Los jardines de Lansdowne es el nombre de un proyecto compuesto por una vivienda de tres dormitorios que ha
reemplazado a un gabinete de medicina con quirófano dentro de una zona preservada. Protegida por dos edificios catalogados, la casa sigue la forma del edificio original, retranqueándose de la calle tras los remanentes de
un viejo muro de ladrillo en el jardín.
El edificio adopta una solución minimalista, con una paleta de materiales que reflejan la simplicidad y claridad
del diseño. La forma rectangular básica se detalla mediante una caja de ladrillo rugoso con sencillos huecos
resueltos con carpintería de aluminio.
La magnífica fábrica de ladrillo complementa el entorno mientras permite que la casa tenga una buena vista
y una presencia contemporánea. La coloración amarillenta del ladrillo ofrece un contraste tonal sencillo con el
ladrillo oscuro de los viejos edificios a cada lado. Internamente, los suelos son de hormigón pulido mientras que
los techos están enlucidos con yeso y pintados de blanco, con la excepción del dormitorio principal en el que se
ha dejado visto el hormigón en paredes y techos. Todas las carpinterías, tales como las de la escalera y panelados de madera del vestíbulo inferior, están realizadas en madera de roble con acabado de aceite blanco.
Del pavimento de la casa emerge un pabellón de una sola planta. Su naturaleza es una estructura de dos plantas que sólo se pone de manifiesto en la entrada, que está situada en torno al muro restaurado. A pesar de las
restricciones de planeamiento el conjunto de la casa y su diseño interior han sido profundamente trabajados
para encajar con los deseos del cliente.
Un vestíbulo luminoso a doble altura crea un acceso teatral que contiene una escalera abierta. Ésta conecta la
planta baja: un aspecto dominante de la casa que es imperceptible desde la calle. El espacio principal se encuentra en la planta baja en la que las puertas de vidrio dan acceso a un patio pavimentado. La cocina, elegantemente diseñada se esconde tras puertas correderas permitiendo que la atención se centre en cualquier punto
de esta zona y que funcione de manera sencilla y minimalista para la relajación y el entretenimiento.
Las tres habitaciones de la planta inferior se cierran con puertas correderas que se abren a patios. Cada uno
de los espacios actúa como un pozo de luz, permitiendo que los grandes niveles de luz natural penetren a los
dormitorios inferiores y dispersen la sensación de ser un sótano cualquiera. El dormitorio principal contiene un
baño propio. Además se dispone un baño generoso para el uso del resto de dormitorios.
