Library and IT Services VPN client of Cisco systems is licensed software and Tilburg University puts this software exclusively at the disposal of students and staff of Tilburg University. Before starting the VPN connection be sure that your internet is active. This guideline exist of three sections to set up the VPN connection and a troubleshoot section. These sections are: • Configuring the Cisco VPN client • Starting the Cisco VPN client • Troubleshooting Configuring the Cisco VPN client This is a preconfigured installation, all settings are already done. If you want to check if the settings are correct, below is a summary of the settings. • Click on Modify. August 2011 1 Library and IT Services – Troubleshooting Tilburg University After clicking on this you will see the following screen: At tab Authentication • • The IP address of the UvT VPN server is: 137.56.127.10 At Group Access Information: o Name = UvT-off-campus o Password = working-off-campus August 2011 2 Library and IT Services – Troubleshooting Tilburg University At tab Transport Default the options Enable Transparant Tunneling and Allow Local LAN Access are not selected. Only select them when the connection doesn't seem to work, see for more information the section Troubleshooting. August 2011 3 Library and IT Services – Troubleshooting Tilburg University Troubleshooting If the VPN connection is not working after a correct installation you can check the following things: • • • Check the Internet Security software. Check your Router. Check the firewall. Check the Internet Security software Internet Security software (Norton, McAfee, AVAST, etc.) is blocking your VPN. Enable (allow) your VPN connection in this software. • Try to find the configuration page. • Try to add or accept the UvT VPN to the allowable list of software. • For detailed information on how to unblock the VPN, check the manual of your software. LIS does NOT give support with this problem. If one of these programs is blocking the VPN connection (you can check this by disabling each one of those), you will have to fix this yourself. Because there are too many different kind of Internet Security software programs, we have no knowledge of how to do this with each programs. Check your Router Your router is blocking the VPN connection. • Open the router port 500. • For detailed information on how to open the port, check the manual of your router. LIS does NOT give support with this problem. If your router is blocking the VPN connection, you will have to fix this yourself. Because there are too many different routers, we have no knowledge of how to do this on each router. If you don't know how to open the router port 500, you have to contact your own internet provider or the person who installed the router at your home. August 2011 4 Library and IT Services – Troubleshooting • Tilburg University If you still have problems with your VPN connection, then select the option in the tab Transport Enable Transparant Tunneling and/or Allow Local LAN Access. Check the following screen: Check the firewall A firewall is blocking the VPN. • For Windows Firewall: check the exceptions list (other firewalls could have a different definition). • If VPN isn't available in your exceptions list select your VPN via C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\ipsecdialer.exe LIS does NOT give support with this problem. If your firewall is blocking the VPN connection, you will have to fix this yourself. Because there too many different firewall programs, we have no knowledge of how to do this on each firewall program. August 2011 5
