Cherishing Wisconsin’s Outdoors!
Last year the Natural Resources Foundation embarked on a bold new undertaking, and launched
the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund. Donations to the Fund will provide habitat management for
our state-managed conservation lands, such as State Parks, State Natural Areas, State Wildlife
Areas & State Fishery Areas. In celebration of the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund, we are
highlighting with a special symbol Field Trips on lands that could benefit from the Fund. The
Foundation is excited to embark on this new adventure, and we hope you are too.
We have 150 Field Trips this year — that’s 30 more than last year, with space for an additional
500 participants. We hope to see you out in the field, so we can learn more about Wisconsin, and
cherish it… together!
Costs & Fees:
We try to keep costs low & use your
dollars wisely. Trip fees help fund the
Field Trip Programs (coordination, staff,
printing, postage, and more). Some
trips are also fundraisers for important
conservation projects.
Children on trips:
“Family Friendly” trips are most suitable
for children of the age recommendation
listed, and thus child’s fees are noted.
Children are welcome on all trips for $6
less than the adult fee listed, and must
be accompanied by adults.
Colored trip titles:
Please double-check that a trip is a good
fit for you. We want to make sure you
are safe and comfortable. Trip title colors
indicate their physical ratings. See page
1 for details.

• Please limit your registration to four trips.
• You may register up to 5 guests.
• Only register for one canoe/kayak trip per
person due to high demand.
• Please don’t register for trips you have
done in the past.

Family-Friendly: One of the greatest gifts we can
give our children is an appreciation for nature. All

trip. Child-friendly trips are identified with

Birds: Learn the science of bird conservation by
banding, surveying, and photographing Wisconsin’s
many birds. All of our birding trips are
identified with this symbol:
SNAs: Experience Wisconsin’s precious
wilderness gems, our State Natural Areas (SNAs),
guided by the conservationists who help
protect them. All of our SNA trips are
indicated with this symbol:

Fifty years ago the Bark River was moved
from its original course as part of a farm
drainage project. Thanks to the Wetland
Reserve Program, the river floodplain has

11. Badger Army Ammunition Plant: History, Nature & Future
Enjoy a rare tour inside the BAAP to discover
how this ever-changing piece of land has
passed through time: from vast prairie, to old
European farmsteads, to a large ammunitions
plant during WWII. Now that most buildings

site—balancing human needs & biodiversity

Take a Long Walk for Birds
Last year, Milwaukee’s Bill Mueller walked 246 miles from Lake Michigan to the
Mississippi River and raised $10,000. This year, Bill doubled his goal – to $20,000 –
and he’d like a little help! Volunteers can sign up to walk any part of a route from the
Illinois state line in Kenosha County to the Michigan line in Marinette County.
Proceeds from the Great Wisconsin Birdathon will support: the second Wisconsin
Breeding Bird Atlas, Bird City Wisconsin, Important Bird Areas, Wisconsin Stopover
Initiative, reforestation of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, Wisconsin’s bird monitoring
program and recovery of whooping cranes & Kirtland’s warblers in the state.

Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund was
created to last lifetimes because our precious lands, waters, and wildlife must last
lifetimes. The Fund debuted in September 2013, and already more than 5,600 people
across the state have donated more than $16,000 to the Fund. The need is great, and
every donation...from $10 to $1,000 or more...will make a big difference for Wisconsin.

Steps to Register for Field Trips:
1 Check your membership status! We’ve marked the address label on this booklet.

If it says:
• Renew Today! You must renew your membership at the $25 level or greater in order to
register for trips. Simply make your renewal payment when you register for trips, or renew
anytime at wisconservation.org
• Thank You! You do not need to renew at this time, your membership is current.
• Join us! Please consider becoming a member to join us on field trips. Become a member
during your online field trip registration and receive a discounted membership rate of $15.

You must be, or become, a member of the Foundation to register for field trips.
When can I register for Field Trips?
Current & renewing members enjoy Early Bird online registration starting at NOON on March 25.
Not already a member? You have two registration & membership options:
• Before April 1: Go to WisConservation.org and click on “Join Now” to become a member at the
$25 or greater level. Your payment confirmation email will include your registration passcode to enjoy
Early Bird field trip registration opening Tuesday, March 25.
•
After April 1: Register for trips using the passcode: Join NRF & a discounted membership rate of
$15 will automatically be added to your cart during trip registration.
Tips for choosing trips:
• You may attend up to four trips, and bring up to 5 guests. Email us after May 1, and if space
is still available, we may be able to register you for additional trips at that time.
• Trip title colors indicate their physical ratings. Please double-check if a trip is a good fit for you.
• You may register for only one canoe/kayak trip per person due to high demand.
• Please don’t register for trips you have attended in the past.
Tips for online registration:
• No phone or email registrations accepted.
• Have the names and contact information of all members in your party handy.
• Some trips are popular and fill VERY quickly (some within minutes), so have a few back-up choices in
mind.
• If a trip is full, consider the waiting list (this will be an option during online registration). We often call or
email wait-listers to go on trips!
• Big fan of our field trips? Then please consider an additional donation to the Field Trip Fund while
registering online. Your donation to the Field Trip Fund helps keep our prices low, so all can go!
Important facts:
• All fees are non-refundable if you cancel your registration.
• Trip details, directions & maps will be emailed to you two weeks before your trip date.
• Field Trips run rain or shine.
• There is a $10 processing fee for mail-in registrations, and an additional $10 if you need trip details sent
to you via US mail.
• You will be asked to sign a liability waiver form before you attend our field trips.
