwardly respectability itself but not what
she seems at all. Colonel Charles Craddock (Peter Lindley) is her husband & the epitome of an
imperial military man, but appearances are deceptive again.
You may suspect that the villains of the piece will be the high society beauty, Miss Elizabeth HartleyTrumpington, and her French art dealer associate, Pierre Marceau. Chloe Dance appears for the
first time with the Society and gives an assured performance. John Spittlehouse is the shady crosschannel artful dodger.
Eileen Pearson returns as amateur sleuth, Miss Joan Maple (sound familiar?) and deftly portrays the
sometimes dotty, sometimes shrewd old girl.
The would-be professional detectives, trying to fathom the mystery of multiple murders, are
Constable Thompkins and Inspector Pratt. Trevor Bland, as Thompkins, plays an excellent straightman foil to Jeremy Cooper as the aptly named Inspector Pratt. Pratt is very reminiscent of a certain
Clouseau, and Jeremy’s performance of Peter Sellers.
For a really good evening’s entertainment, make sure you catch this hilarious show. The
performances are at 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th March and on Friday and
Saturday 3rd and 4th April in Haxey Memorial Hall. Tickets (£4) are on sale from
10.00-12 noon on Monday 2nd March

Take Five – A Quick Guide to Less Stressful Driving
Dear readers,
How long does it take you to get from A to B? If you are like most people, you
will know typical journey times for regular trips that you make. Phrases like "I
made great time", or "it only took me ..... to get to here today” are typical
comments we hear every day. We tend to judge the quality of a trip by how short
it is. In fact, we are creating our own time expectations and this puts us under
pressure when we can't meet them. To make matters worse, these are often self
imposed.
Over the next week actually time the same journey twice. On the first occasion,
drive as normal, trying not to go faster or slower than usual. The next time you
undertake the same trip, consciously drive in a more relaxed and less hurried
manner. If you compare the two journey times you will often find that, if your trip
was a relatively short one, the difference can be measured in – at most - minutes.
If the journey was two, three or even four hours, the difference is likely to be no
greater than twenty to thirty minutes.
Ask yourself how you feel after completing each trip. Is there any difference?
What is your stress level like? What have you done with all those precious
minutes you saved?
The chances are that you will feel more relaxed and refreshed after the second
trip. This is more likely to be that case if you accept that there are many things
outside your control - the weather, traffic delays due to accidents, road works or
simply traffic volumes. Fewer overtakes, less chance of mistakenly going too fast
through a speed camera – a more relaxed journey all round.
If things do go wrong, it is useful to focus on what you can do, rather than on
what you can't. If you have a mobile phone, you can ring ahead to explain that you
are delayed so that alternative plans can be made. In this situation the mobile
phone can be really useful: once that call has been made, you will drive in a more
composed way. The pressure is off if you have rung ahead to say you have been
delayed by a few minutes. Needless to say, that call should ideally be made when
you have pulled over somewhere convenient and legal – or at least from a handsfree unit.
If you are interested in further information regarding the courses that we offer,
you’ll be able to find this information on the Institute of Advanced Motorists
