SPRING INTO FITNESS 2016 SPRING PROGRAM GUIDE YMCA OF LENAWEE COUNTY MEMBERSHIP Membership Information: Scholarship Program Membership benefits include recreational use of the YMCA for age 6 months and above, as well as free group exercise classes, free wellness orientation, free child watch, and reduced fees on programs. For the safety of our youth members, there are some age restrictions and guidelines related to the use of the wellness center and iron courts. The YMCA of Lenawee County believes that no one should be denied access to our programs and membership based on their ability to pay. Through our Scholarship Program, the Y provides assistance to youth, adults and families based on individual needs and circumstances. See a Member Services representative for more information. Corporate Membership: AWAY Program The YMCA of Lenawee County provides area businesses of all sizes with special corporate membership rates. Companies that have at least five employees who join the Y are eligible. For a list of our current corporate relations and additional information, Visiting members from out of town YMCAs are always welcome. Just present your Y card at the front desk. If you’re in town for an extended stay beyond 4 weeks, please contact our Membership Department for assistance. A Family membership is one or two adults and their dependents living in the same household. College Student is a full-time student with 12 credit hours or more. Current class schedule must be provided each semester to continue to qualify for this rate. Health Center includes a personal lock & locker in an adults-only locker room, sauna, steam room*, private lounge area, unlimited towels and laundry service. Steam room available only in the Men’s Health Center. 2 2 Active duty (title 10) military personnel may be eligible to receive a complimentary adult/family membership. Families of servicemen or women who are deployed receive a complimentary membership for the duration of deployment. Civilians who have enlisted, receive a complimentary month prior to leaving for boot camp. Contact our Membership Director to determine your eligibility. Y FITNESS PASS: CLASS IS IN SESSION! There are several ways that your family and friends, church groups, or schools can enjoy the use of the YMCA. Party and rental applications are available at the front desk. Party packages can include the use of the gym or pool for one hour, plus one hour in a room for your party. We’ll work with you to provide the package that best fits your needs. Maumee Street Adrian, MI 49221 (517) 263-2151 www.ymcaoflenawee.org 3 YOUTH PROGRAMS TUMBLING, CHEER & DANCE Our Tumbling, Cheer & Dance programs are taught by tremendous, experienced instructors from local colleges, and are available for kids ages 2 & up! Advanced/Elite Tumbling REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 2nd Students must have mastered a back walkover and have taken at least one session of classes within the program before signing up for this class. Tuesdays from 7:15–8:30pm May 3-June 7 DATES: Weeks of May 3 – June 9 High School Cheer & Tumbling Novice Tumbling Ages 2-4 learning basic motor skills. Following basic class directions, learning how to take turns, hop, skip, front & back rolls, handstands, etc. Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6:30-7:15pm May 3-June 7 or May 5– June 9 Beginner Tumbling Athletes must be 4 years old to be enrolled in this class. Basic tumbling skills including front rolls, handstands, cartwheels, handstand limbers and bridges. (Beginner 1) Tuesdays from 6:30–7:30pm May 3-June 7 (Beginner 2) Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm May 5– June 9 Intermediate Tumbling Athlete must have mastered a cartwheel before being enrolled in this class. High emphasis will be placed on handstand limbers, front walkover and back walkover without instructor assistance. Tuesdays from 7:30– 8:30pm May 3-June 7 Mini Advanced Tumbling Students must have mastered a back walkover and have taken at least one session within the program before signing up for this class. Participants will master the combination of front walkover cartwheel back walkovers, as well as round off back handsprings. Thursdays from 7:30 – 8:30pm May 5– June 9 For a complete list of classes, days & times, visit our Youth Sports webpage! 4 Please bring soft soled shoes to wear for the jump and stunting portions. This class has high emphasis on competitive cheerleading as well as elements of sideline cheerleading. Motion technique, body positions, jumps, stunts, standing and running tumbling will be taught. Thursdays from 6:30–8:30pm May 5– June 9 Beginner Dance Athletes will learn basic dance skills, involving ballet and jazz while learning how to combine dance techniques and basic dance stretches. Tuesdays from 5:15–6:00pm May 3-June 7 Intermediate Dance Will have high emphasis on ballet and jazz. Athletes will also have introduction to hip-hop, and learn more advanced techniques to combine with dance. Tuesdays from 5:15–6:15pm May 3-June 7 YOUTH SPORTS LITTLE HITTERS T-BALL SHORT SPORTS The perfect start for every future baseball/ softball star with little or no experience! We have two sessions this summer, you can do one or both! For ages 3-5. Dates: Mondays Session 1: June 6-June 27, Session 2: July 11-August 1 Times: 5:30pm-6:30pm Location: Island Park Fee: $25 for Y members, $45 for non-members Each week is focused around a different sport. Great opportunity for your child to experience an array of different sports and techniques. (for each session) YOUTH FISHING DERBY * YOUTH BASEBALL/SOFTBALL The YMCA summer baseball and softball leagues consist of T-ball ages 5-6, Boys Machine Pitch, and 14U Baseball & Softball. Registration deadline is April 15th. For 8U girls, 10U & 12U baseball/softball registration have ended but we still have a few spots remaining. Call the YMCA today for more info. LITTLE KICKERS SOCCER Ages 3-5 will learn crucial basic motor skills and can be right next to their parent/guardian. Times will be 5:30-6:30pm. Held at Heritage Park Soccer Fields. Alexander, Lincoln, Michener & Prairie Elementary Schools will practice once per week and meet at the end of the program for some friendly competition against the other elementary schools. Each school’s practice day will vary. Meeting once per week. Program Fee of only $10 and includes snack and T-shirt. Kinder Camp provides a fun setting for children that are entering Kindergarten September 2015. Kindergarten readiness skills will be practiced daily through songs, crafts, games and other fun camp activities. Important life skills will also be taught through weekly swim lessons that will be held at the YMCA. Kinder Campers will participate in all camp themes and field trips. Where an ordinary moment becomes an extraordinary experience Traditional Day Camp is set for children entering grades 1st-6th and includes a variety of activities based on a weekly theme. YMCA Day Camp is licensed through the State of Michigan and campers are grouped to provide age appropriate activities. A typical day will include indoor and outdoor activities, crafts, games and plenty of opportunities for discovering new skills and building friendships for life! LEADERS IN TRAINING Growing. Learning. Leading. The LIT program is looking for youth entering grades 7th-9th. Teens will spend the first half of the day learning skills in CPR/first aid, pool safety, child abuse prevention and more. The second half of the day will be spent working directly with the children in our Day Camp Program. Candidates for the LIT program will be selected through an application process. Applications are available at the YMCA Front Desk. Thanks to our generous donors and our Annual Strong Kids Campaign, we make sure that Y Camps are available to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. It also includes social experiences, and supporting and facilitating optimal development of each child without getting in their way, pushing them into areas ahead of their readiness, or falling behind them in our assessments or interactions with each child. That’s why child care and early learning programs at the Y focus on holistically nurturing child development by providing a safe and healthy place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships and build self-reliance through the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. YMCA Mini Maples Preschool Offered in partnership with Adrian College and Adrian Public Schools Location: Lincoln Elementary. The YMCA of Lenawee County, in collaboration with Adrian College and Adrian Public Schools, is offering an innovative preschool classroom. The curriculum is based on ongoing research of children’s learning and development. Lincoln Elementary School is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, which focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer. With activities that encourage international mindedness, students are also engaged in real life experiences with in-depth inquiries to create lifelong learners.
