Don’t let productivity slip away. Sure, huge breakdowns and line stoppages are dramatic and costly. But in truth, most threats to productivity are more subtle and insidious. Things like ineffective inventory management, poor furnace efficiency, balky handling systems, imprecise die ovens, and many others that detract from your line’s overall performance and cost you money. 4. The Granco Clark Hot Saw and Spinning Log Welder improves metal management. The Hot Saw cuts billets to the size needed just before the press, with lower pressure and no deformation. Blade area is kept clean and chips are removed quickly by the highefficiency chip collector, to be processed for reuse. Short, compensation-cut pieces are held for pairing with another piece to form the correct size billet, achieving 100% billet consumption. 1. Granco Clark’s Billet Sawing System lets you store large standardized logs, and cut them to the appropriate size needed on their way into the furnace. A clean, square cut, performed at room temperature. Less space and money tied up in inventoried logs. Log ends are fused together to form single billets using integrated Hot Saw and Spinning Log Welder technology. The Hot Saw cuts log ends to expose fresh surfaces. The Spinning Log Welder then pushes the pieces together under pressure and controlled rotation. And it all happens after the furnace where it can be done most efficiently. The process provides a more complete bond forming virtually seamless, uniform single billets—and increases yield 1–2%. 2. Granco Clark’s Hot-Jet Furnace is the most energy-efficient billet-heating furnace on the market, delivering an average thermal efficiency of 55%. A “hot-jet” preheat section captures and re-circulates exhaust gases. A pressurized entrance chamber blocks cold air from entering and keeps preheated gases in. 5. When integrated with the Hot-Jet Furnace, Granco Clark’s Quick-Cycle Log Shear uses high pressure to cut billets to size as needed at just the right time. The shear ring design and precision clamping system deliver a square cut with minimal deformation. Short, compensation-cut pieces are automatically transferred back to the furnace between shearing cycles—allowing 100% of the log to be consumed, with no scrap. 3. Granco Clark’s innovative Taper Quench compensates in advance for the heat buildup in the billet during extrusion. A high-pressure water quench subtracts heat selectively to create a computer-calculated temperature gradient to assure optimum temperature at the moment of extrusion. The Controlled Vertical Crush Stretcher delivers precise control of stretching to ensure the highest-quality profiles. It has a unique pivoting upper jaw that can be set to any closing dimension. This minimizes the distortion that can be caused by traditional jaw designs. Also available are Water Wall quenches, Overhead Duct Cooling Systems, and an Integral Runout Cooling System that places an adjustable stream of air from ducts located beneath the runout table, for excellent performance and maximum space efficiency. Granco Clark’s Automated Profile Handling Equipment helps maintain throughput and profile surface quality. Profiles are transferred smoothly from the runout conveyor to the cooling belt table, where heat dissipates easily. A series of low-temperature belts transports profiles through the stretching cycle and beyond. As the stretcher tailhead repositions itself to stretch extrusions of various lengths, belts extend or retract as needed. The saw-feed loading-belt system automatically receives extrusions from the stretcher, batches them, and feeds them into the saw to maximize throughput and minimize manpower requirements. 5 6 7 8 9 1 2 3 4 10. Granco Clark Pullers deliver even, twist-free profiles and reduce scrap by applying just the right amount of tension as the profile emerges from the die. The Granco Clark Double Puller features two puller heads on the same track, which allows it to seek the die mark and cut profiles on the fly. Tension is increased until the desired stretching pressure is achieved. 7. Granco Clark offers several types of 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Technologies that work—and work together. 1 The Granco Clark Extrusion Cutoff Saw is a large-capacity, high-performance saw that delivers extremely close tolerances and an excellent surface finish. The saw features a drop-down arbor design to eliminate backrake for improved cut quality. As an extrusion batch is fed through the saw, the saw gauge stop lowers automatically and the ends of the profiles line up against it. Granco Clark’s Automatic Profile Stacking and Destacking Systems allow profiles to move from cutting through aging without any manual handling. This translates into higher-quality profiles and higher throughput, while reducing labor requirements. Automated spacer distribution and collection systems pick up the spacers and places them in position. The stacker picks up the ends of the spacers and carries the profiles to the aging rack. After aging, the destacker unloads one layer of profile at a time onto a conveyor, and the spacers are released and collected for another cycle. 13. Granco Clark Age and Anneal Ovens feature high-volume air systems that bring loads to temperature quickly and uniformly. This maximizes throughput and ensures high-quality profiles of uniform hardness. Several models are available, including the double-end-flow age oven that features dual burners and fans that supply air to each end of the chamber, speeding up the process and improving temperature uniformity. 17 18 19 20 14. The Granco Clark Precision Finish Saw delivers an incredible degree of cutting accuracy. A unique dual clamping system holds profiles fast and prevents guillotining. The highly efficient hitch-feed system uses positive pressure to move profiles forward after cutting, improving cycle times and preventing backrake on the blade return.
