It is said that the ancestors of Māori, including the Polynesians
of ancient history, welcomed Matariki by flying kites (pākau).
Many Matariki celebrations now involve making and flying kites.

Georgia, a Wellingtonian studying Classical
Voice Performance and French at the
University of Otago, is off on a university
exchange to Paris in August 2013.
To help fund her studies in Paris and London,
she has put together this concert.
Join Georgia and friends for a winter’s afternoon of beautiful song and
entertainment, followed by social drinks and nibbles. Repertoire will
include arias by Donizetti, Gounod, Mozart and Verdi, as well as art
songs, oratorio, and a couple of favourite duets.

PRESBYTERY RESOURCING OCCASION

“New ways of being church for this new season”.
Facilitator: The Rev Martin Stewart, St Stephen’s Christchurch
Martin was Moderator of Christchurch Presbytery at the time of the
earthquakes and he and Anne share ministry at St Stephen’s, Bryndwr
and have been exploring a variety of ways of being “church” in their
suburb.
The decision has since been made to demolish St Stephen’s, Bryndwr.
They and the people of both St Stephen’s and St Giles’, Papanui and
the parents and students attending St Andrew’s College are now
exploring new ways of being church for this new time.
We in congregations in Wellington Presbytery face some similar but
also some different challenges - so this is one of a series of
opportunities we will be arranging for people from our congregations
to come and share, to explore, and possibly discern ways that we can
address some of our future challenges.

THE COST AND CHALLENGE OF CHILD POVERTY

EXPERIENCING THE CONTEMPLATIVE WAY - JUNE 2013
A “retreat in daily life” working with the prayer practice of meditation
or “prayer of silence”. Participants will commit themselves to meditate
for 30 minutes each day and then meet with a spiritual companion at
the beginning and end of the week to reflect on their experience. We
will meet together as a group on Sunday 23 June 4pm in the afternoon,
Wednesday evening at 7pm and conclude with a meeting on Friday
evening at 7pm.

Venue: St Andrew’s on The Terrace, (upstairs- sorry not accessible for
those with limited mobility yet!)

BOOKFAIR TIME AGAIN

“The DCM Bookfair is the largest of its kind
in Wellington. With some 90,000 books, as well as CDs, DVDs, vinyl,
books and puzzles, it’s a BIG event, and one which would not be the
success it is without our wonderful volunteers. Thank you for the part
you’ve played in the past, and the support you’ve given DCM.
DCM is a small organisation, but we’re working on some of the biggest
problems facing Wellington city. We support the most vulnerable people
in our city to break the depressing cycle of life on the street. And we
have a big vision – we firmly believe that by working together, we can
end homelessness in our city.
The 2013 DCM Bookfair will be held at the TSB Bank Arena on the
weekend of 17 and 18 August. We need volunteers to assist with settingup on Friday, 16 August, at the fair itself on 17 and 18 August and with
clearing up on the Sunday afternoon/early evening.
