Secoroc TRB soft rock drill bit
Secoroc TRB
– making chips out of soft rock
As the name implies, soft rock ought to be
easier to drill than hard rock. But that’s not
always the case. Many drill bits are quite
simply the wrong shape! They don’t allow
enough room for cuttings to be flushed out.
Recycled cuttings
Some things are planned while others
are not! To the surprise of our engineers, these larger rock chips were
ideal as blast hole filler when charging
blast holes. This enables the contractors to save time and effort from carrying extra filler around the work site.
Keeping sharp
Atlas Copco Secoroc has come up
with an answer, the all-new Secoroc
TRB (Threaded Rocket Bit) drill bit
that's aimed at production drilling in
soft rock.
An aerodynamic soft rock innovation
Featuring a completely new drill bit
design, the Secoroc TRB bit has fullballistic buttons and vertical grooves
big enough to remove considerably
larger chips. This means there is more
space between the bit steel body and
rock face and, as a consequence,
allows more space for flushing. But
this wasn’t done by trial and error!
Our engineers were able to use their
digital “wind tunnel” to simulate the
best angles for optimum chip removal.
Faster penetration and longer
service life
The Secoroc TRB bit offers greater
penetration rate than any other bit a penetration rate that is also sustainable throughout the bit’s service life.
Thanks to the resulting larger chips,
each drilled hole requires less hammering from the rock drill. That in
turn means less stress and strain on
the drill string, rock drill and drill
rig – not to mention improved fuel
economy.
More holes per day
As shape of a drill bit is vital to the
drilling productivity, a Secoroc TRB
bit can offer more holes per day than
any other soft rock bit. In the long
run, that means a contractor has the
potential to take on more work. Not to
mention, the opportunity of increasing revenues when operating on a drill
metre contract.
Thanks to the new front design with
high quality steel and cemented carbide, regrinding is rarely when working in soft rock formation. But, should
the need arise, Secoroc Grind Matic
Jazz or Secoroc Grind Matic BQ2
grinders with the patented Secoroc
diamond grinding wheel can restore
these full-ballistic buttons to perfection. Moreover, thanks to the forged
bit head with vertical grooves, there is
less steel material to remove from the
front which makes grinding quicker
and easier.
Secoroc TRB
– available in seven versions
Secoroc TRB bits are available in three diameters:
76mm and 89mm with T38 and T45 threads;
