WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DURALEX...
DURALEX & YOU
Since 1945, generations of
school children in France have
been drinking from our glasses
and playing the age game…
Offering consumers a new,
reliable, high-quality product at
a competitive price. That was
the goal that motivated SaintGobain to conduct its first tests
on tempered glass in 1939; tests
that led to the patenting of the
process used to create glass
tableware and the creation of
the Duralex brand in 1945.
That pioneering spirit and
exclusive expertise has been part of its industrial and emotional heritage ever since. Because it’s true, isn’t it?
You love Duralex! You love its timeless style and character. You love the way it stands up to rough treatment,
which always amazes you, and - of course - the way it transcends fashion. You love the quality of a product that
has always been made in France. You love Duralex wherever in the world you live, whether you knew the old
French school canteen games or not, whether you’re 20 or 60, or whether you have a feeling for the practical,
the aesthetic or the economical... or all three!
2015 witnessed the celebration of our brand’s 70th anniversary. What a great year it was! Popular demand
made it possible for us to launch an e-boutique, giving an even greater number of consumers instant and hasslefree access to our products. Prestigious partnerships were forged, shedding a new light on our products (see the
distinctive creations of 5.5 Design Studio). New items were also introduced, that will no doubt become
tomorrow’s icons. More than ever, our brand appeal is alive and well. This is illustrated by the number of times
our products have appeared in films this year, from the Hollywood blockbuster to the arthouse movie.
2016 will undoubtedly be a year for us to forge closer relationships with our customers. Thanks to the
introduction of new products and new ways to enjoy them.

DURALEX QUALITY
Since 1945, Duralex has pioneered tempered glass technology, a process we specialise in. The tempering
process consists in sudden cooling of the glass previously heated to a temperature of 700°C and is suddenly
cooled by cold air ventilation. This treatment creates controlled stress in the glass which improves most of
its physical qualities: resistance to mechanical stress (bending, impacts) and thermal shock. It is the same
tempered glass used to make windscreens. Virtually unbreakable, if however Duralex tempered glass does
break in your hands, there is no risk of injury. It bursts into a multitude of blunt pieces, for your safety.
Properties:

Mechanical: A tempered glass product is about 2.5 times more resistant than an annealed product
of the same thickness.

Thermal: A tempered glass product resists thermal shock of 130°C whereas annealed glass breaks
above 40°C.
This gives all of our products high quality and durability. They move smoothly from freezer to microwave.
Ovenware :
Specifically designed for cooking in an oven, the OVENCHEF range is made from reinforced tempered glass
resistant to a thermal shock of 200°C. Our dishes withstand temperatures between -20°C and 300°C.
