Player / Builder Inductees
Harry Nightingale
Harry Nightingale was involved in every aspect of lacrosse as a player,
coach, referee and an overall leader in the lacrosse community. Harry
was one of the best players of his time which spanned the 60s and 70s.
He was the top scorer in the Senior Lacrosse League in 1965 and 1967
and was selected as the league’s MVP in 1964 and 1967. His fine playing
abilities were obvious in his junior career, for which he will also be recognized as a member of the 1955 Manitoba Junior All-Stars team that
will be inducted into the Hall this year. Harry has provided invaluable
leadership in lacrosse throughout his career. He was President of the
Manitoba Lacrosse Association from 1964 to 1972, and has been active
in the Lacrosse Alumni. Harry has been the driving force behind the
formation of the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum, and
currently sits as President of the organization.
Sam Thompson
Sam Thompson played field lacrosse in the 1920s with the Winnipeg
Argonauts and won the scoring title several times during that period.
When box lacrosse was introduced in 1932, Sam and his Argonaut teammates played their way to the Mann Cup final in Toronto, emblematic of
the Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championship. Besides being an excellent player, Sam became the President of the Argonaut Amateur Athletic
Association which organized many sports in Winnipeg’s West End, including lacrosse, hockey, football, baseball and basketball.

Player Inductees
Clark Hicks
Clark Hicks was recognized as the top junior goaltender in the province
during the 1950s. He was selected to the all-star team which competed
for the Minto Cup in 1950 and 1951 where he starred in both series.
Clark continued his outstanding goalkeeping when he moved to play in
the Senior Lacrosse League. He was an extremely quick goaltender and
is remembered for making many unbelievable saves. Clark displayed
notable stick skills as well, making perfect passes to his teammates as
they broke for the opposition’s goal. Clark will also be recognized as
a member of the 1951 Manitoba Junior All-Stars team that will be inducted into the Hall this year.
Ralph Lyndon
Ralph Lyndon was a prominent multi-sport athlete in lacrosse, hockey
and football. During one year he played in three national championships, one for each sport. Ralph played on the Manitoba junior lacrosse
all-star teams in the Minto Cup playoffs in 1952, 53, 54, 55 and 56. The
1954 and 1955 Manitoba Junior All-Stars advanced to the final of the
Minto Cup, for which both teams will also be inducted into the Hall this
year. Ralph was recruited by B.C.’s Victoria Shamrocks Senior Lacrosse
Team following the 1955 series, but was prevented from joining them
when the Canadian Lacrosse Association refused to approve his move
from Manitoba. Ralph was a dominant player both offensively and defensively and was part of many provincial championship teams during
his lacrosse career. He was a prolific goal scorer in an era of many excellent lacrosse players and his name could always be found at or near the
top of the scoring leaders.

Player Inductees
Keith McLennan
Keith McLennan began his lacrosse career as a member of the Kelvin
Shamrocks pee wee team in 1967. With his great stick-handling and
goal-scoring abilities, it was obvious from the very beginning that he
was going to be an exceptional player. As a junior player with the Kelvin Terriers, Keith led his team to the provincial championship. Subsequently, he was selected to the all-star team which represented Manitoba
in the Founders Cup (emblematic of the Canadian Junior B Championship). Keith was the highest scoring junior player while performing
in a combined Winnipeg Junior-Senior league. Then, in 1990 he won
the league scoring title with 58 goals and 29 assists. Keith continued
his scoring prowess, capturing the scoring title again in 1992 and 1996.
Another chapter in Keith’s career began when field lacrosse was re-introduced to the province. In 1985 Manitoba’s all-stars won their first
Canadian Division 2 title at Toronto’s Lamport Stadium with Keith being chosen as MVP of the tournament. Manitoba repeated as Division
2 champions in 1986 and Keith was once again selected as the tourney’s
MVP. In 1987 Manitoba contested for the Division 1 title against many
of the country’s top field lacrosse players. Keith’s play was outstanding
throughout the competition, earning him a place on the tournament’s
all-star team.

2012 Induction Ceremony
Player Inductees
Bill Stearns
Bill Stearns is recognized as probably the best crease man to play in
his era, scoring so many of his goals with deceptive fakes and accurate
shooting from just outside the goal crease. Bill spent countless hours
practicing his skills at Kelvin Community Centre and was considered
to be one of the best stick-handlers of his time. He was consistently at
the top of the scoring statistics but, as the same time, was also seen as
a great defensive player. Bill played his junior years with the Winnipeg
North Stars. During the 1970s he graduated to the senior St. Boniface
Clubs where he was an important part of that team winning the provincial championship on several occasions during that period. Bill represented the province numerous times while playing on the Manitoba AllStar team, amazing opposing coaches and players from other provinces
with his offensive abilities.
Merrill “Butch” Wozniak
Butch Wozniak’s lacrosse career began in 1945 and continued until
1960. He was recognized as an all-round player with a terrific scoring
touch. Butch’s name could always be found at the top of the league’s
scoring leaders and he was awarded several scoring titles. He played on
three provincial all-star teams, 1951, 1952 and 1953. Butch will also be
recognized as a member of the 1951 Manitoba Junior All-Stars squad
that will inducted into the Hall this year. That was the first team from
the province to win the Western Canadian Lacrosse Championship, allowing them to advance to the finals of the Minto Cup competition.
Butch served as President of the Manitoba Lacrosse Alumni from 1986
to 2007, and continues to remain active with the organization. Currently, he sits as the First Vice-President of the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall
of Fame & Museum Inc.

2012 Induction Ceremony
Builder Inductees
Cliff Hamilton
Cliff Hamilton began playing lacrosse in a house league at the Kelvin
Community Club in 1944. Cliff was a nifty goal scorer as a forward.
He played through Winnipeg’s minor league system and was selected
as a member of the first provincial junior team to defeat a west coast
team, New Westminster Salmonbellies, in 1951. From there the team
advanced to the Minto Cup final against Ontario’s Mimico Mountaineers. Cliff will be also be recognized as a member of the 1951 Manitoba
Junior All-Stars team that will be inducted into the Hall this year. Following his playing career he began coaching teams in the city’s minor
lacrosse system, making appearances at CPAC, Kelvin, East St. Paul,
Chalmers and East Elmwood. In addition, Cliff refereed the game he
loved for many years at various levels. Cliff served as President of the
Manitoba Lacrosse Association for eight years following which, in collaboration with others, he took over the operation of the Manitoba Lacrosse Alumni. In Cliff’s honour, the Alumni have donated the Cliff
Hamilton Memorial Trophy, presented annually to the provincial pee
wee champions.
Tom O’Brien
Tom O’Brien had been actively involved in the lacrosse community in
Brampton, Ontario prior to moving to Winnipeg. In 1944 he took up
the challenge of restarting the city’s minor lacrosse system, effectively
enlisting many former coaches and players to assist with the task. In
the first year Tom approached the city’s community centres to promote
the addition of lacrosse to their summer programs. Subsequently, he
organized teams ranging from the bantam to juvenile level and provided training for coaches and referees. Then, in 1945 a junior team was

added to the mix. Within two years of launching Winnipeg’s minor
lacrosse system, Tom convinced the Canadian Lacrosse Association to
include Manitoba’s junior representative in the playoffs for the Minto
Cup, emblematic of Junior ‘A’ lacrosse supremacy in Canada. That set
the stage for the Manitoba Junior All-Stars advancing to the Minto Cup
finals in 1951, 1954 and 1955. Tom was President of the Manitoba Lacrosse Association from1944 to 1954. Concurrently, he served as President of the Canadian Lacrosse Association from 1950 to 1952. Despite
these considerable responsibilities, Tom continued to coach lacrosse,
fund-raise and maintain operation of the Deer Lodge Athletic Association.
Alan Parker
Alan began playing field lacrosse at 1960 and continued his involvement
in lacrosse as a player, coach, instructor or organizer over the next fifty
years, until 2010. Although Alan played at a high level, his greatest contributions to the game were in his coaching, teaching and organizing.
Al coached Junior High field lacrosse for several years during the 1980s.
He coached the Dakota Collegiate Field Lacrosse Team from 1993 to
1996, winning the Manitoba High School Championship in 1994 and
the League Championship in 1995. Alan’s accomplishments as an organizer/instructor are considerable: He served as Convenor for the West
Kildonan area in 1967; founded the Windsor Park Box Lacrosse League
in 1971; organized lacrosse tournaments for the St. Boniface elementary
schools; conducted clinics and workshops throughout the province as
Lacrosse Instructor for the Department of Tourism & Recreation in
the 1970s; founded the Winnipeg Minor Lacrosse League in 1988 and
served as Convenor until 1993. Alan was presented with the Canadian
Lacrosse Association Volunteer Award in 1990, was selected recipient
of the Sam K. Thompson Memorial Award by the Manitoba Lacrosse
Alumni and was honoured with Sport Manitoba’s Order of Sport Excellence Volunteer Service Award.

Team Inductees
1951, 1954 & 1955 Manitoba Junior All-Stars
The Manitoba All-Stars teams were comprised of the best Junior box
lacrosse players in the province. These three teams did not participate
in a league; rather the players competed on club teams and then were
selected to the provincial all-star team.
Players on the 1951, 1954 &1955 provincial junior all-star teams should
all be very proud of their accomplishments. To be successful they had
to win the big games . . . which they did, being crowned Western Canadian Lacrosse Champions in 1951 and 1955, and Eastern Canadian
Lacrosse Champions in 1954. The All-Stars appearance in three Minto
Cup Junior ‘A’ box lacrosse finals is unmatched in Manitoba lacrosse
history.
The Minto Cup
The Minto Cup, a beautiful silver cup
donated by Lord Minto, then Governor-General of Canada in 1901, was
originally presented for senior competition and was emblematic of the
Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championship. In 1937 the Minto Cup was
placed into competition for junior box
lacrosse teams and is now emblematic
of the Canadian Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse
Championship

Western Canadian Jr. ‘A’ Lacrosse Champions
The Manitoba Junior All-Stars captured the province’s first Western Canadian Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse Championship in 1951, defeating
the British Columbia representative in a three-game series. After
winning the opener by a 12 to 8 score, the Manitobans dropped a
close 8 to 9 decision in game two. Manitoba rallied to defeat B.C.
10 to 9 in the hard-fought third and deciding game. The team
made history, carrying Manitoba’s colours into the Dominion
lacrosse final for the first time where the All-Stars met the Eastern
representative, the Mimico Mountaineers, for the Minto Cup.

rebounded to win the third game 7 to 6 and the right to move on to Vancouver and play for the Minto Cup. Goalkeeper Mike Tymchyshyn was a
