In 2013 Green Lane Masjid was invited by Islamic Relief to visit the humanitarian and war zone disaster of Idlib, in Syria. The purpose of the trip was to see how the funds raised in Ramadan 2013 at Green Lane Masjid were distributed and utilised. This trip was also important as it was used to identify the needs of the Syrian brothers and sisters. Islamwise also provides a comprehensive package of support to new Muslims. We provide a telephone helpline where reverts can contact us for help, advice, support and referral point for their spiritual, social and welfare needs. New Muslims can access a range of services covering welfare advice, homelessness advice, Islamic Q&A, regular classes, and social events. We also provide a mentoring service where new Muslims are partnered with a practicing Muslim. Brothers and sisters who may be supporting reverts can also contact us for help and advice. The services provided by the sisters include education, tarbiyyah, social welfare and youth services. The sisters hold a weekly youth club for girls aged 11 – 15 years old. tarbiyyah (islamic education), life skills, academic, recreational and much more is covered in a safe, halal and non-judgemental environment. Sisters at GLMCC Upon return to the UK, Green Lane Masjid decided to assemble a taskforce to begin work on long-term sustainable projects, as well as providing short term emergency aid to the people of Syria. Alhamdulillah, we were able to assemble a team that consisted of a group of people who where able to bring a wide range of skills and experience to the table, including those from the medical, charity, business and education sectors, project management, marketing and much more. In terms of long-term projects it was decided to focus on raising money to purchase medical supplies and equipment for hospitals in Syria, as our goal is to try and keep people alive first and foremost. For this project it was agreed that we would partner with Islamic Relief UK as they have access to over 150 Hospitals and medical points in Syria. Alhamdulillah, as well as having medical teams on the ground already in Syria with unrestricted access; we are able to offer a 100% donation policy on this project. Sisters coffee morning also takes place every Thursday (term time only), where sisters can unwind and relax in the company of each other whilst enjoying cakes and refreshments. We have a similar relaxed environment specifically for new Muslims in our new Muslims monthly gatherings, where all new Muslims and revert sisters are welcome.
