This is due on the one hand to the increasing number of transmission systems and, on the other hand, to the demand for digital TV programming such as PPV and VOD. Furthermore many operators now offer digital services for internet and digital telephony. Altogether these comprise the so-called Triple Play digital network. This applies to distribution and reception systems in different fields, including terrestrial, satellite and cable broadband TV networks. All such systems require coaxial cables with more efficient screening features, especially in the so-called Return Path frequency range, typically 5 - 85 MHz. The TS Series includes coaxials provided with the special J-ShortingFold Screen. This is an innovative Triple Shielded screen that affords excellent screening attenuation (SA) along the full frequency bandwidth range 30-3000 MHz. It consists of: 1. An Al/Pet/Al foil film bonded to the dielectric (APAS); 2.One conventional braid of CuSn wires; 3. Another Al/Pet foil film (AP) over the braid, which is folded back over itself on the overlapping section. The combination of these screening components guarantees the stability of the SA values, which are close to those provided by a real metal tube while keeping the cable’s flexibility within acceptable limits for easy handling during installation. Pet film Alu foil We have introduced two series of cables which both offer the highest screening efficiency, Class A++, according to EN50117 specifications. The RP Series includes Double Shielded coaxials performing the highest possible screening efficiency along Return Path frequencies. This is due to the use of a thicker Al foil film over the dielectric. What is a “physical gas injected” dielectric? Gas injection is the technology used for producing the physical foam dielectric of coaxial cables since the early ‘90s. Before this technology was introduced the blowing up of the foam PE dielectric insulation was done by chemical powders. They were blended together with Low Density solid Polyethylene (LDPE) which decomposed the powders into gas under the effect of extrusion temperature. That method limited the mechanical strength of the dielectric and jeopardised the life of the attenuation values, mainly due to the presence of moisture in the environment. By contrast, an insulation made with nitrogen gas physically injected into High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) produces a foam dielectric that grants the cable much better mechanical, electrical and ageing performance, almost equivalent to that of a solid PE dielectric. This is particularly beneficial where a coaxial cable is exposed to crushing, squashing and bending manoeuvres during installation. Gas injection also ensures a longer life span and stable attenuation values. In accordance with IEC 68-2-3 specifications which prescribe an ageing test of 21 days at 40°C and relative humidity of 93%, further tests show that attenuation increases less than 5% over original values. The graph shows the attenuation increase (at 1750 MHz) of two equivalent cables, one made with chemical foam dielectric and the other with physical foam dielectric. BEFORE AFTER -60 -50 -40 -30 -20 coil 250 500 S250L DS250 -10 0 Increase %: Chemical 68% Skin-Foam-Skin extrusion Firstly CAVEL cables are extruded by physical foam PE gas injection with the aim of reducing their rate of ageing, which is mainly due to moisture ingress. In addition, this extrusion ensures optimal performance thanks to Skin-FoamSkin technology. It consists of a triple extrusion made of: a 1st layer of solid PE skin covering the inner conductor a 2nd section formed by the main extrusion of physical foam PE gas injected dielectric a 3rd layer, also of solid PE skin, covering the dielectric Thanks to this technology, the first PE layer protects the inner conductor against any horizontal moisture ingress so that no conductor oxidation may occur; this is in addition to the adhesion of a suitable dielectric over the inner conductor. Furthermore, the stronger geometry of the dielectric section improves the eccentricity of the inner conductor, especially in the presence of cable bends; this results in extended stability of the electrical parameters. The outer skin also preserves the integrity of the cable against longitudinal moisture ingress; this is in combination with PIB protection, as explained in further detail below. outer skin inner skin inner conductor foam dielectric Standard Drop Coaxials SA >75 dB KF114 SAT703-2G SAT703B PIB protection An exclusive protection system consisting of a layer of PolyIso-Butylene (PIB) covering the dielectric of cables not provided with bonded Al foil film. For safety purposes, the sheaths are made with a special thermoplastic compound that has special flame-retardant properties. It is well known that ducts crowded with cables can lead to the rapid propagation of fire and that the greatest danger to health and life is the inhalation of toxic fumes generated by the combustion of thermoplastic materials. Fumes generated by the combustion of chlorine-based compounds, such as PVC, have: - high corrosive power, capable of damaging all common electronic devices; - high toxicity levels, inasmuch as 500 ppm of hydrochloric acid can be fatal after an exposure of 15 minutes, as opposed to 100,000 ppm of carbon dioxide or 4,000 ppm of carbon monoxide. With the aim of supplying our customers a number of safety cables covering a wide variety of possible applications, we present our current range of ZH coaxials, provided with a sheath having the following characteristics: - flame and fire retardant both for the single cable and a cable bundle vertically installed - low smoke and fume emission - zero halogen - UV resistant Security Drop Coaxials LSZH Sheath DG163ZH The ZH sheath on our coaxial cables has been homologated: - in the ‘90s, by the ISPT (Italian Superior Institute for Post and Telecommunications); - in 2008, by the EZC (Electrotechnical Testing Institute) of Czech Republic. We recommend the use of this range of cables for any installation in public buildings and environments where there is a likely presence of many people, e.g.: hospitals, schools, hotels, banks, tube stations, cinemas, theatres, airports etc. In addition to the special safety characteristics of the outer sheath, these ZH coaxial cables have the same physical and electrical characteristics as the equivalent SAT, DG and trunk cables. Therefore, they can be used to cover most applications in terrestrial, satellite and digital installation systems. In this case the drop line requires two coaxial cables, one for each LNB. Furthermore, the multiswitch distribution system makes it possible to independently distribute, among all users in the same building, a wide range of both satellite and terrestrial TV signals. For this reason the need for the so-called “light cabling system” is fulfilled by the use of multicore coaxials. Due to this technology the signals distribution requires: - 4 coaxials for the satellite distribution and 1 coaxial for the terrestrial distribution, where the dish is provided with 1 converter 2xDG80 CAVEL code 5xDG80M 9xDG80M 2x17VAtC 5x17VAtCM 9x17VAtCM - 2 groups of 4 coaxials for the satellite distribution and 1 coaxial for the terrestrial if the dish is provided with 2 LNBs CONSTRUCTION DATA Central Filler A Single cable B Single Cable’s Sheath material - white PVC dia. mm - code DG80 (1) 3,50 8,50 white PVC - DG80 (1) material dia. mm 4,80 17VAtC (2) 11,40 white PVC with colored stripe - white PVC with colored stripe - 5,00 - 6,80 Spirally Wrapped Film C material - Pet - Pet Outer Sheath E material white PVC black PE (flexible) We designed the twin and multicore coaxials shown here with the aim of offering the easiest solutions to professional installers. This makes it easier to identify the cables and insert further remote poles. Furthermore, we have adopted the colour coding system already used by several European manufactures of active and passive components and equipment designed for multiswitch distribution. By convention the following functions have been assigned to this colour coding system: SMATV Multicore Coaxials 9x Colour Function Red High Band Vertical Yellow High Band Horizontal WhiteTerrestrial GreenLow Band Horizontal BlackLow Band Vertical Multicore coax with multipurpose outer jacket “M” Initially, these cables were made with a common hard PE jacket, the stiffness of which made their installation quite difficult, if not impossible. With the aim of making it easier to install these cables in both outdoor and underground applications, they have been provided with a flexible black PE outer sheath compound. The M suffix in the code identifies these versions, which entered production at the start of 2010. This jacket is not only flameretardant but also zero-halogen (halogen-free), therefore it is fire-safe and suitable for indoor applications. Outdoor installations are also possible due to the compound’s carbon black content and resistance to UV rays. For underground applications we recommend installation in pipes and ducts. 5x 2x D1 D2 9x SINCE 1 9 6 8 13 Distribution and Trunk Coaxials Outdoor and Underground Installation CAVEL code CONSTRUCTION DATA Inner Conductor Dielectric Screen 1. All of these products have some common features including: Distribution and Trunk Coaxials Outdoor and Underground Installation RG11FC - low losses 17/73FC - high screening effectiveness, also known as screening attenuation (SA) - long-lasting stability of signal attenuation thanks to physical gas injected foam PE dielectric technology (skin-foam-skin). CATV11 All are suitable for laying branch stretches of long TV and Triple Play broadband distribution systems. They are an excellent means of distribution for any terrestrial and satellite TV system as well as telephone and internet services. Furthermore they provide stable SRL and attenuation ranging from 5 to 3000 MHz SUGGESTED APPLICATIONS Only cables provided with a specific PE outer sheath, strong enough to protect the coaxial core from the environment, must be used for outdoor and underground installations. In addition, both our series of cables for underground installation as well as those provided with messenger for suspended installations, are provided with a petrol jelly (PJ) flooding compound filling. It is interposed between the braid and the outer PE sheath to prevent moisture ingress. Furthermore, it is a non-dropping compound so it can also be safely used in vertical cable stretches. to be continued > Tools & Connectors (look at pages 26-29) 14 COAXIAL CABLE SINCE 1 9 6 8 15 Distribution Coaxials Outdoor Hung-up Installation with Messenger CAVEL code CONSTRUCTION DATA Inner Conductor dia. mm material material dia. mm Dielectric Screen 1. As drop cables we offer 11/50FC for underground applications and DG113PEM for suspended applications, the latter provided with a single wire messenger. In the group of RG11 distribution cables the 17/73FC is recommended for underground installation together with CATV11 and RG11FC, while CATV11AP is the one with messenger. From this size up, the messenger is always a stranded rope with a maximum pulling force in excess of 500 kg. Cables with inner conductors sized 2.2, 2.7 and 3.4 mm complete the offer of the trunk series, both for underground and with messenger cables. Distribution Coaxials Outdoor Hung-up Installation with Messenger 22/99AP CATV11AP We recommend that all cables laid underground are installed in pipes and ducts, even if this solution implies a higher initial installation cost. All are provided with an outer sheath with the following features: - flame-retardant - low smoke and fume emission - zero halogen - UV resistant They are suitable for indoor and outdoor installations as well as for fire-safe installations. attenuation) and, above all, very long routing distances without requiring signal amplification, all critical features for high quality cuttingedge installations. As an alternative to obsolete MIL standard cables, which are still frequently used in video security systems, CAVEL offers the VS80 coaxial cable with: - physical foam PE dielectric, providing optimised attenuation and - a double screen providing Class A screening attenuation, according to EN50117 specifications. The video security sector is constantly developing due to the increasing demand for remote controlled security systems in both private and public sectors. Many systems use analogue cameras (4-6 MHz frequency base band or composite video), although digital systems are gaining in popularity. The same cable is also available in the versions: - VS80205 which has two coupled electrical leads (2x0.50 mm2 section) and - VS80210 (2x1.00 mm2), both suitable for feeding power to remote devices. The outer sheath, containing both the coaxial cable and the two power conductors, ensures electrical insulation up to 1000V. Installers traditionally use classic components, namely MIL standard type coaxial cables with PVC outer sheath and solid polyethylene dielectric, such as: RG59B/U, KX6 and URM70. These cables have been surpassed on a technical level by coaxial cables with gas injected foam PE dielectric and foil/braid screen. The latest generation of TV cables afford superior performance in terms of signal loss (attenuation), shielding from interfering signals (screening Video Security Coaxial Cables Multipurpose Installation VS80205 VS80210 VS80 The main differences with respect to conventional RG/U cable are shown in the table below. THIS IS A WASTE DISPOSAL PROBLEM! 250 m Until recently, coils in a box or non-returnable cardboard and plastic reels were the most popular means of packaging TV coaxial cables. In spite of some inconveniences, these packages were accepted as the norm. Today, due to environmental studies and concerns, the concept of recycling has become a paramount issue, prompting CAVEL to develop a total solution in terms of EFFICIENCY, ECONOMY and ECOLOGY. respect the environment his has led to the introduction of a revolutionary product - the CABLEBOX dispenser - a design based on the concepts of REDUCTION and REUTILISATION. AFTER THE USE... The CABLEBOX dispenser is made of a stand containing one reel, which can be easily opened into two parts. These pieces, made of a shock resistant, very strong plastic material, form a cable dispenser with a very long life expectancy. The “refill” is represented by the coil of coaxial cable supplied by CAVEL. The dispensers are available in two sizes, suitable for either the 100 or 250 metre coil of cable. They can be carried and are also provided with a shoulder strap. This is a safety feature that enables the installer to move with both hands free. 100 m THE PRESENT new smart pack solution of 1 pallet with14,4 km cable, YOU WASTE JUST FEW hg OF PAPER AND PLASTIC. The cable will always unroll perfectly without assuming a “spiral shape”, an annoying drawback of box dispensers that makes installation in ducts very difficult. This is most useful when installing a bundle of cables together in a conduit. Rewinding excess cable back into the dispenser is very straightforward due to the access through the centre hole. The sheath of all CAVEL cables supplied in shrinkpack form is provided with a decreasing meter marking, allowing the installer to check the length of a run or drop against the remaining contents of the dispenser. With the CABLEBOX dispenser packing system, there is no reel disposal to consider, only a small piece of shrinkwrap. Supplying installers with CABLEBOX dispensers offers the following advantages: - easier installation - savings on cost and effort - opportunity to avoid environmental problems - improved safety. 100 m BY CABLEBOX DISPENSER Re-usable reel DS100 dispenser AFTER THE USE... ECOLOGICAL PACKING 22 COAXIAL CABLE THIS IS A TOTAL Authenticated Packing SOLUTION! respect the environment SINCE 1 9 6 8 23 New shrinkpack disk graphics and security hologram After carrying out investigations we discovered that several imitations of CAVEL coaxial cables exist on the market. Most are very poor-quality clones with identical packing to our products. To prevent our customers from buying fakes and wasting money on low-quality cables, we incorporated the following two solutions into our packing materials. Firstly we developed a new design of shrinkpack disk that enables our dealers and distributors to help customers identify fake cables. The table opposite shows in detail the typical application of the shrinkpack disk colours according to the different cables and lengths. Furthermore we applied a special holographic label bearing the CAVEL trademark on each of the disks, a further safeguard against the falsification of our products. This label is hard to reproduce and incorporating our trademark gives us grounds to mount a legal challenge in the event that it is copied. This label certifies the origin of the product and the high quality of our cables. In addition, all disks bear the 15-year warranty supplied with our cables. mod. We introduce it just to justify our most standard range of coaxial cables - as well as of any other European manufacturer - whose inner conductor size has dia.1,13 mm. With the desinence “+” we stress that this inner conductor size performs a better attenuation value than an inner conductor of dia. 1,00 mm only. (2) The US cables’ scheme by left side is based on sizes given in inches. (3) Typically, all US trunk cables are rigid, due to the Al tube as outer shield, while all CAVEL trunk cables are flexible, due to the film foil + braid outer screen construction.
