Neighborhood House 2014 Annual Report and Giving Request
The brightest stars are those who shine for the benefit of others Neighborhood House 2014 Annual Report and Giving Request Dear Friends, Neighborhood House has enjoyed over 120 years of guiding individuals, family and community towards success. Today we celebrate all of our stars – the children, the adults, the families, the employees, the volunteers, the Board of Trustees and you, our supporters. As you align your star with ours, you help to fulfill the wishes of low-income families to improve their quality of life. Neighborhood House serves over 400 individuals, children and adult clients a year with quality early education, accredited preschool opportunities, enriching afterschool programs, and dignified adult care. We have tremendous opportunities ahead. Neighborhood House resides in the heart of the community most in need of our services. Today, our four acres of land, two buildings, 50+ staff, and partners are planning for the future. With your help, Neighborhood House is poised to leap to the next level of impact by combating the issues that affect our community. We have plans to improve our site, strengthen our programs, and deepen our impact. Together, we can make the unimaginable possible for those most in need. Your support helps us provide comprehensive, quality services to single mothers of children needing preschool; support caregivers as they maintain employment and hold a family together; provide adults with social interactions, avoiding premature institutional placement and isolation. The funds we raise will immediately impact and support the quality, affordable care programs at Neighborhood House. Please join us in responding to the care needs of amazing families. Our best wishes, Julie Glenn President of the Neighborhood House Board of Trustees The numbers of Neighborhood House tell a story 84% of clients are ethnic minorities 95% of families are low income 86% of families are single parent households Our families want the best for their children, and they find the best in the Neighborhood House Children’s Program; Our year-round Afterschool and Summer Programs saw the highest-ever enrollment this past year. Our NAEYC-accredited Preschool Program acquired advanced programs to track Pre-K learning and Kindergarten readiness. New in 2015, our new Toddler Program offers an early advantage to children as young as eighteen months. Neighborhood House uses its relationships with other organizations to benefit its clients in a multitude of ways. In 2014, 46 children received tutoring through the AmericaReads program in partnership with the University of Utah, with most children improving by at least one reading level. More than 60 children received swimming lessons from Race Swami, and 40 children learned about nutrition from Molina Health Care’s Cooking Classes with Dr. Cleo. Our families are engaged in their children’s learning, with high monthly attendances at Family Fun Night Engagement Activities and an 80% attendance at parent-teacher conferences. For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream Vincent Van Gogh Neighborhood House Children’s Program Costs $23.00 daily cost of services $14.15 $8.85 average daily payment for services difference between cost of care and what clients can afford to pay Neighborhood House fees can be adjusted to offer temorary hardship assistance to families experiencing unexpected financial strain like medical bills or unemployment. This makes a big difference to families whose average income is $18,533. Neighborhood House served 396 children in 2014, and with 91% of families receiving a reduced rate on our sliding fee scale, 360 children benefitted from Neighborhood House programming at a reduced rate to their families. The Neighborhood House Adult Program has its own tale to tell When a loved one requires care beyond what a family has the capacity to provide, Neighborhood House offers a quality program that allows the individual to stay in his or her home. The Adult Program works with clients and their families to solve funding issues. We negotiate with Salt Lake County and Veterans Affairs to identify outside funding sources and we provide a reduced rate on our sliding fee scale. This assistance allows caregivers to maintain employment or receive respite while knowing their loved ones are benefitting from quality care. 4616 door-to-door transportation trips provided 24,013 meals and snacks served Neighborhood House served 131 adults in 2014, and 58% received financial assistance based on their incomes; 76 adults benefitted from Neighborhood House programming at a reduced cost to their families. Both of our facilities, in the downtown area and Cottonwood, provide an average of 11 activities daily designed to foster social, emotional, cognitive, and physical health, and clients maintain an average participation rate of 95%.
