Since 2009, BMF has been exploring innovative and practical solutions to ensure peoples safety and wellbeing at events and parties, where excessive alcohol and drug consumption has become the norm. Recent studies indicate that 2 out of every 5 Australians will drink at dangerous levels at least once per year and 36% of Australians are drinking “to get drunk”. Hazardous and harmful binge drinking costs society over $15.3 billion per year split between: Costs of criminal justice (21%) Costs to the health system (12%) Productivity losses for businesses (42%) Cost of drink-driving induced accidents (26%) BMF aims to promote safe social environments, by empowering people to know their level of intoxication and to make responsible decisions based on this information. By starting a friendly conversation with young adults in a positive context about the effects of alcohol, drugs and dangers of associated behaviours, we empower them to: Drink responsibly Understand the effects of alcohol and drugs to them Avoid drink- & drug driving Avoid violent behaviour Establish healthier drinking habits Encourage their peers to drink responsibly 5 WHAT? WHY? BMF is an alcohol & drug education and testing service aimed at empowering young people to make safe and responsible decisions. At BMF, we believe that every time we engage with young adults at venues and events and facilitate a breath test or drug test, an important conversation about responsible consumption takes place. Our service aims to reach all people and inform them of their blood alcohol content or whether the drugs they have consumed can still impair their ability to make dangerous decisions such as drink & drug driving, or other anti-social harmful behaviours. This conversation stays with them and has a “ripple effect” that encourages self-awareness of consumption levels and safer behaviours associated with drinking and drug taking. Our breathalyser units are of the highest quality and are provided to us by Draeger, who proudly sponsor our hardware for both commercial and personal use. These units are also used by law enforcement globally and they are calibrated regularly to ensure accuracy in readings and maintenance of equipment. BMF has developed a strong presence at popular venues, festivals, and events. Our clients recognise the importance of ensuring safe and responsible service of alcohol. They choose to partner with BMF to ensure that patrons are empowered to drink responsibly and make safe choices when drinking. Our drug testing kits are also of the highest quality. To ensure testing remains relevant and accurate. BMF provide saliva screening, hair follicle testing and urine testing options to ensure drug detection is available for all environments and guidelines. Venue and event management can be reassured that they are providing an “alcohol safe environment” for their patrons to revel in. They are taking the necessary steps to encourage responsible drinking and associated behaviour and they are providing outstanding value and care to patrons by encouraging a safe, positive social experience that ends with a safe journey home. BMF has a duty of care with every test facilitated, whether positive or negative or a very low reading to always instruct the person being tested not to drive. This ensures that every test remains a guide only and cannot be used to reference any occurrence post being tested. 6 7 OUR TRAINING PROGRAMS BMF teamed up with Alcocups in early 2014. Alcocups are a drug & alcohol education program that work with 33 universities Australia wide. They also deliver recognized training courses such as RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) Alcocups develop props, educational kits and are the leaders in providing education to the sporting clubs, universities and the corporate sector. BMF utilize Alcocups to assist them in training their own staff to help deliver the right information when facilitating testing. BMF have also created an employment screening process through its employment page on their website. All applicants are required to complete a questionnaire and will be scored against a set criteria and if successful, will be given the opportunity to volunteer. 9 CASE STUDY: GOOD LIFE FESTIVAL SUMMARY Six years running and returning for an absolutely massive season in 2015: Good Life Good Life Festival is a fully overhauled festival experience designed exclusively for 13-17-year-olds. More than 20 of the hottest names in music from Australia and beyond across three stages, combined with a Theme Park, a Water Park, a Sports Zone, an Outdoor Cinema featuring all the hottest flicks Presented by Coca Cola & Nova FM, Good Life Festivali s the world’s largest under 18s festival. THE BRIEF Good life were not prepared to risk a lawsuit, risk permit restrictions and have any situation that could blemish the good reputation they have in the community. To mitigate potential risks, they were prepared to market to parents and advertise that their event would be 100% alcohol and drug free. THE PROCESS BMF services created a customized format to manage 1000’s of under 18 year old kids attending the Good life festival in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane in 2015. Event management created a zero tolerance policy for kids testing positive for drugs and or alcohol before entering the venue site. The process was that BMF would position 10 staff members across all 10 turnstiles, hand picking kids out of the line in front of their peers to be breath tested and/or drug swabbed before entering the event site. If a positive reading came back, the BMF staff member would flag the individual to event security who would escort the individual to event aid who would assess whether or not they would allow a retest, have to call their parents or be prohibited to enter the event and be sent home. 10 THE RESULT 1 in 10 patrons were tested prior to entry, and we had a small amount overall that were unable to be allowed entry into the event. He is driven, motivated and understands how to maintain a successful business model. Being a punter himself that enjoyed going to music festivals, bars and clubs alike. David commenced extensive research of the market, engaging other business owners, friends and punters, trying to understand what services were already out there that allowed people to check where they were at in terms of blood alcohol content. After realizing there was no actual service that offered this to patrons, the concept of BMF was born in 2009. David wanted to bring breath testing to patrons in a fun and interactive way. Dave is adamant that delivering the best drug testing and breath testing service will impact cultural awareness and change within the Australian public. Managing Director NOAH TYLER Noah first crossed paths with Dave in 2013, right at the point where he too was running a successful business and was looking at other opportunities to expand. Dave recognized that Noah’s people skills and work ethic would be key to taking BMF to the next level. The timing was perfect and the two boys have never looked back. Noah is passionate about helping people and loves building relationships with events and promoters alike to grow the brand nationally. 15 EVENT PACKAGES DRIVE SAFE PACKAGE When patrons are set on driving to an event, BMF offer 2 very effective strategies to give patrons every chance to test themselves before driving out of the venue. BMF setup at the exit points of the main designated car parks. With appropriate signage, road safety equipment and traffic management directing cars. BMF will be able systematically offer drivers the chance to pull over in a holding bay and be tested for alcohol and drugs. BMF crew are also certified in traffic management and ensure traffic flows in and out of the entrance/exit points BMF are adamant in making sure drivers are hydrated before leaving an event, offering water and Gatorade. BMF crew deliver critical information and advice to all drivers who are tested. Encouraging them to reconsider their options before leaving. Often directing them back into the festival to rest, sleep, eat and rehydrate before driving. CRITICAL PACKAGE The Final hours of an event critical window of opportunity BMF will man the exit turnstiles to the site where foot traffic flows out of the venue. This is the perfect opportunity for patrons to monitor whether they are safe to leave the venue. In this package, BMF will recommend 1 x staff member per x300 patrons. With forecast numbers of attendees, BMF will arm every staff member with a highly calibrated breathalyzer and information in regards to public transport, taxi’s and first aid. 16 ROAMING TEAMS BMF HQ – setup either next to information tent or close to first aid/ paramedics. BMF staff throughout the day can be utilized within the venue to target drinkers while in the act of drinking. BMF staff can roam through high traffic areas and monitor drinking zones so that people are fully aware of the service being available while utilizing the service to monitor where they are at. Security, RSA staff and First aid can also have access to BMF when called upon. For example if a patron is sick or have had their drink spiked and the medics need to know what they’ve taken or how intoxicated they are BMF is able to identify and inform first aid with exactly what and how much a person has consumed. BMF has in the past worked with RSA and event management to determine that if a patron blows a higher reading than .10 security have the right to refuse service on the basis of being intoxicated or the right to refuse entry. UNDER 18 EVENTS Having serviced the biggest underage event on the Australian calendar “Goodlife” it is clear to us that event management do not want to deal with the risk of having a drunk or high under age patron. Endorsing a zero tolerance policy, BMF created a team trained to breath test and drug test kids before they entered the event. Positive results were flagged to security and event management dealt with the child immediately. This mitigated any potential risk before the individual passed the turnstiles. 19 EVENT FORMATS We have 2 major event formats that breakdown the current landscape. 1 DAY EVENTS Any event where the event goer is thinking: “1 day, I can drink, I may park my car close by and decide later”. “I can drive to a friends after”. “I want to be able to leave if I get over it”. These events typically include: Music festival Concerts Winery tours Sporting events University events Corporate events Weddings / engagements 2+ DAY EVENTS Any event where most attending will need to drive to and from the venue and stay overnight. These events typically include: Music festivals Destination weddings Conference events 20 UNIVERSITY SOLUTIONS Universities Australia wide are all dealing with the same issues.Drink driving and anti social behaviour. Many fear these problems are destroying the university experience, as a ripple effect, University reputations are being tarnished and a growing health and safety concern for students welfare becomes apparent. BMF are able to implement strategic step by step processes to empower duty managers, students and University heads to tackle these issues head on. BMF will not only sit on the front line of any licensed event on and off campus but will interact and educate students while in the act of drinking. The more hardline approach comes through a customised program developed by BMF where the university implements a system where students will be breath tested in accordance with guidelines set by the university. These guidelines will create a social conscience to limit the amount of drinking while on campus. As a by product of these actions, BMF will also implement education by using BAC drink coasters, BAC wallet cards and a BAC mobile application to help students monitor their drinking in a very simple, effective and user friendly way. 23 NIGHT CLUBS & BARS BMF are able to provide licensed venues with a crowd control and safety measures. BMF can customise the service format from front line breath testing at the door and/or a roaming service inside the venue. This assists licensed venues with tackling the excessive drinking culture head on, making patrons more aware of where they are at while in the act of drinking. BMF have worked with Trak nightclub, Chasers, Tramp, Billboards and many other venues who had issues with liquor licensing and wanted to empower their security with the means to educate patrons and arm them with information for refusal of entry. BMF are essentially educating people by engaging with them in a positive conversation about their drinking habits ,explaining exactly how their body processes alcohol and what .05 means to them. 24 25 BMF ONLINE E-COMMERCE BMF want to give the consumer market the most reliable and accurate product line to assist people in self monitoring for drugs and alcohol.
