LOCATION
Clachtoll is a small crofting township which sits round a
picturesque sandy bay surrounded by the hills of
Assynt. Taking its name from the famous Split Rock
("clach" meaning rock and "toll" meaning hole) on the
headland which formed when a sea arch collapsed,
Clachtoll is in a designated National Scenic Area and
has some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain with
miles of cliffs, inlets and sandy beaches.. Recreational
facilities range from reading a book or taking a walk on
the beach to sea and loch fishing, sailing and kayaking,
hill walking, climbing and watching the abundant bird
and wildlife. Lochinver, 6 miles away has a post office,
petrol, shops, leisure centre, bars and restaurants. The
primary school is nearby at Stoer and here is a bus
service for pupils attending Ullapool High School.
DIRECTIONS
From Ullapool, drive north on the A835, following the
signs to Lochinver. At Ledmore junction, turn left onto
the A837 to Lochinver. Just before Lochinver, turn right
onto the B869 to Clachtoll. Follow the single track road
for around 6 miles passing the turn off to Achmelvich.
As you come down the hill into Clachtoll you will see
the sea and a sandy beach. Continue past the campsite,
pass a turn off to the right. The plot is on the right hand
side and has a small caravan (to be removed) on it.
